So I came up with a BW good stuff build. Using a plethora of discard spells and spot removal the deck tries to make your opponent run out of steam as quickly as it can and then locks them out with Liliana and Dark Confidant.
It seems and plays like a control deck to me, the only problem I have in testing is finding a suitable win condition. I'm currently just using Brimaz as I he's all I really got, but I could see maybe playing Gideon or another 3-of cheap-ish win condition. But I also feel like I need something that can close out a game fast.
Essentially, the way the deck plays out is trying to get your opponent to dump their hand as quickly as they can and then lock them down with Lily. It makes them run out of steam in the first few turns.
Against combo decks it forces them to go off turn one or two. Against Delver, you essentially need to make them spend their counter spells on your discard effects so you can just use edict and swords on whatever creature they're left with.
The deck is relatively fresh in brew and I'm open to any suggestions.
Some goals for the deck:
Not relying on any graveyard interactions (Cabal Therapy is rarely flashed back)
Not getting blown out by a Chalice on 1
Reliably able to fetch basics and play with them
Not have bad match-ups against combo decks post-board (Sideboard needs improvement)
The 10x 2-for-1 discard on top of 4 Tidehollow Sculler looks a bit much. Consider how many dead top decks you'll have in the long run and how some combo opponents or Miracles will simply live off of the top of their library via Brainstorm/Top. I think having a Misinformation or three would help control topdecks while you're hellbenting your opponent while giving you a little bit of instant-speed grave protection (by plopping dredgers, exhume/reanimate/dread return targets on top of the library.)
Normally I wouldn't advise the card; but if it's going to be run, it makes sense to do it here. I think swapping Gerrard's for a set of just about anything else disrupting will give you a much stronger deck; such as a set of Revokers. It gives you more answers to equips, walkers, and combo while diversifying your hate.
What combo hates most if the diversification of hate because they require multiple kinds* of answers to deal with it. If you're all in on discard they will Brainstorm their way to a win, if you're all in on permanents/critters they'll pyroclasm or Decay, if you're all in on counters they'll bring in swarms or pyros. By having revokers, discard, and maybe misinformation you attack from multiple venues and start denying them the luxury of countering your hate; instead forcing them to mull to an instant-win (which are rare.)
I think my version of this deck would be:
-3 Brimaz, +3 Mirran Crusader
-4 Gerrard's, +4 Revoker
-2 Cabal Therapy, -1 Tidehollow Sculler, +3 Engineered Explosives
-1 Scrubland, -2 Swamp, +1 Kjeldoran Outpost, +1 Bojuka Bog, +1 Karakas
I often rarely go 4 deep in a dual. I'd probably drop a dual, a swamp, and a something for a Bojuka Bog, Karakas, and another utility land. I personally have been trying out Kjeldoran Outpost with some success. It helps against Lilys, bad topdecks, and miracles for the most part; while giving you a perfect out to decks that aren't running Wastes. It could also be a Volrath's Stronghold but I'm finding that there's too much Exile for Volrath's to be useful often.
The EE's MD are a personal touch to many of my decks. I like having the extra outs to Dredge, SFM->Jitte, Angels/Chalice/Countertop, and Empty the Warrens. The random 2-for-1s on myriad fair decks and the protection against Miracles and random combos is helpful. It's also a card that's *REALLY* obvious when to side out (S&T, Reanimator) and rarely gets sided in the first place.
4 Dark Confidant
4 Tidehollow Sculler
3 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
Hand Disruption
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Gerrard's Verdict
4 Thoughtseize
2 Cabal Therapy
Removal
4 Swords to Plowshares
3 Vindicate
2 Diabolic Edict
4 Liliana of the Veil
Lands
4 Marsh Flats
4 Verdant Catacombs
4 Scrubland
2 Plains
4 Swamp
4 Wasteland
3 Null Rod
3 Rest in Peace
2 Zealous Persecution
1 Vindicate
4 Leyline of Sanctity
2 Massacre
