So, besides the fact that the pilot had no idea how to play Magic ( and im fairly certain his opponent Vidianto Wijaya just just drew 4 cards off of brainstorm on camera) what do you guys think of the Death's Shadow deck that was shown at the SCG today?

Yeah I guess drawing 4 cards is the new ruling on brainstorm.
The deck is really strange. Honestly he should have won that match. Seems like a good design with a piloted who might have been trying to be flashy for the camera. Plunge and Death's Shadow are pretty sweet together.

In case I didn't tell you, I don't care about your opinion I just want your facts. And not the facts that make you seem smart. I want the ones that are actual facts.
Reminds me of that deck called "The Cure" in The Source. They're both aggro-combo decks that revolve around manipulating life totals. The Cure makes the opponent gain life, though, while this one makes you lose life.
I've got the hunch it's surprisingly consistent, but I'm still wondering how quickly this deck recovers from Swords to Plowshares on the first Death's Shadow (or anything, really).
Some how this deck wants to have white in so the life loss wont kill you.
phyrexian unlife or Angel's Grace seems like it would be great with death's shadow. Nothings worse then a spoils of the vault killing you or a bolt to the face.
Also Not of this world seems to be Good tech against spot removal.
I think Bob and obliterator can be removed from the list along with Spoils of the vault.
4x Lim-Dûl's Vault
4x Plunge into Darkness
Should be Enough tutoring to make the deck work. The 8x extra cards could be used to better protect the combo: unmask , Not of this World or Angles Grace.
It is some kind of UBG Tempo List and I thought that in that kind of List the new Nivmagus Elemental could fit instead of the Tarmogoyf, then also there would be no need for green anymore and the Deck could run the playset of Wasteland
The numbers aren't set yet, but I think this kind of Deck could work.
It has a normal Tempo shell with a low Mana Curve 8 Cantrips 4 Wasteland and 11 Beater.
Watery Grave is in there so that you can lose Life on Purpose for the Deaths Shadow.
Flusterstorm instead of Spell Pierce because of the Nivmagus Elemental.

My new houserules:
1. Every player saing exiled or battlefield will be kicked out.
2. Not using you mana deals 2 points of manaburn.
3. Combat damage goes over the Stack and you can freely assign it.
4. Lifelinks does stack and doesn't safe you from dying.
5. Tokens are owned bye the one who has made them.
Everyone thinking M10 will not affect a lot of cards or Limited a lot, either has no clue about magic or has never played limited or is getting paid by wizards to do propaganda.

I have been playing a list very similar to that (-1 snuff out, -1 daze, -4 stifle, +1 diabolic edict, +1 dismember, +1 FoW, +3 hymn to tourach) it seems to be working very well. I like using the hymns over the stifles because they can be your hail mary against show and tell decks. Denying them of a land drop is not nearly as devastating as hitting their key cards and that is one of the key match-ups to be concerned with. I also find having just blue and black in the deck makes it a little less awkward and its able to combat combo decks much more efficiently.
The other night I had a guy show and tell emrakul, I ony had a 3/4 nivmangus elemental out, he passes and next turn I play probe, snuff out, snuff out, dismember, then flusterstorm for 5.. Exile all spells on the stack and give him +18/+18 to force him to chump with emrakul lol.
The only match ups I'm struggling with are red burn and goblins which pre-sideboard is very ugly, post sideboard I'd say its about 40/60-50/50 for burn and about the same for goblins. Sometimes a nivmagus elemental or deaths shadow can steal you the game if you get in some early beats, but it seems to be too much of a toss up. First game is almost always a loss in those match ups. Burn sucks pre-board because you have so many dead cards against it (about half the deck becomes nivmagus fuel) and usually pilots with skill will take out your clock leaving you dead in the water. Sometimes a nivmagus elemental can save the day but I hate relying on 3 out of 60 cards to win me the game. Any tips/suggestions??
chill from the sideboard is pretty effective but sometimes I'm afraid too mulligan aggressively for it, I think leyline of sanctity would be pretty useful for the burn match up and could help hose decks that use lots of discard but I haven't tested it yet. If anyone is interested in the full list I will post it.
I thought another possible idea for this deck, perhaps even replacing death's shadow, is to run Jace's phantasm perhaps with glimpse the unthinkable. It could work well within a tempo them, and one is not so reliant on low life in order to drop a fatty.

How many shock lands do you guys run to speed up the death's shadow clock?
I play only 1-2 since it is not allways good to lose life especially when you don't have death's shadow.
@Cogito Ergo sum:
That would be a bad idea. First you need another BAD card (glimpse of the unthinkable) in order to get it good.
Second there are cards like Rest in Peace which make it really bad. Also some Decks use theire graveyard so playing glimpse against them is especially bad.
There are a lot of cards which are good where we have to pay life as an additional cost. Also most opponents deal damage to us. So having a low life is WAY more natural than having 10 or more cards in the graveyard of the opponent.
I think the creature basis from my post is quite good.

If you're going to plan to win with Tainted Strike, then Illusionary Mask combo has a place in the deck. Illusionary Mask has synergy with Death's Shadow because you can play him as a 0/1 dork until he's ready to have sufficient power/toughness. Essentially, in many games it will give him "haste" on the turn that you otherwise WOULD be playing him. The combo with Phyrexian Dreadnought allows another way to win with Tainted Strike quickly.
Spoils of the Vault can randomly kill you too often; I am not a statistician, but I have heard that even when searching for a 4-of, 10% of the time you'll die at 20 life.
Here is a deck I was trying out with Deaths Shadow ! I know is not as optimal and has a lot of problems but it is nice to see something similar catching up !

I'm not one to grind numbers either but I had to drop spoils from my cheerios build because it kept killing me. The card is way too risky, you need safe ways to lose life as oxymoronic that may sound.
Death's Shadow Tempo has been a pet deck of me and my roomate for a while now. Surprisingly our list looks way different than anything posted so far. I know this is an old thread, but this deck is actually really good.
4 Chill in the board to stop burn. I made the mistake of bringing this to a local tournament without Chills in the board. Of course the very first round i played burn..

Not just the Tendo King, the power of the Galactic Leyline surpasses that of the Tempa Emperor, No!, It's magnificent power is even greater than that!

Yeah exactly. Sinkhole is a brutal Tempo card in a deck like this, with Stifle, and Wasteland.
The idea is to keep your opponent off their resources while you drop an under-costed overpowered beater and smash. Usually saving countermagic/ discard for creature removal, as you only run a few threats.
Snuff Out is great sometimes, but could also be Dismember. I'm not sure which would be better.
Gitaxian Probe is awesome, but that slot might want to be Ponder. Its hard to say.
