BW Tokens

Hey everyone, I saw this tokens list that apparently performed well, placing 12th in an open. What does everyone think about BW tokens becoming a premier aggro deck? Also, someone please explain to me why the mindbreak trap is in the sideboard? it confuses me. Anyways, the idea of fetching intangible virtues with enlightened tutors is pretty genius, I'm glad this placed well. Bravo Zachary on a successful brew. So, what is everyone's thoughts on this? I personally love the deck. Tokens in legacy is already awesome.

I'm thinking of playing this deck the next champs in LCL in spain but I'm not sure about it. I'm thinking in put 2 more therapies instead jitte or one virtues.

    Some thoughts?

    Thanks

Mindbreak Trap is one of the best way to beat any Storm deck. Since it costs you 0, it doesn't matter if the spell is blue or not. I run it sideboard in pretty much all my decks.
  • #4
After some testing, I think I found a list I'd be a bit more comfortable with playing.

I have found we don't like getting mana screwed. Best way to avoid mana screw is a land tax, especially since we screw around with wasteland. The land tax is more of a test, though. I like cabal therapy over inquisition, because cabal therapy = max value, and if it's countered we can reuse it (though a split of the two is good). Alternatively, we could go junk for some mana dorks. But mana dorks are boring. Two enlightened tutors is nice in the maindeck, allows more hands to have token producers, allows us to fetch blossoms in response to discard. I might only play two spectral procession and put in a second land tax, just because tokens really doesn't like dead draws or mana screws. Also, 4 cabal therapy is TOTALLY doable. Also, jitte is a must. It deals with thalia, and I we don't deal with Thalia, we might as well lose, because our entire curve is displaced by one.

So, do you think about the sideboard? Do you think that zealous persecution have a spot in there? Seems a good card against decks with thalia like Gw zenith. We could do a sideboard strategy...
  • #6
Jitte is still a must. It comes in handy in other matchups besides this with decks running Thalia and mom. Zealous persecution definitely does sound like a sideboard option, but I'm iffy on it. I feel like there could bE a better answer.

    22 Lands
    1 Arid Mesa
    1 Flooded Strand
    1 Verdant Catacombs

    4 Swords to Plowshares
    4 Raise the Alarm
    4 Intangible Virtue
    3 Vindicate

    3 Cabal Therapy
    2 Spectral Procession
    2 Humility
    1 Umezawa's Jitte
    1 Enlightened Tutor
    1 Batterskull

    15 Sideboard
    3 Retribution of the meek
    3 Disenchant
    3 Zealous persecution
    2 Extirpate
    2 Tormod's crypt
    2 Duress

I think this deck needs more discard since we need to force some spells like bitterblossom, stoneforge or humility.

So in side I put some cards against combo (duress), reanimator/dredge (tormod's, extirpate, meek), zenith (zealous)...

    Thoughts?

Scout out beforehand. If you see lots of control, play tide hallow sculler. If you see lots of aggro decks, blood artist is an awesome choice. AbsOliyrly amazing vs aggro. Feel free to disregard this
Suggestion, as I thought you had two open spots in the mainboard

I think that stoneforg is one of the most important creatures you have, I think he should be a play set, procession and alarm could be cut for more of these, IMHO. They are CA and jitte is nu s with tokens, might as well have 5 ways to it.
  • #12
No. 4 stone forge is too many. Raise the alarm is absolutely amazing in legacy, as it plays around counterspells. Stoneforge, on the other hand, is a lot harder to resolve

Confidant is not for this deck, the same as therapies, you need to resolve a lingering or raise the alarm to play flasckback. For my testings, 3 Inquisition/Thoughtseize and 1 Cabal therapy is the way to go.

On the other side, Bitterblossom and intangible virtue are the best cards in deck, the same as stoneforge. Actually I will play with this list:

Confidant is too good to cut out. It helps draw more and more token creation cards. And with the huge card advantage, it's very difficult for the opponent to come back. And I been finding turn 1 and 2 discard too good to pass up. That said, I can see a spot for Inquisitions.

I'm also not liking Spectral Procession. Three whites is just too hard and too inconsistent. I would much rather run Timely Reinforcement. The life gain has helped offset some of the life loss from bob and bitter.
  • #18
But batterskull exists in your deck. If you hit a batterskull by accident, you're screwed. Therapies and Inquisitions are generally superior. Also, why run bob when you can run diabolic intent? Our creatures are hyper-disposable, and we can grab the cards we need for ANY matchup. Also, I currently agree that spectral procession is subpar. I'd rather run a precinct captain, a sword, or just something that isn't spectral procession in those two spots. Hell. I'd even run liliana since our mana doesn't require 3 white anymore for her. Or, mayhaps elspeth.

I like it. Meekstone seems perfect here unless you can expect to play multiple IV. Bone Splinters comes to mind as well. I wouldn't mind a green splash for abrupt decay and symbiosis. CMC relevant sweepers seem good as all of our dudes are at 0 (save for stoneforge mystic). Powder Keg & Engineered Explosives.
    Find me on Cockatrice.

    Play Legacy and EDH.

    Modern is silly.

Bob itself is too strong. He can win games all by himself, equip jittes if needed, and gains so much card advantage its sickening. My deck doesn't run batterskull, the stoneforge package is too slow for me.

I do like Diabolic Intent though. I'll run that over enlightened tutor. And I like Liliana over Elspeth. Because I find once you establish, having more control is better than just adding more tokens or +3/+3.

I think diabolic intent belongs more in the sideboard. Perhaps our tutorboard could be a diaoblic-board, so we can grab what we need for any matchup (and then we just throw in an extra enlightened tutor for the lands matchup to grab rest in peace). Also, how is the mana on liliana? To me, getting her out seems like an absolute pain.

I've been trying out a singleton kjeldoran outpost. It's nice. Gets me a token if I need it. The land sac is a bit of a problem, but it's good late game when we go into top-deck mode, and can be good mid-game vs the other aggro decks, as the extra body oftentimes wins the game.

    BB1 is Liliana.

I don't like E tutor that much because it provides card disadvantage. And besides, Intent grabs everything and anything, with no card disadvantage. The only problem with intent is that it's sorcery speed. Then again, Demonic Tutor is sorcery speed as well, and that's banned.

Hey guys. Im Zachary Keith. If you have any questions with the deck feel free to ask. Ive also made my own changes to the deck, that ive been play testing with. I have a changed the list a little from what i played at cinci and its been preforming even better. The number 1 problem with the deck is combo. So you have to have a heavy sideboard for combo.

The sideboard im not 100% sure about yet with the leylines. But it really helps against Mono red ,High Tide, and Charbelcher.

Few things ive done. I switched the inquisitions to cabal therapy and took 1 enlightened tutor and 1 jitte out of the main for 2 Thought Seize. I moved the
jitte to the side its to important to not have 2 of if need i cant tell you how many times it has won me games. Taking the enlighten tutor out was probably a good call because thinking back to the times i had it in hand i never really needed it. I also took out the Zealous Persecution because its just a win more card it really doesnt do anything but that. I brought it in 2 rounds against goblins never saw it and still won

Heres my matchups from SCG Cinci:

Goblinsx2 : Got Jitte online and won simple as that. Tokens keep pressure on just as well as the goblins. Sideboard i took humilitys out brought in Zealous.

BUG Delverx2 : I just put pressure on Resolved Humility Swung in hard with intangibles. Spell Pierce and envelop were played in both decks. All you have to do is play around it.

Miracles x2: Most Miracles players i can just beat. Either they have no idea what im doing or are unsure of what to counter.Sideboard wise i brought in disenchants and pithing needle. Round 8 vs Miracles Game 1 i won. Game 2 We went to turns i got Jaced on turn 2 of the 5 turn clock with 4 cards in hand and won the match.

Mono Blue Show and tell: Game 1 Double Humility in hand. Game 2 Baited 2 counterspells out with Inquisitions. Turn 2 enlightened tutor humility to hand sat with it in hand till like turn 12 he show and tells and i play humility and he just scoops.

B/R Delver: Crushed my dreams lol. I Made alot of misplays and i didnt sideboard properly giving him the win. Was my first time on camera nerves were goin and a lack of sleep like most players when attending Magic events.

Cool things to remember with this deck. BATTERSKULL is Amazing!
With Humility on board Batterskull becomes a 5/5 with Vig/Liflink. Not to mention Intangible buffs. Also That 0/0 Germ is always a 1/1. So if you move your batterskull over your token doesnt die.

Part of me wants to officially cut spectral from the deck. It's super clunky, lingering souls is all around better, and the deck usually casts spectral for around 4 mana, which is not the ideal. Also, enlightened tutor is very good in the main. Helps us grab things from the sideboard as well.
