a friend of mine is looking to get in on legacy. his favorite deck is his sliver deck, and he asked me if the deck had a legacy variant. I instantly thought of countersliver. however, the deck has lost some fame in recent trimes, but i've been wondering if we can bring back some shine on the scaly things. here's the list.
thats what we came up with. we've playtested versus merfolk, dredge and uwbg landstill with mixed results. propaganda is not much of a problem once you start fetching basics, but ghostly prison and the like completely shut down the deck. counterbalance is a real pain because everything in the deck costs 2, which is why harmonic sliver comes in. vialed in, it's an uncounterable answer to counterbalance.
any though on how to improve the MD or SB for a broader metagame?
Since you are using blue, you might want to use Brainstorm for quick card drawing, especially if you need another counter spell. Additional blue cards to consider are Negate, Counterspell, and Spell Pierce.
4 Daze may be too much. If the game drags out, it becomes less effective. You should probably try 2-3.
4 Aether Vial may be too much. In a mid-game, drawing another Aether Vial is probably a wasted draw. You probably want to be 2-3.
Perhaps you can try some of these slivers:
Gemhide Sliver: Gives additional mana
Quick Sliver: Useful for a surprise block in combat.
Root Sliver: It costs 4, but it can't be countered, and all your other slivers can't be countered. This would potentially get around Counterbalance.
Because your deck has a lot of CMC 2 Slivers, another card that will hose the deck is Engineered Explosives set at 2.
standstill works in merfolk because they're mono colored.
here, with this many fetches, brainstorm is just plain better.
and trust me.. do NOT maindeck harmonic slivers. i tried that for a while, and it was a bad idea. no matter how many artifacts and such are in your meta.. you'll come into a situation where you want to play a dude, harmonic is in your hand, but the only target for his triggered ability is your own vial. and yes, you MUST target it.

1.) Anyone who thinks cancel is viable should be shot. in the face. with a hammer.
2.) You misunderstand, what I was suggesting was the total exclusion of Spellstutter Sprite, because it just isnt that good anymore.
3.) Understand, Dredge is not really a Magic: The Gathering deck. When a card is playable in it, it doesn't mean it's a tournament playable card. It means it's playable in whatever crazy fantasy world that Dredge operates in.
ya this deck does seem to be pretty much an exact copy off of the countersliver deck. I highly suggest taking out the hibernation sliver...just in the unfortuant event that you will almost guranteed to take out your own goodies. I'd move em to the sideboard. I brought them in when the meta at my local store was heavy artifacts and ravager affinity, hibernation sliver just completly destroyed that deck and i never had to worry about my cards.
-Also you can probably get rid of a land or 2 since your stuff is so cheap
-can get rid of the red in your deck its overall a pretty petty and needless addition
-your sideboard is a little too techy, you really dont need the red, meddling mage, or the jitte (what use is it with crystalline sliver)
-i play a deck very similar to this (minus counterspells mainly) and this deck just hoses creature decks likes its noones business. I think you could look into actually using counterbalance ive been considering the bugger for the longest time and im just half a step from throwing it in since it hoses most fast decks. The only problem slivers runs into is engeneered explosives...but counterbalance revealing a 2cmc card makes life very berable.

If you see someone playing a control deck, the following strategy is considered acceptable: 1) Slowly reach upward 2) Grab your opponent firmly by the throat 3) Squeeze 4) ???? 5) Profit...and a fountain of red Kool Aid!!!
