okay I don't mind throwing some money for Thoughtseize or other good modern cards, but this is budget, was working on a cleric commander deck and I came across edgewalker and dark supplicant
I think this could be really cheap, lots of onslaught clerics, dark supplicant into scion of darkness then clerics who can protect him hand destruction things that could kill him or fatties i can steal, lay down a third cleric, activate dark supplicant on t3 and start swinging in. All of the clerics are super cheap, and I think I can have a back up stratagey with maybe vile deacon have 3 clerics out and have a 5/5 on turn 5,
it seems...ok...like i said im willing to drop some money on good investment cards like lands and maybe containment priest
basic stratagey, hand disrupt, drop dark supplicant, curve out to two other clerics who have a lot of defensive abilities and get scion, have alot of other cards that can protect scion as i swing in with him or go wide and play defensively with Deacon. the deck is built around 1/2 drop clerics to curve out with dark supplicant or edgewalker to lay down a bunch of guys that can support eachother and go wide.
It doesn't need to win a huge pro event, but i would like to spend about 100 bucks and surprise some people at my LGS on legacy night, its a small group i havent seen them play but im pretty sure they aren't running multi thousand dollar decks for a lgs game where they can win 10 packs (though i have learned that you can't underestimate what some people will spend on this game)
But i feel like a deck that doesn't just win on turn 3 isn't good enough for legacy (i used to play hypergenisis online and im used to a turn 3 emrakul so I know that legacy is a CRAZY format)
Another LGS has a proxy legacy night so I could pump it up, i would say my budget is 100-150 its only two colors so i think i can get by with my playsets of godless shrine and concealed courtyard and some basics (I don't have fetches but i would be open to picking them up if the deck performs, but marsh flats are really expensive lol)
I'm VERY new to legacy ive only played a handful of times, I know some of the basics, play around FOW (but really are they going to blow a FOW on a 1/1 cleric and they cant force Supplicant's ability) Black and White can give me plenty of control against creatures, but I need to do something about control, also I need card advantage, what are some cheap cards in BW that can give me card advantage, or shut down their advantage like Alms Collector (also a cleric!)(but cost 4 thats alot)
Some of the clerics im looking at for the curve, most have ways to defend themselves so they can be alive to sac to supplicant, these are all the 1/2 drops so I can focus on the curve, i feel like if something is a 3 drop it better be INSANE in legacy
I wont list them but there are some clerics with shadow who have protection from black or red, maybe sideboard them and play a control game while poking them for 2 unblockable every turn?
like i said except for a few exceptions i don't want to spend alot, almost every card in that list is under a buck, hell under 50c,
Other ideas are blightspeaker fetch mirror entity have a bunch of clerics with edgewalker make them all 5/5's 5 5/5's on turn 5 seems pretty good, just an idea, i want lots of outs and different stratageys, i don't want a one trick pony deck.
Here are the three drops that poked my interest
Blind Zealot Destroys something bygone bishop it's not great, but card advantage...I think I really need a way to draw more, he who draws the most cards wins Doomed Necromancer Get a scion that was killed, or another better cleric, maybe run 1 of him? D'avenant healer edgewalker clerics cost 1 less, seems good, this is the card that made me start thinking about this deck, but I can see builds that don't need him frontline medic in case i have to go wide glowrider stop storm Heliod's Pilgrim Find Angelic DestinyblessingCaptured by the Consulategift of immortalityshielded by faith to put onto scion or another win con Master Apothecary A little hard because it's WWW but if I have 3 clerics which is my goal, thats 6 damage prevented, and can nullify lightning bolt Oriss, Samite Guardian Would have to run 4 of him...but shutting down a turn could be awesome and i love futuresight... preacher this guy is really expensive but he could grab an emrakul or a mairt lange Samnite Elder Protection, but idk about him, like i said 3 mana better be a crazy good card Sanctum Prelate could shut down combo decks...but expensive Sin Collector thoughtseize on a body...interesting
maybe splurge for [card]Liliana, herticle healer/card] I love having at least one planeswalker in my decks, any other BW walkers that could be, like that one shadow assasin
is there something here? please help, I would love to own a legacy deck, one that I built myself, and I've been playing on and off since Oddessy, so I grew up with original border cards and I've always perferred them to the new borders, so i love the idea of being able to play with them (stupid i know, but i like it)
Like i said I'm new to Legacy, I can look at the top decks, but I've found that my LGS metas aren't anywhere near those, what should I look out for in casual legacy play? What do I need, what are the money cards I absolutely need?
I know I just laid out a barebones skeleton, but I would really like some advice for how to build this as i try to build it online and test it before buying it and bringing it to an LGS
Tribal clerics is something that a few people have tried, but with little actual success. Clerics are not the best aggro tribe, as they can't really hold a candle to the pumping power of goblins, slivers, or even merfolk. What's more, they don't have access to the same powerful synergies of the other tribes. Trying to build clerics as midrange or aggro will just force you to eventually fold the the fact that other tribes do those things better.
This leaves you with two options, control or combo. I don't see much in terms of powerful control cards and synergies, but there is a powerful combo at your disposal. It comes from an old archetype appropriately named Life.dec. Basically, Nomads En Kor and Shaman En Kor are interchangeable and can combine with either Daru Spiritualist or Task Force to create a creature with Infinite Toughness. Add in Condemn targeting your own creature, Starlit Sanctum, or any other cards with a similar ability and you have infinite life! From there, your opponent scoops, or you eventually win in a number of ways.
Traditionally, the tribal combo would run green for creature searches like Living Wish, but I can see you want to try and keep it White and Black. That's okay, because this color combination has plenty of options as well. This is a casual list I brewed up a while ago. We can use it as a base line.
The key components are all there, but the land base should be upgraded based on what you already own, plus what your budget allows. Benevolent Bodyguard should be Mother of Runes, and your discard suite can be upgraded as well. I think something like this could work?
What do you think? Ayli is nice because she acts as a combo piece and a main deck answer to jace all in the same card. I think the win conditions could be better, but infinite damage from the guildmage isn't too bad. I'm not positive on the land count either. The old GW lists used to run Aether Vial, which could be strong here. Edgewalker might be a decent replacement, though, as he serves a similar purpose. Grand Abolisher should also be considered.
