I didn't mention Arboria in jest actually. The build I'm kind of working towards, is to shut everything down as fat as possible. from casting spells, untapping lands, to attacking. Then just sit back and kill with Black Vise.
So what Mana dorks do you runs 6jhefz? I might go that route instead of Talismans for the mana.

I'll never tell you the flavor text of Teferi's Imp!!
If you want to stay budget, run Llanowar Elves. If you want to play a technically better dork, Noble Hierarch. Also, I've been toying with Mox Opal (though not really budget friendly, so my apologies) and running Tree of Tales and Darksteel Citadel. I cut the Elvish Spirit Guides completely in favor of some other cards. Something felt off about running all the ramp in this deck and especially with a card like ESG that is such a god awful topdeck (which is something this deck already has a lot of).
I'm beginning to think building our prison is something that could be done on a slower scale than we've been aiming for so that we can incorporate a bit of MD control/hate...it's kind of like this deck has a glass jaw when it comes to building an effective prison--you need to hit the right pieces, on curve, in a decent order or else you give your opponent ample time to whip something up that we can't deal with (ex: LotV, Dark Depths, etc). Being a little more reactive instead of racing to be proactive could go a long way. I've also learned that, while Root Maze does help our tempo against the early game, it isn't nearly as important as the prison pieces and Winter Orb effects. It might be prudent to consider cutting it to go into 2 colors...but I kind of digress as that leads us into a costly mana base.
Also worth mentioning is how good Ghost Quarter is in this deck...especially with Root Maze.
(I'm quietly pondering how this deck would fare as an LD deck using Ice Storm, Winter's Grasp, Plow Under, etc...but quietly...and definitely not in any way related to this thread.........)
Tangle Wire is incredibly important in this deck. It can basically Time Walk you for four turns. Static Orb? Storage Matrix? I'm not really sure there's a good replacement out there. Unless you add blue for Gridlock or something...? I don't recommend that.
Phyrexian Metamorph seems like a good card to test out along with Tsabo's Web. Carpet of Flowers seems more like a sideboard card if you meta has a lot of blue based decks in it. Same goes with Choke in my mind.

Phyrexian Metamorph is a star in this deck. I am 100% sold on how good it is, but I'm not certain how many we should run, because without a copy target, it isn't as good.
Tsabo's Web seems great, but I haven't used it yet. I would rather play:
T1: Root maze
T2: Tsabo's Web
than
T1: Root Maze
T2: ?
Where I'd really want to play a turn 2 Winter Orb, but can't because of not getting that second untapped mana (of course, unless you are running Mox Opal and have 2 Tree of Tales..but that's going to be almost never for turn 2).
And yeah, I echo the sentiment on Carpet of Flowers.
VERY IMPORTANT EDIT: I'm dubbing Mono Green Prison "Jungle Jail", and I urge you all to use this amazingly alliterative name.
My bad. I was thinking of two separate things: cutting Root Maze altogether and running Tsabo's Web. As for non budget? You probably want er duals so you can dip into a combination of colors, fetches to find them, wastelands..not entirely sure. Ensnaring Bridge is incredible and its about $30. Smokestack and Crucible of Worlds...I mean, you basically build stax. lol
This is pretty similar to the Trinity Green deck that some folks were working on awhile ago. I've kept this in my box of legacy decks and get a real kick out of it. It's basically a little less budget due to Wasteland, but I think Ancient Tomb are inexpensive enough to consider.
So, I'm looking to get into Legacy from EDH and this deck hits pretty much all the check boxes for me. It's grindy, it's stompy, it's mean-spirited, and it doesn't cost me my firstborn buying duals alone. I already have a couple Chalice of the Voids and a playset of Wastelands from an early attempt to slowly accumulate a Fish deck (I gave up when I realized having one Force of Will already was NOT going to cushion the blow of needing a playset lol). I have two Ancient Tombs, a Green Sun's Zenith, a Sylvan Library, a Master of the Wild Hunt, and a Thrun, the Last Troll. This deck spoke to me and Bosque's take in particular, since I already have a decent amount of the non-budget cards, seems like a great way to break into the format. I've played with a friend's Reanimator deck, I've proxied up a Fish deck, and I've played a couple games against a limited field of decks, but I'm still really new to all this.
In EDH, I love playing grindy, value-based attrition decks that win by slowly building resources and slowly cutting opponents' off before going over the top with something big and splashy. This seems like a pretty good parallel to that type of deck, it looks powerful, and it looks really fun. Is there anything I should know before getting started?
It's pretty fun, I'd check out the Trinity Green thread for more ideas. Downside, some of this stuff doesn't really build to another deck. Well, ok Wasteland is a solid format staple and is 1/2 the deck cost, and the Stax pieces could let you play other color Stax decks down the road.

Okay, cool. I'll definitely check that out. Most of the expensive cards are cards I already have or are cards that could translate well, so that's not the biggest concern to me. Thanks =)
Mox Opal is awesome if you use Tree of Tales and Darksteel Citadel, it'll turn on turn 1-2 pretty much every time you have it in your opening hand. Chrome Mox sucks in this deck because you're not really running that many colored spells and when you want to play Chrome Mox in the early game, you don't want to dump a spell for it because it might be an important part of the prison. My $0.02.
This deck isn't bad. It will never be a winning deck and you won't take any tournament with it. But if you want to participate in Legacy at a budget, this is an acceptable deck. That said, I wouldn't blow too much money on Mox Opals for this deck or you might as well start building a proper Stax deck.
Has anyone really tested Chrome Mox/Mox Opal for this deck?
Despite what the other guy says, I don't think you have to spam prison artifacts to make the deck work. You basically just need Root Maze, a couple of disruption artifacts, and Lodestones. Replacing 4 lands with Land Grants increases your green count, and Mox Opal, IMO, looks very unlikely to work reliably or early.
Given that you have dead cards anyway (root maze #2, planeswalker #2, Elvish Spirit Guide, land grand in a land heavy hand, etc..) you can easily make good use of Chrome Mox. Also, you only need roughly 17 green cards to make it reliable, and 22 to make it very reliable.
If, for instance you then start with:
4 Elvish Spirit Guide
4 Root Maze
4 Land Grant
8 non artifact threats/control pieces (Suppression field, thalia, DRS, mayor, garruk, mana elves, etc..)
You have enough to support 4 Chrome mox (though.. I'd probably only use 2 or *maybe* 3 as it's exceptionally bad in multiples.)
I used them just fine.
I'm thinking of using Arbor Elf with Squirrel Nest for an additional win condition. It seems like it could work to generate a decent number of tokens for one massive swing. Also, since we are playing mono green, has anyone considered Tangle Golem? Its common so it is in the budget, is an artifact for Ezuri's Brigade's metalcraft, and has affinity for forests. So it could be a free creature to play.

Okay, cool. Thanks! And thanks to the other poster! Despite differing opinions I appreciate the responses! I'll keep testing it and see what feels best.
Edit: I'm also curious what people think on using Land Grant to splash for white. Obviously, it gets a forest (not necessarily basic). Since all of our cards are green and we don't care about non-basics anyways, how much would 4x Temple Garden/Savannah hurt our manabase? It mean it would also absolutely complicate matters for a Chrome Mox 'splash' as well.
I've been looking for a good budget deck for legacy. I've been wanting to make this deck for awhile now http://www.starcitygames.com/events/coverage/deck_tech_no_stax_with_nichola.html. The deck in this thread seems even cheaper. Is the power of this deck one that could win an FNM against some of the Top Tier decks? Is there any video footage of this deck in action? Any help would be great. Thanks.
I like the build. Not 100% on CotV in the deck but I do like the inclusion of Chrome Mox. I still like running Sphere of Resistance. City of Traitors can be a great addition powering out quick starts and the GSZ toolbox approach seems needed in a deck like this. I think the deck could drop Winter Orb and Thorn of Amethyst to make room for 3Sphere and GSZ while still keeping most of the original build like Root Maze and Ezuri's Brigade. A lot of the additions are costly but the core of the build is rather cheap.

The only reason we haven't talked as much about it as we could, is because we're in the budget section. The black or white splashes are both quite good IMO. Black for Bitterblossom, Decay, or similar; White for hate-bears.

Honestly, in my original build I used both Chalice, Root Maze, AND Sphere; that way the chance to drop a nasty hate piece T1 was maximized. I was also very Quad-Lazer about everything at the time. I think Sphere is a little obnoxious to cast through yourself; and so I'd rather make this an Aether Vial deck if I was going to run Spheres. That said, I had a high curve; so maybe that's why I had minor issues with this.
The best hting about Chalice is it blocks all of the non-Liliana removal that people play in legacy that can kill Lodestone.

Hmm, okay. I really love Bitterblossom and already looking into a playset for BW Tokens in Modern. What ratios would you suggest for a BG Prison list?

One card worth mentioning for function and budget-ness (and honestly probably 100% belongs in this deck) is Phyrexian Metamorph. An additional Lodestone Golem, Tangle Wire, Thorn of Amethyst, Sphere of Resistance, Black Vise, etc that isn't affected by either Lodestone Golem or Thorn of Amethyst that can Clone an opposing Marit Lage, Batterskull, Tarmogoyf, etc is insane.
