Hey what's up guys. So, a little introduction to myself. I've been out of Magic for the past 3-4 years. Mostly because in this small town that I live in, I didn't know anyone that played. I played on MTGO for a long time, so I haven't bought new cards in a while. Well recently someone posted on my local social site on facebook that someone was going to be having a local Legacy tournament. I thought it would be a good way to meet some local players, and maybe get back into the game. I have a few different lists that I've been thinking about taking, but I think I've decided to go with this one. It's an extremely casual Kiki-Jiki deck. I know there are better builds, but I'm just looking for something I could have some fun with more casually than competitively. So I'm not really looking to spend a bunch of money, but would rather use cards that I already have. Anyways, on to the list...
Ok, so, I don't have any Splinter Twins or Deceiver Exarchs, so Kiki-Jiki+Intruder Alarm is gonna have to work. I didn't want to build the deck to where I completely depended on the combo to win, so I put it into a Delver shell with the Staff to dig for Kiki. I think my counter magic needs a bit of work. I was thinking about taking out the Thwart and the counterspells and putting in 2 Daze and 1 Mana Leak. Also, I was thinking that maybe something like Invisible Stalker would be better with the swords than the Delvers. Not sure though. Give me your thoughts. Thanks in advance for the comments and help.
Kiki seems stone unplayable in Legacy. There was a Exarch Twin list that did decently at Eternal Weekend, but Exarch is a much better card on its own than Intruder Alarm is, and Splinter Twin is cheaper than Kiki-jiki.
Delver also seems out of place in this shell, as you're only running 17 instant/sorcery cards. That means you have less than a 1 in 3 chance of blind flipping Delver, and with only 4 Brainstorm and 2 Ponder, you lack the filtering cantrips to set up a flip consistently as well.
Here's the Twin list that placed well at Eternal Weekend:
If you want to make a "budget" version of this, here's the changes I'd suggest:
1) Get yourself Splinter Twins. They're at a long-time low right now because of Modern Masters 2015 and can be had for <$10 a pop.
2) Get Pestermites and Exarchs. The Mites are only a quarter each, and you can get a set of Exarchs for about $10.
3) Skip cliques for a fourth copy each of Mite and Exarch. You've already got the two Snappies so you should be fine there.
4) 4x Brainstorm, 4x Ponder, 3x Dig Through Time are necessary for filtering
5) Force of Will is obviously out of budget, so try Spell Pierce in that slot to disrupt opposing combos and protect yours
6) Do your best on lands. Izzet Boilerworks is way too slow and will lead to you getting blown out too often by Wasteland. Try Cascade Bluffs if you can afford them, or stick to stuff like Shivan Reef (super cheap right now because of M15 and Origins reprints).
