Hello everybody ! I haven't played mtg for years because of my studies, but now that I have more time I feel the urge to play again. However I'd like to start with a budget deck for I don't feel like investing too much at once.
Long story short I was headed toward a UR Fish deck :
Polluted Delta because Scalding Tarns are crazy expensive. Same logic with Steam Vents and Volcanic Island
Creatures (23)
- 4 Cursecatchers
- 4 Grim Lavamancers
- 3 Ninja of the Deep Hours
- 3 Nivmagus Elemental
- 2 Gorilla Shaman
- 3 Magus of the Moon
- 4 Spellstutter
I can't help but love ninjas under standstill. Nivmagus Elementals looked like a nice 1cmc creature to put pressure on the opponent and recycle our countered spells. Magus of the moon kills a lot of decks by just being...there (that's why I chose to let go my wastelands in this list, but I may change my mind). Spellstutter look very promising.
I considered Delver of Secrets but I don't have enough instants to trigger it, and I cannot manipulate my library
Stifle is still very efficient against fetchlands and storm based combos. Izzet Charm looks like an interesting card. Of course I'd like to add force of wills, but unless I can proxy them, I cannot afford them right now ^^'
So here I am. I was hoping someone could help me with this half-finished list. I'm catching up on my backwardness but I still have a long way to go ! Hopefully I'll soon attend my first official tournaments with a kickass UR Fish, depending of your help
Anyway thanks for reading... and participating
Best regards
First of all, thanks for your answer !
Standstill is a very satisfying card, especially when you can play some threats at the same time. I've always loved this card <3
1/ Regarding Brainstorms : They are actually not that good in a Fish deck. There is no card I want to find at all cost, every one of them is useful by itself, so I actually prefer quantity over quality (standstill, curiosity, ninja, ...).
2/ Yeah, here I was trying a deck with Magus of the Blood Moon, but I'm not very satisfied by it. It weakens to much my own mana base. I think I'll go back to wastelands indeed, and add a Crucible of Worlds to it.
3/ I'll cut Gorilla Shaman indeed. I used to play in Vintage unpowered before, and it was then called the "mox-eater", but I realize it's totally out of place in Legacy ^^
4/ Lightning Bolt was just here to fill two empty slots, but I don't consider them very important to the deck... although I may be wrong ! I don't know the new metagame really well, but if there are more aggro decks than expected, I will probably bring back a full playset.
5/ Aether Vial is good... but I haven't really felt the need for it so far. I can already play some good threats alongside a standstill, so it may be a little bit overkill to add it. I'll keep it in mind though, if the metagame requires it.
6/ I really wanted to test this little creature, but indeed I think I'll go back to Cloud of Faeries (it is more secure and it has a good synergy with Spellstutter Sprite).
This new version of the deck is less budget (Fow and Wasteland) but I think it is much more stable (and much more classic at the same time ^^). The main problem being : I'm pretty sure I can handle combo and control decks with this, but against aggro I have just nothing but the lavamancer to resist :/
Also, I don't really like Daze combined to Steam Vents. It really costs me a lot to use them, so maybe I should pick something else instead :s
