So after an absence of 10+ years I'm slowly getting back into the game and looking to maybe play legacy again. I didn't sell my entire collection when I quit, but unfortunately sold some pieces left and right which leaves me with a bit of a mish-mash to start from (and a lot of legacy banned cards like tutors) and I don't really know where to go from here. The good news is I kept all my duals though.
and I still have plenty of Brainstorm, counterspells and stuff like that.
I am now trading for polluted delta's and looking to pick up the enemy fetches when they will be re-released.
Say I have 250$ to spend besides the fetches, where to go from here? Would be nice if I could re-use the cards in a modern deck as well, but it's not required.
Duals and Forces are a great start, but it's going to be difficult to get from there into a competitive deck. Especially with the color combination your duals are in, Tarmogoyf is a big player, and those command a price tag of $200 each. Scavenging Ooze makes a decent budget alternative, however.
You could also try to lateral your lands into a different set. You should be able to pretty easily turn some of your Undergrounds and Trops into Tundras and Volcanic Islands. This opens up some slightly cheaper decks like Patriot Stoneblade and UWr Miracles.

Hmm, good suggestions and food for thought, thank you both this is very helpful. BUG control looks very interesting (and very pricey even though some lists don't run Tarmogoyf), but I love control decks. I'm thinking about taking the long term perspective. Liliana seems very likely to be in Modern Masters 2015 (if it happens). Maybe Vendilion and Tarmogoyf as well. So maybe I should wait before trying to pick these up.
So it looks like the early priorities should be Force, Jace and Wasteland. Maybe if I sell some other old stuff first.
Or another option would be to sell/trade some bayous for Forces/Jaces as 4 apparently is overkill?
These are the legacy playables I still have:
4 bayou
4 tropical island
4 underground sea
1 The Abyss
1 Wasteland
2 Force of Will
1 Intuition
2 Sylvan Library
and I still have plenty of Brainstorm, counterspells and stuff like that.

2 more Force of Will should definitely be your priority.
Fetches are a great addition. In addition to Deltas, I'd pick up Flooded Strands. You primarily want fetches that can get blue duals, and these are the cheapest at the moment (and can tide you over until you can get some Verdant Catacombs)
If you want to stay in BUG colors, Deathrite Shaman is a great addition to any deck. There are also some relatively cheap staples right now (<$20 a copy) like Thoughtseize, Stifle, Abrupt Decay, and similar. Baleful Strix, Shardless Agent, and Ancestral Visions are good in specific builds.
On the more expensive side, you've got Tarmogoyf, Wasteland, Liliana of the Veil, Vendilion Clique, and Jace, the Mind Sculptor are all multi-deck staples.

You could also make a really good reanimator deck if you did some selling/trading.
