Hello guys! I've always loved the Legacy format, and recently I've discovered the Magic Online Deck Series Exiler. It's basically a budget (and bad) Death & Taxes, so I thought that could be my entry point into the format. The problem is I don't have lots of money to spend on Magic at once, so I would like to know what are the cards I should invest on first. Honestly, I will never buy the Rishadan Ports or the Wastelands since spending 75 dollars (x8) on a piece of "digital" paper is way out of my budget, so another thing I want to ask is if the deck would become unplayable without that mana denial package because if so, I think it's better I go find another deck. Here is the list from the preconstructed deck
I have around 40 tickets to spend besides buying the precontructed deck. I would start with the 4th Stoneforge, 4 Phyrexian Revokers, 4 Mother of Runes and 4 Thalias, and probably a Sword of Fire and Ice. Other than that, I don't know what else is truly essencial. Mirran Crusader is on my mind, so are Ghost Quarter and Tectonic Edge (poor man's Wasteland). Batterskull is a little expensive, but it's the one card I can see myself paying 30 bucks for.
Easy cuts are the Benevolent Bodyguards and the Bonesplitter. Oblivion Ring and Canonist will be moved to the sideboard to free up MD space.
Without the mana denial lands, I think you're better off aiming at a modern version of the deck. Or you could go for Maverick, which is similar to Death and Taxes, but doesn't focus on the taxes part of the game plan as heavily. It has other expensive lands though (fetch & dual), but I don't know if those are cheaper online than in real life?

Death and taxes without mana denial is just white weenie, so I would not try to turn this into something that it is not. Don't play this with death and taxes in mind, play it with white weenie in mind. Use swarm, equipment, buffs, and hate bears to win. Say no to flickerwisp, mangara, wayfarer, and possibly grunt. Play the mother of runes, stoneforge, and some mirran crusaders if you can find them. Spectral procession would be strong, especially if you played honor of the pure. Try to play some more equipment if you can, like batterskull or sword of feast and famine. Squadron hawk could be strong as well. You already touched on thalia, and I think he is a must.
The white weenie list in this article is probably the direction you want to be going for.
From there you can build into death and taxes over time. I would not try to build a deck while missing some of its most key components though. Just build what you can (white weenie) and work from there.
I was afraid of that, of the fact that without Ports and Wasteland it wouldn't be D&T. Anyway, thanks for the help guys! You helped me save a lot of money
