I went back to River Boa after some more testing. The ability to regenerate is too big to ignore. Against goyf decks he blocks it all day long. The Sentinel is great but the Pit Skulk does allow for a ton of damage to get through. After really tinkering and playing against Goblins, Dredge, Affinity, Burn, Belcher, and a U/R Dreadstill deck I own (These are the only decks I currently have made up and ready to play). I can say Winter Orb belongs in the sideboard. And....
Affinity - flying guys are a pain in the ass. So is Ravager and Champion. Artifact hate is needed. We might be able to pack 3-4 artifact hate cards. Just hit hard and fast and you might be able to go 50-50 if your lucky.
Goblins - Goblins have 1/1, 1/2, and 2/2 guys. we got lots of 2/x guys and and 3/3 and 1/3 guys. They go Cavern, Lackey. We go Vine Dryad and EOT, draw, Nettle Sentinel off ESG, Elephant, go. We really don't fear their mana denial. And River Boa can block all day long. Better than 50-50 if you can finish them quick. If the game drags on the advantage they get from ringleader will do you in. In my mind 55-45
Dredge - 5-95 pre board. Get a Dryad Militant out quick and you slow them down by about 5%. They still dredge a ton and make a crap load of zombies. They will board in Firestorm so have a Bounty or 2 ready at all times if possible. Boarding in some graveyard hate will help but not by much. If you can get the amazing turn on Dryad Militant and Graftdigger's cage out you pretty much shut them down. I'm thinking about upping the cage total to 3 in the board just for this. Still, looking at maybe 15-85 at best for the post board games here.
Belcher - 10-90 in their favor. I played 10 games. killed on turn 1-3 for 9 of those games. Game 10 Belcher couldn't find a win until after I sealed the deal. If you hit faster then them you win. If they go off with a belcher your dead. Board in some artifact hate and board out Skyshroud Elite.
U/R Dreadstill - Delver sucks, Lavamancer sucks, Dreadnuts suck, counters suck. But the boa can connect every turn on this deck if it hits play. Board in the Hidden Gibbons and Rushwood Legate for better clocks. Taking out Vine Dryad and anything else you find useless. If you get a few beaters out. You might be able to race a Delver or 2. But if they get that Dread in play. Enter the scoop phase man. Save ESG for Daze or Spell Pierce payment. Several times that really messes up their board position when they daze you and your tapped and you can still pay the 1.
Burn - Drop as much of you hand on turn one as possible. Turn your dudes sideways. Save your pump to play in response to a targeted burn spell against one of your guys. Switch out Skyshroud Elite for Hidden Gibbons for a 4/4 for 1 instead of a 1/1 for 1. Winter Orb can slow them down but not totally wreck them. It's a race but it could be possible to win.
These are just my ideas. There is just so much I want in the sideboard. I have been thinking about running Phyrexian Revoker to just shut down some cards. Gutteral Response could help against blue counters but I think thats a pipe dream. More artifact/enchantment/graveyard hate would be nice. But adding those reduces the ability to use Gibbons and Legate against blue control and blue combo. I've been thinking about going 3-of everything in the board.
I got the main where I would like it. Until a few more cards come out for stompy. Like a Jotan Grunt for green. That would be insane. But anyways I got a bunch of decks I'm testing and playing right now. Focusing mostly on dredge and belcher right now.

ok cool. my buddy runs a combo deck with food chain and misthollow griffin and any eldrazi's that you can think of that suck and i hate... which is all the expeisve ones lol
do you recommend anything other than the enchantment hate? once i kill food chain... his deck is done. like literally. done lol
and i noticed that he plays noble hierarch and bird of paradise... do you think we could add in gutshot as a sideboard card? it can take care of delver of secrets too... im a new legacy player so im not sure if thats a horrible idea of not lol
but i love this deck a bunch, and im pretty sure that im going to have to mainboard winter orb against his deck as well... locking him out of his dig spells would really give me the upper hand.
Dismember would seem better than Gut Shot. -5/-5 is nothing to sneeze at. Turn that 7/8 goyf into a 2/3 and block with an Elephant. LOL I killed your goyf.
The main deck orb is a personal choice. If you main deck it. Take out 3 of whatever you think would be the least useful card. Then you have 3 extra spots in the board.
Just remember, your 2 best match-ups are Goblins and Threshold style variants. Meta game your sideboard and you might have a decent chance at a top 8. Once you build the deck goldfish it for a few days. You'll get a good feeling for the deck and if you play an event, give us a report. Tell us what works and what doesn't.

ok im getting some pieces tonight and there will be some legacy players at fnm tonight as well so i can see what all they have and see if they have options as to what i should be considering, nothing wrong with getting a little information tonight
mu buddy has been wracking his brain for days trying to figure out this deck, i told him it only takes 9 forests and he said... "is it a bunch of no cost artifacts? lol! and apparently no one at fnm has heard of this deck, so if there is a special legacy tourny anytime soon... that would just be hilarious to play lol
really stoked to get this built. ill let ya know when i can get all these pieces assembled !
Thats pretty awesome. I think the most expensive card in the deck is Winter Orb or Vine Dryad if your buying the cards from a shop. And if your friend can't figure out how a deck with 9 lands can work, my 1 land belcher deck would love to play him.

I looked up the Belcher deck just for kicks and... how does it work? It seems to me that you don't have any draw power to keep the gas going. But I would love to build that deck next, but there is no way in hell I could put lions eye diamond in it. Budget Belcher next lol
Getting paid Friday! Should be 2 weeks at the most that I'll have the deck
1. Im not a legacy player, but i'd like to consider myself a light veteran, about 6 years. Legacy has turn 1 wins, turn 2 wins... so on and so on... We better dump our hands and get stuff out there asap. this is a green agrro deck and its budget. this is what the deck does.
2. Shroud stuff is nice for sure, but we need to be able to pump the creatures that we have if we need to save them or get in for extra damage. So of course hexproof is better than shroud. did you have something in mind you want to add in the deck?
3. Slower in legacy? **** no lol Slower in standard? sometimes depending on the deck. Slower in modern? possibly but unlikely.
Let's see how do I play an opening hand like this one.
Land Grant, Forest, Rogue Elephant, Elvish Spirit Guide for Skyshroud Elite, then I remove Geist for Dryad.
I have a 3/3, a 2/3 and a 1/3 (which is very cool), but now I'm in a topdeck mode, with a free pump spell in hand that I cannot cast and no lands in play.
Another question: isn't it better to play safer and slower with hexproof or shroud creatures?
When you opening hands like this, you can see the deck's power:
T1: Play Forest, Play Militant. Land Grant for second Forest.
T2: Draw Elvish Spirit Guide. Attack w/ Militant, Play Skarrgan with a counter (2/2 for G). Play Forest + ESG, Play Winter Orb.
T3: Draw Groundswell. Play Rogue Elephant, Play Quirion Ranger. Return Forest to Hand w/Ranger and re-play it. Attack, Use Groundswell (+4/+4 with Ranger allowing re-plays of land) with now available mana. You have two mana a turn with one Forest/Ranger, can play whole deck. Opponent is muddled up with Winter Orb and you aren't. You likely win. You can also see why Quirion Ranger is this deck's MVP IMO.
With Skarrgan Pit-Skulk (not played enough in my opinion) you always have a late game, because it's so easy to keep him evasive with this deck.
@Rutherjc19
Belcher has 12 cantrips if your technical about it. Your goal is to either get 7 mana and play and activate Charbelcher. Or get a storm count of about 6 for Empty the Warrens to get 12 1/1 tokens. With one land in the deck the chances of hitting it with belcher before you reveal 10 cards is very slim.
@alus84
You got 3 creatures in play on turn one and you can swing for 6 (9 if you draw a green card which would happen 95% of the time) the next turn. Against a slow control deck or some kinds of midrange decks you might have just won the game. Not always going to happen that way but I have dropped 2 elites and an elephant on turn 1 and my opponent just drew his card and said good game. Thats a really good opening hand.
and no. Its not better to play slower. And always choose Hexproof over Shroud.
@Whitemage57
I keep debating on Winter Orb. I go back and forth between 3 orbs or 3 Nettle Sentinel. But I put the Pit-Skulk back in and he's been fine. I know I posted against it before, but I re-evaluated the deck and noticed I had some bad match-ups during that time I was testing. So I put him back in.

I see, but there's a mistake in your example: on T2 you say "play forest", but you have already played the forest you had in your opening hand and on T2 you have drawn an Elvish Spirit Guide. On T3 you are sacrificing the only forest you have for Elephant. Moretheover, rulings of Elephant say:
4/1/2008: When the ability resolves, you choose whether to sacrifice the creature or perform the other action. If you can’t perform the other action, then you must sacrifice the creature.
So you cannot bounce the forest in response to Elephant entering the battlefield, or you're going to lose Elephant.
I see where you are coming from but as you can see I also had a Land Grant in the opening hand just forgot to show it being used. Fixed now. So the hand still owns
I understand your worry about FoW and Daze. They can counter a creature. Maybe not 3 creatures on turn one, but they can counter 1-2 of them. Most decks that I know of eventually will run out of counters. Counterbalance and Chalice of the Void is a bigger problem.

For artifact and enchantment hate I go with either:
Naturalize: CMC of 2 means our opponent needs 2 CotV to stop both it and most of our dudes.
Sundering Vitae: CMC of 3 plus convoke. Meaning you can tap a creature, a land, Untap the guy with the ranger and bounce the land, play the land, tap the creature again to cast it and have mana open for daze.
Tranquil Domain: kills all Non-aura enchantments. So against enchantment heavy decks it can kill a lot of stuff.
Krosan Grip: 3 CMC and split second makes its awesome. But getting to 3 to hard cast it is hard.
If your talking about straight up hate for any artifact or enchantment I go with Sundering Vitae.
If you have enchantress in your meta, a few copies of Tranquil Domain will help a lot.

For the dredge games post board, your choices are Tormod's Crypt, Surgical Extraction, or Relic of Progenitus. I prefer the crypt. Other's may want to go with something else.
If you do go with Surgical Extraction try to get the Narcomoebas and Bridges with it first. Going for a dredge card can buy you time but taking away token producing ability and free flying 1/1's will help you more in the long run.
As for Experiment One, I'm still debating. Sometimes it is good in my testing. I'm still looking at possibly being in the deck.
And I haven't tried Root Maze against storm combo. Thinking about it. Just haven't gotten around to testing it yet.

almost got all the pieces assembled! i proxied a couple cards just to see how it play tests and i guess the freakin deck hates me cuz i usually cannot kill anyone until turn 4 at the earliest.
and i played a buddy of mine with a standard naya deck and let me tell ya, that freakin t2 o ring will ruin my game... legit lol
i was thinking guys, i know that there is a red guy that you can remove your hand from the game for a free red mana, simian spirit guide,
has there ever been a talk about adding red to the deck? just curious.
i mean with burning tree emissary. if you got lucky with the 2 guides in your hand, remove them both, play the emmisary, then 2 more mana to play with.
im not a legacy player (yet) so im not sure if its worth it. but its just something to think about... or reasonably shut down... whichever lol
I think a homebrew between the 2 that could work.....
I want the deck to win by turn 3-4 frequently. And that might not be capable with a budget deck but I just want it to WIN. ARG lol
I‘m not an expert on stompy, but given the concept of sacrificing card and late-game durability for the most explosive start possible, both of the cards you mentioned seem plausible. Red isn‘t the worst color to splash anyway, because it would give us Kird Ape and Lightning Bolt.
Thing is, does the deck want eight Spirit Guide effects? The diminishing returns on those are huge, because they make lousy topdecks. Drawing multiples in your opening hand can suck as well, depending on the hand. Burning-Tree Emissary (which also fits in monogreen lists) falls in a similar vein: a “free“ grizzly bear is great, but you need something to cast after it if you want to take advantage. As soon as you‘re in topdeck mode, it becomes a “vanilla“ 2/2,
which is fine, but not terribly exciting.
I‘m probably not the best person for this, but I could imagine a red list looking like this:
This is all off the top of my head, with zero testing. This is pretty much how I‘d build the deck with Emissary and Simian Spirit Guide. Dropped Vine Dryad for extra Spirit Guides (pitching a green card to Dryad is generally the same as pitching a Spirit Guide to cast a 2-drop turn one). Battalion is now the two-drop of choice because of amazing synergy with Emissary. I shaved another Forest off the land base because of the extra Spirit Guides, and dropped Rogue Elephant for Kird Ape, which balances the lower land count. All in all, I guess a red list has the potential for even more explosiveness. I would probably prefer a monogreen list though.
i Actually like this deck build. Using red for kird ape is a great idea cuz let me tell ya... i hate that elephant lol
the Bte into Batallion is a great idea as well... definitely a card i've forgotten about.
I also wondered into buying 4 dryad arbors today as well as finding 2 green sun zeniths that im going to throw into the deck as well... or at least try lol The only pieces i need are kird ape and a couple briar shields and then ill be good to go on the testing for the addition of red. As of now im going to see how it looks when i add the following cards ive mentioned... then after i see that it still isn't good enough... ill be adding the red lol
Glad to have a nice response time on this budget legacy thread... its tough to get people over here lol
Sorry for my absence, Elbow tendinitis is a pain to deal with. R/G stompy could work but the mana base should be higher, maybe at about 13 lands. For the red cards to add in I can see Kird ape, SSG, Bolt, and Scab clan mauler.
The good thing about having 8 spirit guides in the deck is you can have more mana one turn one. The bad thing is that top decking them sucks and if you hand is 3 red spirit guides and 4 green creatures you kinda go WTF? Now I do play 8 guides in my belcher deck but it also has more efficient means of using those 8 guides.

i was thinking about the remove cards as well... maybe a mix of 2/3 would suffice. Its free mana so we have to have sime if them, but yes 8 is probably 2 many.
What about Vexing Devils? I know they aren't super budget but if i can get 4 i will certainly try having kird ape and the devils in mainboard and see how it acts.
I cant wait to get rid of the stupid rogue elephant... lol
but who knows, maybe with the addition of red and more lands i may growe to like him more... we will see lol
Vexing Devil is not really that expensive. Ten bucks at most for the most expensive card in a budget deck is not bad.
I'm tinkering around with Ankh of Mishra instead of Winter orb right now. Kinda sucks for your opponent when you play it on turn one off an ESG and a forest. It might work but I'm seeing it as more of a sideboard option against some decks.

wild nacatl anyone? also if goblin guide isn't to expensive it might be worth it(nonbo with winter orb though)? dryad arbor (with zenith) should only be a 1 of since it slows you down.
so here are the versions of this deck i can think of:
the usual
all big guys (more than thy pay for)
pump n evasion.dec
elves
sac land guys and worm
Hi guys, am going to try to post updated deck list later. This is gonna be crazy but I actually just added a playset of bloodbraid elf and let me tell you, I love him lol
I have consistent t3 to t4 wins even when I don't see him. I have a G/R build and I am even thinking about adding blue for shardless agent but haven't thought too much about it just yet.
Now granted this thing is pretty much all over the place, but I promise you it does better in game than it looks.
I played out a couple games by myself just to let people know how I want it to go So I will type that up later. I hope we can make this into something fun but also effective!!!

With one land in the deck the chances of hitting it with belcher before you reveal 10 cards is very slim.
@alus84
@Whitemage57

Just haven't gotten around to testing it yet.

and i played a buddy of mine with a standard naya deck and let me tell ya, that freakin t2 o ring will ruin my game... legit lol
i was thinking guys, i know that there is a red guy that you can remove your hand from the game for a free red mana, simian spirit guide,
has there ever been a talk about adding red to the deck? just curious.
i mean with burning tree emissary. if you got lucky with the 2 guides in your hand, remove them both, play the emmisary, then 2 more mana to play with.
im not a legacy player (yet) so im not sure if its worth it. but its just something to think about... or reasonably shut down... whichever lol
Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.
I want the deck to win by turn 3-4 frequently. And that might not be capable with a budget deck but I just want it to WIN. ARG lol
Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.
i Actually like this deck build.
Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.

Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.
I'm tinkering around with Ankh of Mishra instead of Winter orb right now. Kinda sucks for your opponent when you play it on turn one off an ESG and a forest. It might work but I'm seeing it as more of a sideboard option against some decks.

i had never even heard of Ankh of Mishra but i think that would be a decent card to consider. Extra damage is always good.
so ima try to put a list together just to throw one out there and we can polish it.
cards i like are kird ape, burning-tree emissary, skyshroud elite, the guides as a mixture of both, vexing devils, and idk what else lol
Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.
so here are the versions of this deck i can think of:
the usual
all big guys (more than thy pay for)
pump n evasion.dec
elves
sac land guys and worm
I have consistent t3 to t4 wins even when I don't see him. I have a G/R build and I am even thinking about adding blue for shardless agent but haven't thought too much about it just yet.
Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.
4 Simian Spirit Guide
1 Elvish Spirit Guide
3 Wild Cantor
4 Burning-Tree Emissary

1 Rogue Elephant

Now granted this thing is pretty much all over the place, but I promise you it does better in game than it looks.
I played out a couple games by myself just to let people know how I want it to go So I will type that up later. I hope we can make this into something fun but also effective!!!
