Perish and Massacre would be very solid sideboard options. I saw some1 asking about sideboard choices earlier. With Mono Black, the only real advantage it has to UB, other than being about 1/10th the cost is that it can go off turn one. Id recomend trying to get some Unmask, so that you can attempt to go off turn 1 or early on with some form of protection. Personally, I would run Inquisition of Kozilek over Cabal Therapy as well. Generally you wont have many creatures out, and in my experience, you don't want to necassarily give up your imps easily as if they deal with a reanimated target, those and entomb are your only real enablers.
Why not try a weird reanimator target that no one ever uses? Like Iname, Death Aspect to dump tons of spirits that reanimate them self like Nether Shadow, Bloodghast or Nether Traitor. People won't know what do do when u start to swarm them when your playing reanimator.
on a more discard-heavy build, anyone tried smallpox and/or Hymn? i tried it and it seems to work for the theck.. a bit more consistent, albeit slow...
How's the 12 Swamp working out for you? I know with the Lotus Petal there's a psuedo "land" count of 16, but do you ever feel like 12 Swamp is too little?
Here is what I'm currently running. It's no longer strictly Mono-Black, but the only splash is for SB'ing answers. The creature base is pretty much what I have right now, but the spells are what I run as a constant. any thoughts?
and yeah, what do you guys run against hate? I just play unmask/inquisition every time i'm about to animate, if i know someone's paking hate spells, or needle hate permanents. suggestions are most welcome.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
So. Aside from a set of Griselbrand, how else has the Reanimator deck been updated? I kinda lost track of the expansions and meta starting from M12's last two expansions (Avacyn Restored and Dark Ascension IIRC?).
Anyone ever attempt a B/R version using Faithless Looting? Might be worth looking into. Same as going into Blue for Careful Study, but red gives you a different set of options.

I've considerred it before, A very long time ago reanimator sometimes splashed red for Firestorm, I don't think that it would be able to match the UB version but it could still be really good in the right meta. At the very least, adding red opens up a lot of very good sb options.
Can someone post the most up to date version of a mono black reanimator decklist? With a rough cost? I'm currently trying to put together a fun combo deck and love reanimator just want an affordable version.
Also what made the decision to switch from jin to griselbrand exactly?
the switch from Jin to Griselbrand was mostly due to removal. Griselbrand can still draw you cards in response to removal, like STP. That, plus the fact that it's a 7/7 flyer with lifelink. And, it costs less life to reanimate.
huh.. no updates in a while.. have people given up on this already?
Hi I'm new to the forum, but I've been up and down and all through this thread and it's been really informative and interesting.
I just wanted to post my take on the monoblack entomb deck or reanimator.
I run a four unmasks, a few nightmare-horrors and street wraith along with the gitaxian probe for some cantrippin'. Other than that it's a lot of what we've already seen - Jin for the win.
here is the description that I wrote along with the deck:
I finally assembled this deck and I'm running it now with this side board that is mostly solidified. I would consider swapping a few spells for nev's disk or maybe ratchet bomb to combat some of the threats to the deck. I sort of like the revoker over pithing needle because I can reanimate it, though it is a bit more vulnerable and costs more.
The usual fatties are here. Love jin gitaxias as the go-to, then ink well, and the rest are entirely situational with a faceless butcher that can be hardcast.
This deck contains 8 cantrips and 4 fetchlands (landtrips), which help improve the consistency and thin the deck. In a totally ideal world I would include one more swamp fetch, such as blood stained mire. I don't usually have a problem finding the mana I need to get this thing to go off.
The 4 copies of unmask simply serve as a counter to the 4 of FOW's I see so often. Additionally, it can bin a fatty and help out the combo. I love what is essentially a free duress/thought sieze. Often removing one unmask to play another is the best thing. It can lead to some pretty disgusting turn one plays - plays this deck is capable of with regularity.
So if there are any fans of the Mono Black "Entomb Deck" or Reanimator, I would love to hear any comments on what you think about the deck and side board.
Thanks.
ps - If you couldn't tell I'm a huge fan of TORMENT and the nightmare horrors. I always love being able to play one of my favorite creatures Petradon/Faceless Butcher. I would consider replacing those guys, but for now, simply out of love for that set I run them in the main deck.
Any comments on sideboard are welcome. There's a melange of reanimator and grave yard hate that is really hard to defense.
For a while I was running this w/o a sideboard - "Beat me." - but after a few strong starts and later failures I've wised up.
Sideboard is all Silver Bullets. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite for tribal decks like Goblins and Elves, Angel of Despair against Show and Tell. Iona for combo, Sphinx for Aggro Decks. I've considered Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur over Angel of Despair, but I haven't tested him yet.
In all, this deck boasts a turn 2 kill very consistently. Sometimes, if your lucky with your Griselbrand draws and your hand, turn 1 kill is possible (albeit unanswered).
Decks weakness is Grafdigger's Cage as we have no way to deal with it or counter it in mono-black.

In which match-ups did you side-in the Ratchet Bomb? Do you feel a full playset is necessary in the board?
I am not sure whether a full playset is necessary or not but it worked fine up to now.

I wouldn't consider that as budget...add Force of will and you would have been truly competitive.
Actually, it is what I did. You can see my decklist here http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showpost.php?p=8810370&postcount=874 . IMO, monoblack reanimator is alsocompetitive. I finished in 3rd place in a local legacy tournament with monoblack reanimator deck.

I know it doesn't look budget, but this deck is actually pretty cheap.
After playing Griselbrand and drawing cards, you get Necrotic Ooze, Triskelion, Phyrexian Devourer in your graveyard. From there, reanimate the Ooze and machine gun them to death.
