Hey guys, I am wanting to make a zoo deck, but i do not wana play 200+ dollars just for lands, so I am thinking of a zoo deck that uses good cratures that don't rely on lands. This is what I have so far...
You think so? I am running the m10 dual lands right now. I could take them out and use poor man fetches. I think kird ape would be fine, but idk how often I'd have nacatl at a 3/3 turn 2 or 3.
I don't mean to be 'that guy' but I'm just wondering about Zoo's strategy. Isn't the deck supposed to win really early just through pure aggro (like turn 5 wins?). After that the deck is supposed to drop off in power... so wouldn't running delay fetches severely put the deck behind? Can you afford shock lands?
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.
Yeah zoo is supposed to be pure agrro efficient cost creatures and use removal to get through. I don't wana run poor man fetches because yeah, it will delay my turn 1 drop.
I havn't bought much of the deck, only have bits of peices that i use now in my make-shift naya aggro deck.
But my friend and I came up with this list. I havn't play tested it yet, just wanted to get some opinions..
The reason Zoo plays Noble is to ramp to 3 to play Knight of the Reliquary, and use the exalted trigger to win goyf wars. Youre not doing either so there is no reason to play Birds of Paradise. Zoo plays Wild Nacatl because its a 3/3 when it attacks on turn 2, while you will have difficulty doing so before turn 4. Also, regarding Figure of destiny, I just don't see you having the colored mana requirements to run him well in this deck either.
Honestly, if you don't have the cards, Zoo just cannot be good on a budget. Its so much better to play a deck that is good and naturally cheap than to play a deck that is good and expensive and then try to make it cheap. If you want to play a creature deck with burn try something like Boros or Mono Red which can be done on a budget.
I want a naya colored agrro deck. Zoo, yeah, not gona pay 400 dollars for a set of goyfs and the fetches/duals i need, i'd rather just get my deck The Gate and Affinity up to snuff.
Any suggestions and not just hate?
Does the list look good for a Green/white/red agrro deck? That's all I am looking for guys. If this thread is in the wrong place i will happily move it, just let me know.
I concur, by cutting a color you can really save, especially on the land base. I'm not a zoo expert, but what does zoo use white for primarily? I'm thinking removal, some effecient creatures that benefit from a three color manabase, and the power of Knight of the Reliquary. Unfortunately, while knights are relatively cheap, they require hundreds in utility cards to make them effective. If you want them to be huge you need lots of fetches, and if you want to really abuse them you need lots of utility land targets, like Karakas, Horizon Canopy, etc. Since you don't want to shell out for those, I'd cut the white entirely and replace the lack of removal with more burn.
Grim Lavamancers seem like a must here.
Since you're not running as many fetches and consequently should end up with more lands in play due to higher odds of drawing them, maybe higher casting costs are acceptable? If so, Bloodbraid Elf seems like a great pick.
You can Build this as RG Aggro, RW Aggro, or GW(though that will probably evolve towards maverick over time), all of which will save hundreds on your mana base. Either way, you need to be considering your matchups against other decks in the format. Zoo works because it can race things, can end the game in 5 turns, maybe even less. Are you playing against tier 1 decks? Then you need to be able to race at about that speed, otherwise you need to have a strategy of disruption that allows you to control the board until you can win at a slower pace. That probably means more burn, bigger guys, and a set of utility cards that can shut down combo decks over the first couple of turns somehow. If you can't mesh that into a list, then think about how to make it faster to race them instead.
Have you considered goblin guide? It's no nacatl, but it's fast.
This. If you want budget zoo then you need to run guide as well as Steppe lynx. Both are cheap creatures that potentially win games alone. Skinshifter is great as well. if you want something similar to nactl that doesn't get bigger from lands than you could run Nimble mongoose. Following that same idea werebear may be viable, not sure.

I recently finished 3rd in a 40+ person tournament with Goyf-less Zoo. So not having Goyf isn't a very big deal.
However based on the deck list you're posting, if you're looking to play a midrange aggro deck, it would seem like GW Maverick would be a better place for you to start. They don't run Goyf and you wouldn't necessary need a lot of expensive lands. You could probably get away with 1 or 2 wastelands because of Knight of the Reliquary.
Zoo wins games because it's faster than everyone else. And then when it's creatures can't get through anymore it burns them out. If you're really set on playing Naya but can't play Wild Nacatl because of lands, then I'd strongly suggest going the goblin guide route, and going heavy with burn spells.
Also Price of Progress wins games against unfair decks, don't forget to have it somewhere in your 75.

Even with those three fetchers the deck only costs about $100, without them it costs like $50 and pretty much all of that is Knight of the Reliquary.

What do you guys think? cut something and just run a kird pae or loam lion? I am afraid my wild nacatl wouldn't be a 3/3 till turn 3...

Am i naming this wrong then?

Duals are too improtant in Legacy competitive play, and Tarmogoyf
EDH: Xenagos, God of Revels.
