Hello Legacy community. I play in multiple formats and I've been playing Legacy for years, getting into many different archetypes. Although recently over the past 3-4 months I've been getting right into Modern because it is out of it's stale meta. It is also more commonly found in my area with my LGS being new and filled with new players coming in each week making it easier for them to join it. So I thought I might start trading away my Legacy staples which "I don't think" I'll use again.
For example, Griselbrands, Show and Tells, Goblins, etc. I don't think I'd use them because I don't see myself affording or using Blue Duals any time in the future. Only deck I would want blue duals for would be Reanimator but I can't afford them. I would still keep cards ready for Legacy decks I already have and enjoy. These would include Elves!, Merfolk, Burn, and Death & Taxes.
Should I get rid of these kinds of staples? Do you collect "every" staple of a Legacy deck you can? Or do you just collect what you "need"?

Go get a coin and flip it. If it lands on heads, keep your cards. Sell them if it lands tails. As soon as the coin is in the air, think about which side you hope it lands on. Disregard the outcome of the flip since you now have your answer and an excuse. It sounds dumb, but I find it to be highly effective for determining what you really want.
You never know what you will want to play a year from now. You also never know what they will print in the future that might combine well with the cards you aren't playing. It's better to keep the cards if you can. Buying them back later at higher prices is a very terrible thing to have to do. I've done it once, and won't be doing it again.

I've used/advocated this trick for a long time. If you truly don't care, you get a decision, and if you do care you know what you really want.
Great sort of "gambler's" trick.
EDIT: @ the OP
IMO; sell high, buy low. If you can get out of them what you put into them, go for it if you really want to get rid of them. I sometimes sell the 4th copy when they're high to pay off the 'investment' in the other three if I don't need #4. Liliana is over double what I bought them for, so selling one now made sense and paid half of them off, The other three can go as low as $20 and still break even now; meaning I'm in quite good shape if they reprint, and if they don't.. I'm fantastic
Only sell if you're NEVER gonna use them.
You may always find a use in casual decks with friends, so I wouldn't just sell them unless you need money for a hot date.
BTW;
Brisbane?
I'm over here in Perth. Hows the whole Legacy/Modern thing in Brissie?

One store does it over here. Had bad experience there so don't go there anymore. Even so, it's out of my way to even get to the shop.

Shame.
The legacy side of things in Perth is hard to make happen, plenty of nights get cancelled and so far there's not many planned.
Standard seems to be the only format supported on a weekly basis over here (sigh)
I was in the same boat, but I chose to sell. There were other things in my life that I wanted to do, and my cards allowed me to do them, in your case if there are other decks you want to play, and those unused cards allow you to start working towards them then do it. Sure card prices might rise, but they may also drop, the one undeniable fact of this moment is that they are not doing you any good if you're not using them. Also imagine how you would feel if you traded away your cards and tomorrow they would double in price. Then imagine if they were to drop in price later, or if the new cards you're trading for doubled in price, and make your decision with help of those feelings. I tell myself: you can't reach for what you want unless you let go of the things you don't want. Best of luck with your choice.

I consider Legacy staples to be a thing you are happy to have and which will, probably stay steady value.
That said, I feel guilty keeping my few comander Dual lands out of the wild Legacy circulation.
So as you probably knew, there is no easy answer. I would say keep, but it's up to you.
Good choice to keep elves though
