I am honestly surprised there is no thread for this, especially since there hasn't been any coverage for Legacy in so long for events this large.
That first match with Strub vs. Jacob was tooth grinding. I can't stand Miracles, but how bad Strub played made me feel slightly bad for him, but so frustrating. I could tell he was scared because he was on cam, but after awhile you loosen up and play right. Maybe he was a noob to Legacy? I don't know.
I was wincing as the Imperial Painter player nearly threw away that game with the Welder + Ensnaring Bridge. There were a lot of small mis-sequenced plays in that game that nearly added up to a loss.
The Lands player in R9 made some very strange plays as well. It kept looking like he would start to play around one thing and then would just walk right into it on the subsequent turn. It felt rough to me, but I could see there being reasons for the plays I wasn't on board for. The full landless lock in G3 was beautiful -- I wonder though if he needed to present the Taiga in that game. It gave Boswell the potential out of tempoing the game with Submerge on Marit Lage when he topdecked that final land (this of course would have required Boswell to have it, and I suspect that he didn't board it in).
In related news: Lands stands alone at 9-0 at the end of Day 1.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

As a result of them gutting Legacy coverage, I no longer pay attention to SCG. Not out of spite or anything, they just don't pop into my head anymore. As I predicted a few months ago, I no longer even remember when they're having an event. For me, at least, that explains the "no thread for this." Thanks for the reminder, krimson.
I finished watching all the rounds from yesterday and noticed a lot of players doing wrong things with their decks. Were the players always this bad, or is it that there are just players just new to this format and/or deck?
Was late the the replay stream last night. Anyone have any news about the stoneblade deck that was running Nahiri? I'm happy that is getting some love along with the Goblin.
It was a UWR Stoneblade deck piloted by Kevin Jones and I believe he is no longer in top eight contention. Someone correct if I'm wrong though, please.
And BUG Delver took down the event. I believe it was Grixis Delver, Elves, Lands, Miracles, Grixis Control, UWR Stoneblade, D&T, and I can't remember the last deck in the top eight.
And it was Infect for the eighth deck. I also fixed deck titles because it was Grixis colors for Delver and Control. Not BUG.

Nahiri, the Lithomancer looks dandy against every Miracles pilot who boards out Force of Will (and boards in 1 Keranos, God of Storms). At this point, the CounterTop almost can't counter her, so it's Spell Pierce, swinging into her, or bust. Elspeth, Knight-Errant can't pull off the job as well because no Miracles pilot is boarding out the also-4-cmc Jace, the Mind Sculptor in those match-ups.
