Hey y'all. So my girlfriend has decided she wants to get legacy staples to have a nice little nest egg. With this I am getting back into legacy from modern. So what deck has the mostt staples in it? I play everything across the map but I love combo and control. I'm looking at spending about $2000 and would like to have most/all of the deck done and fullly carded out. Thanks y'all
I think you should look at what kind of deck you're wanting. Are you wanting to play a control deck (miracles is really one of the few option I can think of for "traditional" control) or are you looking for a combo deck? If so are you looking for a combo like storm, elves, reanimator, show and tell?
If you're looking to get the cards that fit into the widest variety of decks a blue base is probably best. Ponder, brainstorm, fetches, and ABUR blue duals all fit into a ton of decks.
there are 4 decks in legacy that all revolve around 4 cards
Type 1: Lions eye diamond decks or Cabal Decks Ex: ANT, Dredge other combo decks
Type 2: Natural order decks Ex: Elfs Bant
Type 3: Delver/aggro decks Ex: Bug delver, Rug delver, UR delver
Type 4: Stoneblade/controll: any deck with stone forge mystic and batter skull.
You kind of have to pick one of these 4 then you can build any deck in the group for a reasonable price in the future in that same group.
the only reason you would not buy FoW's is if you are playing ANT
I recommend you buying 4 Force of wills first they are only going to go up.

With that goal in mind and price point to work with, there are a whole lot of options to consider. I'd recommend writing everything out, pro and con, and taking some time to think about what the wisest purchase will be. I won't pretend to give exhaustive advice, but I do have one idea.
Miracles has a lot of staples and not a whole lot of cost beyond them.
3 Tundra and 2 Volcanic Island is the mana base you'd be working with. That puts you solidly into the control spectrum. No tier combo deck runs Tundras, though Volcanic Island is common.
After that, you need the fetches (which are quite cheap now), 3 Jace, 4 Force of Will, and a couple of cards that hurt a little: like Sensei's Divining Top, some Counterbalances, a few Flusterstorms and Vendilion Cliques.
All that should add up to less than $2,000. You could put whatever's left into something other than Magic cards, or sink it into other staples like other blue duals, Wasteland, Show and Tell, Lion's Eye Diamond, or whatever.
Inside the control archetypes Stoneblade variants have the highest amount of staples, followed by Landstill variants. but what you should ask yourself is, what color do you want to play? There are different staples for each color and getting them all is quite a lot of money, I suggest choosing a few colors and sticking to themuntil you have the staples and only then decide whether to start collecting staples of another color.
Modern: Jund Legacy: RUG Delver EDH: Captain Sisay
