Is this card playable in today's legacy metagame? If it is, in what shells is it playable, D&T,Maverick,Bant, something else?
D&T plays Cataclysm in it's sideboard and stoneblade sometimes plays Humility, these two cards make me feel that Armageddon is playable in legacy today. The only downside I can think of is that as a cmc 4 card, it is a bit slow.
It's definitely playable, but I think Cataclysm is marginally better in any list that wants it. Getting to hose swarm/tribal decks, Enchentress, and planeswalkers when Armageddon doesn't makes it more useful and they cost almost the same. The only situation when you want Armageddon instead is when you have multiple fliers and your opponent has a True-Name Nemesis with no equipment already attached. I wouldn't fault anyone for playing it because it's still game-breaking against Miracles and Lands (the decks that you need mass LD against the most) but I would basically always play Cataclysm instead. Sometimes you'll lose to Lands after a Cataclysm because you let them keep a Maze for your one creature, but usually this isn't the case.

I'm always looking for foil Madcap Skills and Ghitu Fire-Eater, [trade thread link forthcoming]
The issue is both Armageddon and Cataclysm are 4cmc, and Cataclysm just does more. Armageddon kills all lands, which is only a good thing if you are already ahead. If you are behind it is pointless, and if you are at parity it is a gamble.
Cataclysm, on the other hand, brings the board back to parity, or at least near parity, no matter what the state. It has a better potential for saving you when you are behind, and can edge the game in your favor when you are in parity. It does less for you when you are already winning, but if you're winning anyway you can just leave it in the sideboard.
Armageddon is playable, but cataclysm does more at the same CMC, and is useful in more situations. As such, IMO Cata is just a better card.
I think Armageddon is better against Miracles or Lands, or something similar, where cutting off the entirety of the mana is paramount to keeping them from just Loaming/Toping the next turn and turn the play against you. You're more likely to have a >= board presence in those MUs as well (either because they don't have anything, or because they didn't find the Terminus/Pfire-spam in time.) 'Geddon is a mildly better choice if you're only splashing white as well.
That said, Cataclysm should be better against anything else and arguably even those decks if they landed Jace/Lily but no protection. My thinking with Cat is that against miracles, the difference of them having no mana and 1 mana when they have Top in play is gigantic; and Cataclysm leaves Countertop online; while Geddon may leave them broken for a few turns.
If Cataclysm is overall better in most situations/match-ups than armageddon, is there any shells besides D&T that could play it? Or do other decks have better options?
STATISTICS.
All of these "Let's eliminate bad cards" crusades are simply ignorant. And when they start to devolve into "WotC is conspiring to give us crappy cards," they just become embarrassing. MATH is conspiring to give you crappy cards.
