Welcome everybody to the SCG: Portland 2014 thread!
Chris Fox is a bad player and deserved to lose to to Gerry. He should have waited to cast Ensnaring Bridge to see if he even needed it there, or not in game 1. In game 2, he should have casted it then welded it into play.
Tell us what you really think, lol. I missed it, was it painfully bad misplays or ignorance? What was the match-up?
He was mono-R Painter's Servant against Gerry Thompson playing Sneak and Show. I believe Gerry was on the play, but by turn 3, Fox had no pressure on the board, sees 2 Scalding Tarn and a Volcanic Island and casts Ensnaring Bridge, losing it to a Spell Pierce and lets it get countered when he had a REB and Pyroblast in hand to counter with a mountain untapped. He(Fox) later has Painter in hand with the 3 counters, clocks on the board, decides against casting Painter to call blue so he can stop Thompson from casting his only out: Sneak Attack. Thompson ends up with enough time to find Sneak and beats to Fox's head with Emmy and Griselbrand. In game two, Fox should have realized that Thompson runs Sneak. Fox has Goblin Welder turn 1, has Ensnaring Bridge in hand. He had Lotus Petal in play along with Top and decides not to cast Ensnaring Bridge. All he had to was cast Bridge and he would have won the game.
So... Joe Pynch just cast a Supreme Verdict with 1 white mana, on camera to boot and no one noticed.
Did everyone think it was UU and not WW?
Pretty sure he used DRS activation for the mana needed.
I really need to learn how to post on this site o.0

Btw I wish they would stop showing Feline Longmore every weekend with High Tide.
I think for the last 8 weeks or so she was always featured at least once.
1. Her deck is boring and I can't take hearing about how good and fast she is with the deck (supposedly)
2. Even if she is fast, I think she is a very average player.
I don't think it's so much that she's an average player as High Tide is an average/below average deck, though we all have our pets I suppose. I never see her making unreasonable decisions in her play, which leads me to think it has more to do with the deck than the pilot. The number of events she attends and her lack of real significance in the player's race is a testament to just how average High Tide is in the current meta. Were she playing a better deck, I believe you'd see her with greater success at these events.
I agree though that there's not much interesting going on in watching that deck, regardless of how good the pilot may be. And yes, she is featured quite frequently.

For you to say this make me (and I would wager many experienced Legacy players) question if you know what you're talking about. The deck being boring is subjective and <your opinion on it is worthless>. That you don't like hearing about her speed with the deck (which is impressive if you know much of anything about the deck) is equally valueless. You offer your second point without any sort of evidence or information to back it up. Feline has won Legacy tournaments with 200-400 players (including the most recent SCG Seattle), top 8'ed several times, and top 16'ed more beyond that. I would say that's sufficient evidence to support her being quite a good player. <But if that only makes her an average player... what does that make you?>
This is getting too personal. There's no need to dismiss others' opinions so harshly, nor any need to throw around veiled jabs at others' play skill. Warning issued for trolling.

The notion that someone's opinion is "worthless" is a favorite buzz phrase to toss around on the internet, when in this instance it couldn't be further from the truth. We're talking about a broadcast that is for entertainment/advertising purposes. The entire point of even watching it is to be entertained. If he's not entertained, that's a valid opinion to express, as is an opinion as to the repetitive, incessant nature of the commentary regarding how well she plays the deck, despite not having much recent success with it when compared to the number of events she attends.
All of that being said, opinions are indeed subjective. However, subjectivity and worthlessness are not equivalents. Watching her play it bores me to tears as well, as do most Sensei's Divining Top decks (Imperial Painter gets a pass. ) It doesn't help that the majority of her games come down to her (a) not hitting the combo (b) playing Counterbalance / SDT and shuffling a lot without really getting very far, or (c) being raced out of the match before doing anything significant.
The SCG Open win you referenced was in 2012 and was hardly the most recent SCG event in Seattle. In 2014, she's made 1 Top 16 and 1 Top 8 with High Tide. I couldn't tell you the exact number of events she's attended, but those are her only notable finishes. As I expressed earlier, I do not believe that her finishes are a reflection of her skill as a player, but of the fact that High Tide is not a particularly impressive deck. Were she playing any of the better decks in the format, combo or otherwise, I believe she'd be a more significant factor in the player's championship.

... as if that is proof of anything when you attend like every SCG event, every week there are some players in the top 8 making bad plays but end up in the top 8. You don't have to be Reid Duke to win a SCG event.
So, please enlighten us... how many SCG opens have you won? Or top 8'ed? Maybe a local PTQ or something? Hmm? *crickets*
I've seen SCG opens referred to as big FNM's... scrub conventions... and many other negative things, but you simply don't win a 9-round-swiss-plus-top-8 event just by being lucky, whether it's SCG, TCG Platinum, GPQ or PTQ. And anyone who says differently that doesn't have a few of these wins under their belt is full of *****.
Okay, everyone, I think it's time to step back and take a breather. Tempers are flaring and things are getting personal, so let's get this thread calmed down and back on topic.
I have to admit that was my first time catching Chapin live. I gotta say the man is hilarious. As someone else mentioned, I think its great to toss him in once in a while but I think I could get tired of his humor if it was on weekly. Much enjoyed the old school knowledge he was dishing out too.
Also that was an insane amount of combo decks showcased throughout the day. I only recall one delver deck throughout the whole day.

I totally agree with this. Watching the stream in its entirety over a week or so, I get kinda tired with Chapin.
But if I'm just watching a match or two that he is commentating in isolation, he is so hysterical and entertaining to listen too.
From the Richmond gp, this match Dickman's commentating is awesome.
While I do like his thoughts on the matches, I wish he would stay on topic a bit more, when half a match goes on and they are talking about cards form 1996 that have no relevance to the game it does it a bit annoying.
I don't mind seeing Feline. Much in the same way I don't mind if they show Gerry T any given week or my Legacy friends when SCG is on the East Coast. Show me nice archetype matchups. If High Tide isn't your thing, I'll accept that -- but how many pilots can honestly run that at any given event with a strong outcome? She's good, she plays a deck that not too many people see, I'm happy. On the other hand, I get annoyed at the same 4 archetypes + 1 "SCG wants you to buy the cards from this deck" being shown. I like seeing diversity in the meta.
