I recently started playing at a new shop, and I've noticed that the meta is not very diverse. There are multiple jund and shardless bug players, one canadian thresh player, and one patriot stoneblade player, with dark maverick, ur burn and affinity showing up sporadically. I've been going to events with a few friends and mostly loaning them decks, and am trying to think of the best options against this. I have been having success with MUD, but the other decks aren't doing so hot.
Here's what we have available:
MUD (Doing well.)
Merfolk (missing true name nemisis)
Miracles (incomplete list, probably bad in this meta)
Pox (went 2-2, I don't think its great here due to cascade)
Burn (surprisingly good. my friend went 2-2 with multiple game losing misplays)
Team Italia (I'm not sure how good this is against the meta)
LED dredge (can be converted to manaless)
finally, a custom turn 1 storm combo deck.
Incomplete decks that can be finished:
Death and Taxes
Second Sunrise Eggs (I think the legacy version can be made pretty fast, though deathrite might be a problem)
Reanimator (too many deathrites to be pheasible I think)
Nic Fit
I'm also considering building Stacks.
I may also be able to bug a friend to borrow high tide.
I'm wondering which of these you guys think would get me the most bang for my buck in terms of tournament standings. I've been thinking of focusing on fast combo decks due to the speed of the meta, but I'm a little worried about thoughtseize. To put it in perspective. I have played seven matches at this store so far. I have been hit with turn one thoughtseize in sixgames. That's over a third of the games played.
Besides the burn matchup, blood moon is amazing against all those decks. Jund and shardless bug actually just lose the game if you kill their DRS and resolve a Moon. I would recommend Imperial painter.
MUD honestly doesn't sound too bad either though.
Reanimator would probably do well too. DRS isnt that bad to deal with.
I recommend Storm or Elves, both of which have favorable matchups against Jund and Shardless.

Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.
Basically you want to be playing decks that punish greedy mana bases with no basics. Blood Moon, Back to Basics, Veteran Explorer, Price of Progress are all different (mutually exclusive) options. I think that since you're battling fair decks almost exclusively, Nic Fit is where you want to be, because it goes over the top of other fair decks super hard. You can build BUG, Junk, or Jund variants of this deck and you can give it a combo finish in any color combination (Deadeye Navigator in BUG, Thespian Depths in Junk backed up by Knight of the Reliquary, Scapeshift in Jund), the deck plays Birthing Pod, Burning Wish, or Living Wish sometimes and can be customized with any number of 1-ofs as a result, and it's just a blast to play overall. The only issue is that it revolves around Cabal Therapy and that is probably the hardest card in Legacy to play perfectly.
I would echo the Imperial Painter comment as Blood Moon should be incredible. You could also go the Sneak and Show route with a 4-of Blood Moon in the sideboard.
*gets back from buying more blood moons* Thanks for the advice guys, and sorry I didn't get back to this thread, I never saw a notification for replies on it. I wish I could do imperial painter. UR painter is one of my favorite decks in legacy, but I'm not buying volcanics or recruiters right now. We'll work on getting Nic Fit fixed up, and I'll tweak the side board for the burn deck. Hopefully if we do well, we'll start to see some more diversity in the meta. I'd love to see some miracles.
