Hey guys, i'm currently saving up and i'm just about on the cusp of being able to buy into legacy. I know i want to play stoneblade in some form, and after some playtesting i've settled on UWR Stoneblade. Here's the list i've been playtesting:
I haven't fully figured out what my sideboard is going to be but i know it will have 3 or 4 pyroblasts which was a big motivation for splashing red in this deck. This will be my first foray into competitive legacy, so all the knowledge on this board would be greatly appreciated. Any feedback positive or negative is welcome. Thank you!!
UWR stoneblade control is awkward when built like this. I have tested with various UWr lists like this a lot. Its kind of stuck inbetween a tempo deck and a control deck, but can't really do either well. If you want a more dedicated control deck, you need to drop the wasteland and fit in some board wipes and possibly Blood moon/back to basics somewhere. If you want to be a tempo deck, Owens list is way to go.
The Blade Control thread on the source has been talking about the red splash lately lately and might be helpful:
Hmm i understand that this deck is sorta on the line between tempo and control. But the reason its in there is because i have a combo heavy meta, which makes red elemental blast a very attractive sideboard card for me. Should i just 1 run volcanic island maindeck and the pyroblasts SB?
Red elemental blast is very good. I thought your original land base wasn't bad. You can be a UW deck pre-board if you want, and then just splash the red for SB stuff. REB is nice against delver decks too, but less so if your only red sources are non-basic which is why the basic mountain is kind of nice to have. I would want less 1 less island, for a Karakas and then I might as well run Blood Moon or back to basics, since some decks lose when you cast those cards.
I would personally, play something like this list below, that said, UWr stoneblade is not bad, but I think Esper makes a better control deck and Owen Turtenwald's UWR delver deck makes a better tempo deck.
