I played in my first legacy tournament today with RiP Helm, I got crushed. Its clear I have a lot to learn about my deck and the format in general. But what better way than to keep at it. Here is a rundown of how the day went. Hope you enjoy.
Round one was against goblins. Game one, aside from being demolished by a flood of the little green guys I tried to misdirect a cycled gempalm (not my brightest moment). Game two I keep a hand of two mystic gate and a duel. Not seeing a waste land in game one I assumed this was ok…I played the duel, passed, he played wasteland into vial, passed. I played mystic gate passed and he wasted the duel and I didn’t draw another land before dying. 0-2
Round two was against ANT. I won game one with an early counterbalance. Game two lost on turn two the usual way-tendrils. Game three I didn’t anticipate empty the warrens, sided out all creature hate, and lost AGAIN to a swarm of goblins! 1-2
Round 3 Bye (free win lol)
Round 4 was against POX. Here I won game one with a top deck helm. Game two I punted bad by tutoring for an explosives and then Fetching for my third color WITH EXPLOSIVES STILL ON TOP OF MY DECK . Game three I put up a good fight but just got picked apart.
Why did I tell you all about this? Because I think it’s funny how poorly the day went. But you know what, I still had fun. I learned a lot about how to play my deck and how it interacts against different arch types. I don’t expect to be holding up any SCG open trophies anytime soon but I’ll keep at it.
On a side note: my buddy played Omni-Tell. He had the best punt of them all, He was against “death and taxes”. Being new to Omni-tell and unfamiliar with D&T he cast enter the infinite while his opponent had a spirit of the labyrinth in play. Needless to say that doesn’t quite work
Post board vs. Show and Tell with B/W Stoneforge my opponent has sneak attack in play and just cashed in his lotus petal to block batterskull. He's only got one red producing land, no other petals, and my hand is Fetch, Fetch, Hymn to Tourach, Wasteland. I cast the hymn before playing out wasteland and it gets misdirectioned - hitting my wasteland, obviously. He had the 2nd monster.
