Good afternoon,
After reading Drew levin's article about birthing pod in legacy, I have been wondering if there are any interesting chains with birth pod that don't exist in modern, but do in legacy. {Sorry if you don't have premium, though its only $4.}
Any ideas that focus on a combo elements are welcome.
Any comments about this being a bad idea are not needed; so please refrain from trashing ideas.
If this gets a lot of interest, I will gladly revamp this thread, but for now this is just a mind game/brain storming ideas.
Of course imperial recruiter adds that tutor element to any pod chain and not to get off topic I've come up with a food chainset up to win at the bottom just to help the juices flowing. yes, any removal completely destroys it (as does the kiki combo in general) That's just common sense, so please avoid pointing that out, thank you.
food chain in play
cast imperial recruiter#1 fetch #2. repeat process, sacrificing each one till #4 is in play, and 3 mana in pool.
now fetch phantasmal imageand copy recruiter. 1 mana floating
now fetch (Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker) sacrifice image (copying recruiter) for 5 mana, cast kiki
now copy recuiter with kiki's ability and grab Deceiver Exarch
Sacrifice recruiter #4 and the cast exarch, targeting kik. WIN!
this may not be constructive but i feel like pod is too slow and durdley for legacy. i'd rather just run Green Sun's Zenith and some other creature tutors like Altar of Bone, and Sylvan Tutor instead, maybe Fauna Shaman..... i feel like most legacy decks would be set to win by the time pod is online reliably.
I think the only spot Pod really fits in Legacy is in Nic Fit, and even that is sorta hit or miss.
I guess there's some cute other things you can do (Frogmite into 5, Myr Enforcer into Griselbrand) but that's really it: it's just "cute". There's some morph guys that work well with Pod for some cheating, but nothing super to chain into comes to mind. At least, nothing that would be better than Show and Tell into Emrakul or Reanimating Griselbrand.
I've seen moderate success with a single pod in nic fit. It usually runs 4x deathrites in addition to the veteran explorers and allows for a t2 pod/lili. I have to disagree with the others in this thread saying that it's too slow; nic fit usually doesn't need to be fast to win. Pod can often be a great late-game tutor, after you've shredded their hand with therapy and hymns. But I would say the way you're running pod might best be suited for modern. In this deck at least, pod is not meant for kiki/pestermite combos. It's meant to be a way to tutor for things like Sun/Grave Titan as finishers or to stabilize by tutoring for answers early on.
Read my comment and then apologize for ignoring what I said. I am after "IDEAS" of legacy versions of pod chains that differ than modern. Like most legacy events, I can build anything that can do fine at a local tourney or kitchen table (not every tourney is GP quality) so not only you but the others complaining is not what Im after. Yes, I can just play show and tell, but I m not here to ask you your opinion of what deck I should play; I AM AFTER UNIQUE POD CHAINS!!!!!!!! {end rant}
well, Nic Fit pod variants will likely have all the chains you can imagine.
Example:
Baleful Strix
Eternal Witness
Kitchen Finks
Glen Elendra Archmage
Murderous Redcap
Acidic Slime
Shriekmaw
Sower of Temptation
Thragtusk
Grave Titan
These all came from the same list. The list uses multiple value creatures at each level of the chain to allow complex branching; which allows them to have many options available to them over the course of a game.
For obvious reasons! It's tutorable, each step of the way increases board presence and it's repeatable. With more working on the list it could work at some point; I just stopped caring.
It seems that while increasing your board presence is nice, a better use of pod would be to dramatically decrease your opponent's board presence with each step of the chain.

Here are the little self-imposed guidelines I'm working with for the multiplayer decks I've been building:
• Must be cheap. Total price tag < $100, preferably < $50. Ideally ~$30. No one card greater than about ~$6
• Format: Modern (makes getting the cards somewhat easier for the play group, and almost all my cards are Modern-legal)
• Must be relatively interesting in 1:1 games. I don't need to win against Splinter Twin, but I should be able to play duels now and then
• Avoid instant-win combos; they only serve to make me target #1, and then the deck is worse than useless because I get killed first, every time
• Must have a funny name!

Unfortunately, not all decks put up much of a board presence. The only board presence bait slower combo decks or heavy control decks may put up are often lands, artifacts, and enchantments (UW(x) Miracles's Sensei's Divining Top, High Tide's Candelabra of Tawnos, Lands's Exploration, Enchantress's battlefield).
Plain value chains that aim to outrace or outlast tend to be better against those opponents.
I hate to dredge this topic; I fixed my post realizing that the "cards" tag chopped off all but "Grave Titan"; making it extremely unhelpful. Attempted both Cards and Deck tags to no avail; apologies!
the one card I would like to see in a birthing pod deck in legacy is massacre wurm, most of the creaturs are x/1 or x2, specially with, delver and stoneblade, also it hits True-Name Nemisis.

Ideas sectionSo one I have come up with this: trinket mage into Auriok Salvagers, grabbing lion's eye diamond for the bomberman combo.

In my own unsuccessful brew I attempted a chain of Strangleroot Geist, Kitchen Finks/Eternal Witness, and Vengevine.
