So I have a solid Fish deck and also a solid monoblue martyr deck at the moment.
I have about a grand of extra cash flow about to come in and Im thinking its time to invest in some dual lands and wastelands to take my legacy game up to the next level.
My meta is pretty much entirely unfair decks. Storm and dredge and other such combo decks.
I have all the main money cards in blue I can think of, and plenty of fetchlands in a variety of colors. I do not have goyfs though.
I have a fully pimped out modern UB fae deck though.
Whats a good legacy deck that is well positioned against combo decks atm?
Is monoblue martyr good enough?
Whats our thoughts on maybe a UB fae deck in legacy? I do love me some faeries
Storm often takes a dislike to Chalice and additional mana requirement decks packing 3 spheres or Sphere of resistance/Thorn of amethyst cards.
As such the Eldrazi deck might be worth a shout. When parts get banned in Modern it will be cheap. Its a blisteringly fast deck, with 4 chalice and 4 Thorn of Amethyst, more Spheres in the side. Add in the bloody Thought knot and its a lot of disruption that can come down t1/2. Any Delver deck will have a chance and will always be a decent option.
Other decks that often beat Storm are not so "universally" good in general and often very expensive, decks like Pox and Stax type decks with a lot of disruption and access to relevant Leylines. Storm can sometimes win through the Amethyst/Thalia type takes, winning through 3 sphere is really, really hard. The issue is what happens if those unfair decks start to not get played, you are often left with a deck that is expensive and uncompetitive without more investment of time, money and effort.
Merfolk is also worth considering- Chalice again and Forces keep decks honest.

People with belligerent signatures are trying to compensate for something....
I'd bite the bullet buy the duals you want. One saving grace is, you really only need 3 of each dual max for one deck. City of Traitors you missed out on before the spike, but it could spike again if Eldrazi keeps posting strong finishes. Wasteland will drop some more when EMA is released, Karakas too if it's in EMA. I would not suggest Grixis Delver or Miracles without duals though.
Merfolk is currently what I have sleeved up, but I am finding monoblue martyr is even more powerful since it has 4 flusterstorms mainboarded on top of 4 forces and 4 dazes, and all of our creatures are annoying for unfair decks to deal with.
I actually was thinking stax would be a fun deck to play, I enjoy it.
How does U/W miracles (no red splash) do in such a meta compared to fish? I feel like miracles is a pretty solid deck. I do have some mindsculptors and most of the other random tools to build the deck, so Id just need to buy a couple tundras and wastelands and Im good.
Okay, so I just got a sweet purchase of some legacy staples, and I'm looking to get into the format. Since cash is tight, I'm going to be building up my deck one piece at a time. However, I have an Unlimited Volcanic and Underground that I can trade for things.
I've also got some other random cards like Gemstone Mine, Hypnotic Specter, Megrim, and stuff. Nothing fancy.
I like playing control, though I'm not sure I'm a huge fan of Miracles. I've been playing around with a couple Lands lists and I've tried out Shardless BUG, and I'm wondering what you suggest.
Given that you like control decks, and assuming that you like Life from the Loam because you tried Lands and that you like Hymn to Tourach and Dark Ritual because you own them, you could try Pox with Loam.
I dont know how good a match up D&T has against eldrazi considering a chalice for 1 or 2 is really rough for that deck to deal with. Id say go for Miracles or shardless bug if you want to be interactive. The duals will destroy your bank roll though so keep that in mind.

My Decks that have been BANNED

I play Maverick and its by no means tier 1 but it'll put up a fight against most other matchups. Very fun and interactive deck to play if you can survive decks with unfair turn 1 and 2 combos. Savannah's are probably the second least expensive true dual and the rest of the big money staples should still keep you under $600 (windswept heaths, stoneforge mystics, knight of the reliquary, noble hierarchs, deathrite shamans). Best part is if you get tired of playing maverick, you can swap over to death and taxes with little fuss save for a playset of aether vials.
Locally, seemed like an even match for Death and taxes. I did get wrecked by an ANT deck recently though.
I played miracles for years (love the deck) and you can definitely build it without duals (only basics, no red splash). I would note that in regards to eldrazi (my current deck), miracle's is a really good match up. The games will feel interactive, but miracles will lose 80% - 90% of the time. (This depends on the miracles build, not sure if there is any super secret tech they are running against eldrazi yet)
Death & Taxes on the other hand is a very 50 - 50 matchup, but those games tend to be one sided, either D&T locks eldrazi off mana, or eldrazi is just bigger and badder.
Delver of secrets decks also tend to have little interaction on game 1, if eldrazi gets chalice of the void or thorn of amethyst out early. However post sideboard games against delver of secrets decks can get really grinding and I tend to enjoy them, having to play around daze, or smash to smithereens ect. There are also a bunch of different build options here and color options that you can test with. You could even start with a 2 color UR build so you are not as dual land dependent.
I have 8creature burn, affinity, and 90% of a spiral tide list.
Sort of working on merfolk, need more lands and a few creatures but otherwise I have it all.
Not sure what to build next, I have no duals but a few fetches left in the white, green and black area.
All my blue fetches are in use, not sure what I want to do next, I like being on the not so beaten path.
I was working on a pod dek for modern then pod got banned, I was going to build some sort of junk rhino deck but never got around to finishing it as modern I really can't stand.
I want something I can really make use of with hymn and w/g/b type build with as few duals as possible.
I own a very random chunk of paper Legacy cards from playing EDH, a collection of old cards, etc. I've played Shardless BUG and TES on MTGO and liked them both, but paper legacy is so much more expensive to get into it's a bit of a show-stopper. I don't feel like I fall into a single archetype, which is part of the problem. I love grindy card advantage matches that Shardless has, I love thinking through lines and winning out of nowhere with TES, I think I'd love pushing through damage with an aggro/tempo deck if I owned one too.
I basically own all of TES in paper, minus the LEDs, but LEDs (and probably also 2x Volcanic Islands) seem like a hefty investment in decks that don't seem to win events. I think I'm mostly looking for someone to talk me down from spending $500 on 4 LEDs that won't really help me build toward other decks and won't win much.
I've got 2x USeas, 1x Tundra, 1x Bayou, 1x Scrubland, 1x Gaea's Cradle, 2x FoW, 4x Cabal Therapy, all the combo rocks for storm, 4x of almost every fetch, a bunch of Reanimator stuff.
Basically I'm a mess. I'd like to buy toward something in Legacy but not sure what.
Tin Fins: I've heard that it feels like a mix of TES and Reanimator, it doesn't require LED, and it fits in with cards you have
Food Chain: You'd need Trops, but you have a lot of the expensive cards, and it's a cool mix of a grindy midrange deck and a deck that wins out of nowhere, which might appeal to you

Getting two more FOWs opens you up to alot more decks. You can substitute dazes and what not for them but it will get you killed a lot of times. With the cards you have you could try reanimator, tinfins. Elves could work if you ran 3 crop rotation + 1 cradle but it will be janky. Manaless Dredge is another option. 2 Fow + 2 Counterspell merfolk could work too.
I could afford 2 more FoWs but what do they open up? Seems like I'm still stuck in the same place where I need lots of money cards to even think about a winning deck.

Reanimator definitely you can run it with 2 seas. Merfolk. Omnitell if you can get some snts. If you turn your seas into trops you can go infect, food chain..etc
Hello all! I'm new to legacy, and yesterday I borrowed my friend's Eldrazi deck to jam some games at my LGS and I loved it. However, I am having trouble selecting a deck to build towards. I love playing control and I've fallen in love with Miracles, but I'm a little nervous about what to buy with Eternal Masters so close. I don't want to drop $300 on Jaces and then have him go down to $70 a piece. What do I buy into now?

Buy reserved list stuff, like dual lands. Also cheap commons and uncommons, and sub-$10 rares. I've already bought all of the cheap stuff for RUG delver and burn, and some of these cards could go up with more players interested in legacy if they're not reprinted in EMA. Depending on which version you're building you'll want to pick up Monastery Mentors since it probably won't be reprinted in EMA considering it's from a newish set. Also pick up Flooded Strands.

What I did to fund RUG delver a couple years ago was buylist my staples (especially Zendikar fetches when they were high) for store credit. I used Channel Fireball (use the code 5back to get 5% back on your purchase in store credit, I did that on my first huge lot of cards buying from them to get more cards). Holding onto modern/legacy staples isn't going to do you much good if you aren't going to play with them all, and if you buylist the stuff you're not using, you can actually build a complete winning legacy deck (Shardless BUG). I like Shardless BUG as it's good at grinding out advantage. Shardless Agent cascading into Ancestral Vision or Hymn to Tourach is pretty busted. If you're going to build storm then ANT is better, but it's more skill intensive than Shardless BUG. If you make a mistake you can lose the game.
TES's win record is mainly due to the fact that it's not a super popular version. It's complex by nature and takes a lot of mastery to pilot, but that's part of why I like it, it truly rewards a skilled pilot. There's honestly never been a matchup where I've just felt like I didn't stand a chance. Both ANT and TES have been picking up steam showing up more as people are catching on to exactly how good they actually are. I obviously prefer TES. It's a deck that I've played for 3+ years and I still learn new, weird plays, like Brainstorming the Ad Nauseum to the top of my deck, casting Git Probe, and responding to GitProbe by cracking two LEDs to cast the Ad Nauseum I draw when GitProbe resolves.
You're literally 6 cards away from a genuinely very good deck, I'd take the Cradle, Scrubland, Bayou, and Tundra to a GP or something and trade for the remaining pieces. What're ya gonna do with 1 Cradle anyway? Get 2 more and build Elves?
TES offers you the winning out of nowhere with the combo kill, the overwhelming aggro when you make 16 goblins on T1, and the Past in Flames route even gives you a way to grind a longer game out if necessary. It's a good deck, and it's even better when you're in the minority of players; you catch less hate that way. I vote for building the deck, you're so close!
