Two big mtg vendors/companies are collaborating together to bring a new format known as frontier format. This allows all cards from M15 up to be used in decks. This also a non-rotating format. What are your guy's thoughts?
So basically Rally, Rhino, and Coco as far as the eye can see. Seems like a bad standard to me. Definitely not something I would consider picking up and playing.

Standard: GR Pummeler
Modern: Mono-Red Control, Lantern Control, Eldrazi Taxes, Skred Infect
Pauper: Affinity
EDH: Gaddock Teeg Kithkin Tribal, Meren
Legacy: 8 Rack, Omnitell (Both in progress)
M15, Khans of Tarkir, Fate Reforged, Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins, Battle for Zendikar, Oath of the Gatewatch, Shadows Over Innistrad, Eldritch Moon, Kaladesh...
The reason Modern flourished is because Legacy had a reserve list that made it impossible for price control and deck prices went through the roof. Nothing in Modern is on the reserve list (just like this "Frontier" format), so you don't get any real benefit from switching to Frontier from Modern. Frontier is only budget right now because it doesn't have a following.
If it ever gets as popular as Modern... it will be just as expensive. (from what I understand, it's this pricing that is driving the whole "Frontier" movement)
Having maybe 5 more sets would be ideal. All signs point towards wotc doing this anyways so I had planned to make a few purchases to get ahead of it.
I think the reception will be surprisingly positive. I and many modern players I've talked to are tired of the same linear aggro or degenerate decks round after round.
I do worry that the power level of some of the removal is a bit low ATM though.
I'm playing Goblin tribal in it but i fear that the terror of the Rhino will return.
Abit early for this format go big but i can see it working. It really anoeyd me that after you getting atatched to a standard deck you will need to dissolve it because of fast rotations. The deck also wouldn't survive in modern so this new format will give more insentive to use your dusty standard cards.
Abzan midrange will be damn sick in this format. Access to both shambling vent and hissing quagmire, access to blossoming marsh and concealed courtyard, access to some of the most powerful planeswalkers notably Liliana, the Last Hope, Nissa, Vital Force, Sorin, Solemn Visitor and top of the curve ugin. Not to mention siege rhino, sylvan advocate, kalitas, grim flayer, iskanah, grafwidow and many spot removals. Languish and fumigate.

What signs has WOTC shown that indicates this is the direction they are going? Simply a new border?
Literally every standard since m15 has been dominated by a green deck, this would be green.format. You would need more sets to create a meta that isn't just a bunch of the same decks smashing advocates together
Eventually this format likely replaces modern to get almost every degenerate card out of the card pool, but it's still too soon with such a limited card pool. Also solves the goyf problem/they don't want to get it to a reasonable price because it would upset so many people, but if the value drops because modern is no longer supported people may be mad with their investment dropping, but they can't really blame WotC if they decide to go with one format over another.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Pricing issues are moot here because if players want it to be an inexpensive format, then they'll just have to accept it as a niche format. Any higher aspirations of it replacing modern betray the main point of the format. If it does become popular, prices will surge, and eventually people will become sick and tired of the costs and try to find a new cutting-off point. Wash, rinse, repeat, and you've essentially resurrected Extended. This is a market-driven rotation Extended.
Again, the price of modern staples is one of the reasons to create a new format. But, to really be worthwhile, that format needs some time and more sets to get interesting builds and a good metagame. But by then, the now-cheap-cards will be 10 years old and might become expensive themself, having solved nothing in the long run.
I think that's my issue with it, its such a small card pool at this time, it doesn't really seem to be that interesting to me. It just seems like it'll be solved as fast as Tiny Leaders was
Adding RTR, Theros plus M14 maybe 13 would be more appealing I think. Plus some Bannings like Fetchlands.
I think maybe having Theros and later as a format might be a cheaper alternative as no shock lands at all, maybe ban fetch lands too so then there are no ridiculous mana bases. At the same time though, that's kind of the "double standard" that extended turned into at that point. and look where that format turned into.
Over all, I can't see it being that great of a format. As I said before, it reminds me too much of Tiny Leaders and Extended. Tiny Leaders was another casual community created format that was popular for a bit then was figured out really quickly. Extended was essentially "double standard" (which Frontier is pretty much now) and look how popular that was.
Part of me also feels it'll just turn into Rally the Ancestors and CoCo decks plus maybe Abzan midrange decks
I was having a debate with someone on Instagram last night. He was saying Frontier will be a good option for people who don't wanna pay the entry fee for modern, as its quite expensive. I told him pretty much how I feel about it and he just said it's too different from Tiny Leaders due to it being a non-singleton format. I guess he thought the format could be more diverse than I do, but I mean I guess it could be more diverse than either of us thought. Neither of us were able to convince the other of anything after that, as most internet debates go.
I can't see this format being cheaper than modern, I mean, don't you remember how expensive were the 4 color decks before SOI? Unless you count only as new players those who bought enough standard staples since m15 every deck should be as expensive as the average tier 2 modern deck. Also we definitely would need a starting banlist unless we don't have a problem playing only abzan mirrors.

I just think the format won't go anywhere
