I know that some people have played with a smaller deck in commander. Some people i know have even ddone it on purpose (missing a few cards) to hae a higher chance of getting the card they want. Even recently with partner i have seen one person missing 20 cards from his deck (Though double sleeved to hide that missing chunk and had partner so he had 2 more cards missing from that already massive chunk)
He doesn't play with us anymore, not his choice, ours.
Not in great sort but what if there was a variant that allowed you to not only remove 40% of your deck but also play multiple copies of certain cards. I say color identity still applies, along with both the commander ban list and any banlist of the format you play (So if you play a modern deck, you would have to use the modern legal cards) (Aside form the commander)
I feel it could be really fun to pull out a kitchen table deck and play commander with it by adding a commander. Maybe I am just trying to hard to add a casual format to an already casual format and maybe the variant should be the exact same rules as commander just a smaller deck size but who knows, maybe I am onto something and not realizing it.
