So I've been getting into Tiny Leaders over the past few months and I've only gotten a playgroup of a few friends together to play it. I have access to the disgustingly good cards like Goyf and Liliana but my friends don't, so to keep things a little more fair i'm trying to go for a more synergistic build of Anafenza instead of just the ol' standby of the rock decks. Here's what I have right now:
So that's the current list! I'm not too sure about Vinelasher Kudzu and how it does as a topdeck in the lategame, and I'm also not sure about cards like Athreos, God of Passage and Birds of Paradise. Would they be better as removal or synergistic cards, or are they necessary? I still want this deck to be competitive, just with synergy instead of individual powerhouses. Any suggestions or cards I may have missed that could make this list better are MUCH appreciated!
That seems like a pretty snazzy option! I saw from your Anafenza list that Curse of Predation could go well with it and the deck in general. I would probably take out Athreos for it, having too many enchantments could lead to some awkward draws. I wish there were good Rogues or Warriors so Oona's Blackguard and Bramblewood Paragon would be extra spicy! I'm not sure if those two would be good enough, they seem like they could be awkward at times...
I've been doing some testing and you're definitely right about Oona's Blackguard, that card is sick. Curse has also been doing work for me. The mana from birds is worth it staying in the deck too. I think i've reached a solid list, anything else I could add? There's also the question of a sideboard...
I had originally put Vault in my deck, but I took it out because having gavony and vault in the same deck was causing me a lot of problems. My meta is just a group of buddies of mine, there's a Nin, the Pain Artist, Teysa, Orzhov Scion, and Alesha, who Smiles at Death. But I would like to be ready to face off against any deck, as you never know when someone will want to play. I know my board should have cards like Black Sun's Zenith and sweepers like that, and also Rest in Peace to hose graveyard strategies, but what cards are going to give me the most bang for my buck?
Thanks for the suggestions! There's still a few tiny (heh heh) kinks to work out with the deck before it can be perfect:
I've been playtesting a lot recently and I've noticed that I'm not drawing a lot of removal; I think I'm just not running enough. What could I take out for some solid removal like Smother? Maybe I could move the sword to the sideboard, but that feels pretty bad.
I also think something may be wrong with my mana if I'm having trouble running vault and gavony together, I feel like that should be able to work, but maybe it just can't, I'm no Tiny Leader expert!
This card seems rather unexciting, and you can't play it on turn two, you have to awkwardly wait. I would prefer something like Den Protector, which is very versatile.
Courser is realy good in Doran here is cool but not must have you can cut him if your mana base dont pain you so much
That's what I'm going to have to do to make room for all these new goodies!
You bring up a good point, maybe I need both of them in the deck still. That just leaves the question of what do I add? If i'm cutting a Sculler for Smother, that leaves me cutting Courser with no replacement, so which card from Dragons would fit best? It's probably between Den Protector and Inspiring Call.
Random sidenote: how well do you guys (aka literally just one person, thanks ptaq) think Travel Preparations could do in a deck like this? It would have synergy with basically everything, although it obviously suffers from potentially being a "do-nothing." I'm also wanting t test Dromoka's Command and Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, as both seem good for the deck.
I'm going to do some serious testing with the new Anafenza and Dromoka's Command, I'll let you know how it ends up working out for me. I was probably being way too hopeful in assuming Travel Prep was anything but trash
So I've been trying out some of these new cards, and Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit has actually been really good, as has Dromoka's Command. Den Protector has been great also. And I took some of your advice and tried out a little bit of Avatar of the Resolute. Even though he doesn't really have abilities aside from trample and reach, he's just been insane with like Ajani, thanks for the suggestion!
Light and shadow is okay, but I feel like against non WB decks it's just a bad pump spell :/ especially since we have so many good cards that pump and give evasion anyway, I felt it wasn't needed so I cut it. I also cut a land for a Black Sun's Zenith, sweepers are good! I'll get around to posting the new list soon so we can see where we are.
Earlier you said you were testing with Varolz, how has that been going?
Oh, I completely forgot that Toxic Deluge existed, so I'll have to shell out the extra $12 for that instead of the Zenith.
As of right now here is the updated list!
Now I think I want to squeeze in just a bit more +1/+1 counter creatures, which probably means giving up Eternal Witness due to its lack of synergy. I can't decide which is better, Vinelasher Kudzu(I could add fetches to the deck maybe) or Quirion Dryad, or Mistcutter Hydra. Probably Mistcutter makes the cut, but is adding either of the other two worth it?
Both seem like pretty weak topdecks, its hard to say whether the deck could use them or not. I cut Knight of the Reliquary for Mistcutter hydra, and that feels right. Knight has no synergy with the deck outside of being able to tutor Gavony/Oran-Reif, and that never comes up. I will playtest with Dryad and Kudzu+another fetch or two and see which ends up being better in the event that a spot in the list opens up!
Servant seems like a really bad topdeck; at least the other one drops have utility or fly, servant only seems alright turns 1-2 and it doesn't really attack well so you're paying 1 mana for one or two counters :/

There are also a few Dragons of Tarkir cards to consider for a deck like this one, cards like Dromoka's Command, Den Protector, Inspiring Call, and Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit.
I would consider taking out Courser or Curse for some new tech, courser seems slow and Curse seems pretty vanilla. Let me know what you guys think!
I meant Sword of light and Shadow, but I'm not going to cut it, it's super good.
I feel like one Inquisition of Kozilek is way better than zero, I can't NOT play it.
I didn't mean use Vault and Gavony at the same time lol, i meant having both in the deck leads to mana problems

OUT:
Tidehollow Sculler
Courser of Kruphix
Hardened Scales
IN:
Smother
Inspiring Call
Den Protector
(I don't think taking out Eternal Witness is correct when recursion is so important in this format)

Also: Mistcutter Hydra should be in the sideboard I took out the Sword of Light and Shadow and Mother of Runes for some of the new additions, and I think that's fine.
