I'm a retired magic player (stopped playing at the end of Alara Reborn, since playing from 1996) and recently sold my collection. However, every now and again I get the itch to play the magical cards again. Usually a limited event is enough, but sometimes I look forward to a constructed event. Thankfully my LGS has a pretty decent crowd of Pauper EDH players to have some fun with. The group is actually fairly competitive, and most games are 1-v-1, though the occasional mutiplayer game breaks out. The list I have is for 1-v-1, and looking to have a few floater cards to swap in and out when the mutiplayer games take place (though wouldn't mind some critic on the 1-v-1 version). Without further ado, here is my take on R/G Beats:
First off the general and why it's not Bloodbraid Elf:
I believe that in this shell of a deck, Bloodbraid does not do enough for me, where as the guildmage helps the fatties that don't have trample get through. It also acts as a late game mana sink. Animating 4/4s with the amount of land accelerators the deck runs can lead the deck to victory even if plan A goes south. Is it a perfect general? Not really, but it does do the trick for now.
While 30 lands does seem a tad low, the deck has enough ways to cheat/find lands it hasn't proved an issue quite yet. Our LGS has a house rule for EDH that you draw 10 cards and shuffle 3 from your opening hand back in. This allows for a lot smoother mana draws.
I understand Scaled Wurm and The Lady of the Mountain may not be the best choices, but they are pure nostalgia for me. Though the Scaled Wurm I could be persuaded to drop.
Does anyone has an suggestions for a plan to handle mutiplayer games?
Thanks in advance for any help/advice that is offered.
