After a several-year hiatus, I'm returning to Commander with 2 friends who are starting out (Jodah goodstuff transitioning to superfriends, Lord Windgrace). Windgrace just dropped a bunch of money on upgrades, so I'd like to update Sekki (as my by-far weakest deck) to at least not flop as hard.
As you can see, there used to be a massive Spirit theme which warranted the inclusion of Door of Destinies. Before the hiatus I played this deck to decent enough success at my old playgroup as a "Mono-G Spirit Tribal", so now I think I'm okay with letting the spirits go to make the deck a little less casual.
Note:
- Sekki's wording tries to do two different things as it prevents X damage - the tokens and counters aren't actually dependent on one another. This means that Tower of Calamities removes 8 counters but still generates 12 tokens.
- Similar to above, if Sekki has 0 counters but kept alive through a static +1/+1 effect, it will continue preventing damage and generating tokens.
Non-Tribal Interactions:
1) Sekki + a source of damage more than the counters it's holding = Sekki generates tokens equal to the damage it took, then dies since it's probably 0/0. If Sekki dies to 0 counters, there are probably 8+ Spirits to be sacced and rez.
2) Sekki + anthem/enchantment/other effect granting +1 toughness = Sekki cannot die to damage (prevention effect) but continues making babies.
3) Sekki + Cauldron of Souls = since Sekki always has counters on entry, it never gets a true -1/-1 counter and can be persisted every turn.
4) Sekki + damage redirection (Pariah's Shield, "fight" effects, and to an extent, Shinen of Life's Roar) = Sekki takes massive damage, creates many tokens, and probably rezzes back as needed.
5) Sekki + DS/PL = Doubling Season be cray cray.
I'm on a bit of a budget and would prefer to not go above $5-ish for a card, maybe 10-15 if it's not a niche thing and I could use it in other decks.
Appreciate the help! Thanks in advance.

With the Kirin and other lifegain outlets, Aetherflux Reservoir can be an alt win con. Have you thought about using Second Harvest to crank out more spirits? Bloodspore Thrinax can also give Sekki more incoming +1 counters.
While I suspect that I will (un?)fortunately be ditching the Spirit package (and Kirin), the mention of lifegain did make me think of Essence Warden. On its own it's not enough to justify the Reservoir, but the Warden might be interesting with a Commander that constantly generates tokens.
I did not know about the Second Harvest and Thrinax and will look into them.
Thanks!
