So I finally got to take a look through Commander 2017 and discovered they had finally given good ol Mairsil a card, and it made me happy, as Mairsil is one of those old lore characters we got a good feel for but then were left wanting for an actual appearance.
I set to work making my own deck for him, but it felt like I wasn't going anywhere. I wanted to try and combo with Chainer and Kokusho, but then came the frustration of Mairsil's "once per turn" claus. I considered just building a flicker deck, but it was slow and clunky and even then could only help me a few times before I was out of gas. In my frustration, I started to google ways to extend Mairsil's combo potential, and was shown this tweet stating that Quicksilver Elemental creates new instances of the abilities, letting Mairsil use them all over again.
Being able to use abilities again for 1 mana meant infinite combos. What better way to go infinite, than with infinite turns?
A lot of the deck is just filling your graveyard and drawing cards to dig for your combos. The main infinites of the deck, and its primary wincons, are:
Gilded Lotus + Staff of Domination / Pili-Pala + Quicksilver Elemental
Tap for mana with the lotus ability, untap with either the staff or Pili-Pala ability, and use Quicksilver to start it all over again. This generates one mana each time and also lets you restart your combo infinitely.
This one is failry straightforward. When Thopter Assembly makes the 5 tokens, use the Sieve ability, repeat next turn, etc. Myr Matrix can also help us with this with our previously mentioned infinite mana combo.
This can also be achieved with Sage of Hours and Anthroplasm by using your abundant (hopefully infinite) mana to generate counters constantly. Even if you cannot make infinite, generating enough mana for this to be obnoxious should be easy enough.
I'm trying to keep the deck under $300, but didn't put the budget tag on because I feel like that is more for decks under a smaller line. If I need to add it I will tho.
