Hello everyone, this is my take on our good friend Neheb, the Eternal. Once I saw this huge typeline spoiled, I knew I had to build a deck with him
The ability is pretty unique, and how neat is it that by becoming a zombie he lost his black color identity. The definition of a flavor win! (citation needed)
Now I could have filled the list with Dark Rituals and Banefires, but doing that nonsense can get boring fast. I decided to go more on the permanent-based damage plan, and hopefully that will enable me to ramp up into some earth-shattering turns.
Also the reason I'm not running Purphoros is because I don't like that card so nyeeeh also, slight hellion tribal subtheme because they are sweet
Without further ado, let's see what Neb-daddy has to offer:
Especially because that'll probably just end the game with Volcano Hellion
Yes. I like that interaction. A lot. I also like the idea of Forbidden Orchard to make sure opponents always have some kind of creature to off. I also really like Runehorn Hellkite as a way to Wheel of Fortune from the yard. It's mana cost is too high for a lot of decks, but here you'll sometimes really need a place to dump more mana than you know what to do with.

Runehorn seems like a home-run in this deck, don't know how I missed it before. Thanks for the suggestion.
My pleasure. I'm planning on building the deck as well, but going mostly non-creature with damage based boardwipes with Repurcussion. Making some exceptions for powerhouse creatures Heartless Hidetsugu and odd-balls that synergize like Stuffy Doll. Should play sufficiently different from my Norin the Wary deck that I won't mind having two mono-red decks in the box!
Have been toying with many ideas for the list, and will likely post a prototype once I get home from work today. But my plan has been generate mana rock > generate Neheb > give Neheb protection > Massive LD > keep the pain coming anyway because we're still pumping tons of mana
A sub-theme of the deck is to play mostly all the good cards from Kai Budde's Wildfire Red deck just for nostalgia lol. Just need to pick up my copy of Mishra's Helix and im set.
I read this somewhere else a while ago which might interest you:
Quote from From somewhere else »
With Neheb on the table, cast Treasonous Ogre, pay 36 life to add 12 R to your mana pool, cast Soul Conduit and use it to trade life totals with an opponent, then after combat use the 36 R to deal 35 damage to your two other opponents with Fall of the titans. That's 3 opponents at 5 life or less on turn 6, or less if you ramp into Neheb.
I especially like the Soul Conduit as it can help you win against opponents who try to gain infinite life somewhow. Also, I think Malignus deserves a spot in there as he scales nicely with opponent's life total and mana supply. Crash Through also seems good as it replaces itself and can allow you to connect where you would otherwise be unable to.
You also really, really need to add Pyromancer's Goggles because copying big mana spells for free wins games.
Kumano, Master Yamabushi > Crater Hellion. Crater Hellion is a nice combo piece with Stuffy Doll but you're not running that and since the Hellion can't hit players I don't see it's purpose. Kumano is a good mana sink to help you clear the board of pesky blockers or just straight up turn excess mana into damage.
Fanatic of Mogis will probably not help you ramp I guess? I have no experience with the card but I don't think he will ofen produce more mana than it costs? Maybe swapping it with Worn Powerstone to improve the chances of ramping into Neheb would be better.
Last but not least: Flame Rift in 4 player game is a ritual that adds 12 R to your mana pool for 1R. And Mimic Vat should be Obsidian Battle-Axe: give Neheb haste and allow him to generate more mana (pay for himself!) when he enters the battlefield.

I added some different creatures as well as a few blaze effects, for some late game oomph.

I feel Koth of the Hammer > Chandra, Pyromanster because he helps with additional mana.
