What started as a Jenara light-prison/stax deck has morphed into a Jenara, Asura of War deck (mostly so that I can actually keep my friends) with the idea being to model the ancient legends along the lines of the Greeks and Norse pantheons. As such, it's war-themed with humans, angels, and gods as if the deck represented going off to the final, ultimate battle (think Ragnarok or the escape of the Titans). The deck's pretty straightforward, but I do have some combat tricks to throw into the mix to throw off my friend's plans.
Now, I know my lands are too low of count for most people's preference and I'm very happy with the actual non-land card slots for my group's play level (meaning not optimized to any real degree) because this list is along the lines of how I want to interact with an edh table. I'll make adjustments when I see problems in real play, which will probably be at least three more basic lands since I have some slots to shoehorn them into. So, this isn't a "fix my deck" posting. Also, I'm not willing to spend major $$$ on goodstuff.dec selections beyond what I already have. I assure you they are not needed for playing in my group.
But, if you have a fun, non-spendy card idea that will fit the theme that I didn't think of, I'M. ALL. EARS. Thanks!
After some testing, found that I need more hard answers and ramp with less combat tricks. Only changed out about ten cards, here's the revised list. I like Alara Charms, found that Ravnica Charms and others are also very useful. Also upgraded Creeping Corrosion to Austere Command. Please don't be shy if you have some suggestions, critiques. Even if I make no changes, I like to consider other opinions.
Now, I'm going to use Rafiq over Jenara. Makes sense play-wise to put this up against Varolz, Zurgo, and Scion of the Ur-Dragon voltrons in my group. The only card change is the Commander, but Rafiq will accelerate angel damage, and give me a good opportunity for voltron kills if the right auras come into hand.
So I got punk'd all game long by a Phrexian Skate, and taken out by Pemmin's Aura on Merieke Ri Berit. There were some other circumstances I won't go into, but I just didn't have what I needed in auras.
So, now, this is taking out what I don't need to put in more of what I do need. Playtime is over, beefing up on removal and protection/recovery from that removal.
