This is going to sound crazy, but Crypt Ghast has been underperforming. It's on the chopping block. I don't want to get the $20 Swamp called Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Another card that's got to get cut is the Orzhov Cluestone, I should get a 2 mana ramp spell. I'm still partial on the Worn Powerstone as it gets me good bump in mana for its cost. I guess I'm on for the quest for faster, more reliable mana.
Right now my conundrum is Painful Quandary. It's part of the Prison Package yet it has been drawing a lot of hate. I don't know if to accept that the hate is part of the prison, as it and Rule of Law have drawn a lot of ire. I know Rule of Law is necessary for the prison and I do like Quandary but not sure if the hate is worth it. I've been contemplating maybe removing that for another Wrath or perhaps Angelic Chorus so my Daxos-men pad my life total as they come into play.
Oppression, Necrogen Mists and Bottomless Pit all got passes from my opponents, but as soon as I played a Painful Quandary people lost their goddamn minds. I don't know if it was paying 5 life or the fact that I wasn't affected by my own Prison pieces but Quandary is what made people come after me, and come hard. Cutting it, I've decided to go with another win-con due to the discussion in Rumpy's Primer thread over difficulties closing out games.
Also, Knell gives me 3 black or white, which can matter for Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. There have been times when I wanted White or Black but my permanents were the wrong colour.
I recounted my mana base and realized that I am at almost 50% White and Black cards. I rejigged the manabase to be 50% Plains and Swamps, making the Ghast less of a likely pick. Before I even did this, I thought that it was underperforming. There is talk on Rumpy's Daxos Primer on the benefits of the Decree, namely that it replaces itself from being the Monarch, curves right after Daxos and builds more into the Pillowfort. Tossing it in to test it out.
How's that Gray Merchant of Asphodel been treating you? It doesn't get talked about a lot in Rumpy's thread, but I've had one in my list for a while and it's been SUPER impressive.
Gray Merchant is pretty awesome. It's a card that I believe that if you play Black and use a permanent based strategy, it's an auto-include. The life gain is good, the drain is only useful if you can loop it with Skybind. I don't have Cloudstone Curio in my deck right now, but maybe I should put it back in to try out a defensive use rather than an offensive use. Also, it has this funny effect of players understanding the card. What I mean is that most of the time my opponents are really confused with the random assortment of cards we put down, especially if they search my deck. When I play Gary, it's like they suddenly feel like they understand my strategy and are put at ease. In reality, I just have him as a way to pad my life total and incidentally win me the game.
I've decided to retire Daxos. He's not fun with a win or a loss. I either get overwhelmed, do nothing and get smashed helplessly or I lock my opponents out and don't give a fair game.
These cards will be cannibalized with my other decks.
After the success of my Progenitus deck against newer players, I decided to build another less competitive deck. And by build, rebuild Daxos. I was tired of always trying to push Daxos into this amazing lockdown deck which I think helps with the waltz-pace of W/B that isn't heavy Stax/Hatebears. With that in mind, I removed a lot of the competitive things and rebooted him. This is the first real change since his resurrection.
I like the inevitability Grim Guardian provides and he comes back with Sun Titan's ability. Also, synergizes with Graveborn Muse by being a Zombie to draw me more cards and even more if Daxos is in play too. By being an Enchantment Creature, he also ups Daxos' XP. The Ophiomancer was OK, just made a punk 1/1 to steer people away.
Greed draws me cards, something the deck needs and not costly dollar-wise for a casual deck like Necropotence. I figured the Graverobber was the closest in terms of value-making that wasn't an Enchantment.
Mortify is just a kill spell for something troublesome, Flickering Ward could resolve that as well. Plus the ability to bounce it means churning out a lot of XP, another tool for Daxos to do his thing.
Everflowing is one of the best mana rocks so it just came down to which one to cut? I chose Thought Vessel because going to 7+ cards is rare and otherwise contributes in no other way.
Underworld Connections allows you to decide when to draw or not; I vastly prefer the 'set it and forget it' of Phyrexian Arena.
Sigil had a hard time getting angels out, too much cast requirements. Animate Dead should provide some good stuff at a very affordable price that Sun Titan also recurs.
Debtors' Knell is costly and slow and is supposed to win me the game. You know what else wins me the game? Not having to keep recasting Daxos over and over as he gets randomly blown up or targeted. Gift is lower on the curve, doesn't make me feel so bad if I decide to Wrath myself, triggers Constellation if it comes back and most importantly keeps Daxos alive to power out his men.
Cast Out is more expensive than Thopter Arrest but I think it's way worth it. Cycling means that if I need a particular answer I can dig, otherwise it Exiles more but does so at Instant Speed. A lot decks have 'at Instant Speed' as normal praise but it is a lot more in a Daxos shell. I have two Rule of Law-type cards in the deck, so having Flash on my Enchantments advances my Experience but does so when I'm in a restricted way.
Normally, I don't have that much emphasis on Exile Graveyard but considering how often Daxos turns games into absolute grindfests it's important to eliminate any resources. Plus it is another Creature for blocking and triggers easily.
Losing Wayfarer's Bauble stings a little as B/W needs it ramp; however, the ability to tutor for any Land will greatly enhance Daxos' ability to close out games. Already the Wayfarer has made me want to add in Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth due to ease in which he fetches all the relevant pieces.
Grave Betrayal is expensive and seems to cause players to push for a board wipe that hits Enchantments. Also, if I need to Wrath it usually means I cannot dally. Anointed Procession will help Daxos close out and does so at in a much faster fashion. Plus the drop in cost from 7 for 4 means I feel like I've earned a free Daxos activation.
The deck is getting tuned enough that Untapped mana is now more important than fixing. The ETBT from Terramorphic is no longer desirable, even with the possibility of looping Sun Titan. Though to be honest, that's more in theory than practice - I was usually too busy doing other things with Sun Titan. Cataracts' Indestructibility probably doesn't matter - the ability to filter large sums of mana, such as from a Serra's Sanctum means it is easier to cast Daxos tokens. If I add in Coffers, I assume that Cataracts will increase in value from there.
I guess I've resigned to that upgrading anything over time eventually makes it more competitive. With that in mind, I did make a change that could argubaly make the deck more casual:
Ayli, if things are going well, can be better than an Utter End. I've noticed a lot of games where incidental life gain puts me into her 50 Life requirement. What's great is she adds to that, plus a Sac Outlet if I want things to die (like looping Gray Merchant of Asphodel from various recursion effects). One of her Sac Outlets can keep me alive and my Daxos-men can have pretty impressive numbers. On top of that, there's lasering problems away forever - that's something I could definitely get behind. With the heavier mana requirements and desire to make the deck more competitive, I've put Nykthos back in.
Cover should help me finish out the game quickly; it's a threat that needs to be answered and it is very affordable. I like Angelic Renewal but looking at all of my cards, it seems to be the most cuttable to me.
Considering how often people employ deep clean Wraths, I want to make sure the mana I get is permanent and the Sword makes that exponential if left unanswered.
Hour is strictly better than Planar Cleansing. Otherwise, it's sprucing up my manabase. The amount of times I've won after hitting 1 life or dying exactly at 1 makes me want to try out Barrens for the single life point. Lastly, sometimes it's too hard to punch through my opponent's defenses with my Daxos Spirits no matter how big they are, so Rogue's Passage will help me smash in there.
Again, losing because I happened to be low occurs too often. I get clipped by an Exsanguinate or other AoE spell that does me in. Creatures aren't so much the problem, so I cut a Wrath for another card that'll increase Daxos' Experience while keeping me alive. It also synergizes with Ayli, Eternal Prilgrim to making me able to pin point remove problems. I also decided to add back in the big mana package, just to poop out more Daxos-men. Urborg is a strictly better Swamp, the Coffers cut the ETBT Land because they're functionally similar in they don't operate by themselves on the turn they come in, usually.
Interesting. Given how you have no unconditional tutoring, you're pretty much stuck with Weathered Wayfarer/Expedition Map to try to get the Urborg+Coffers dream online. Let us know how it fares after a number of games, it's one of those things that I might be needlessly leery towards.
The deck feels really tight, so I don't know what the hell to axe. I am thinking of adding Necropotence back in, as people agree that it isn't too insane for what this deck tries to do. I guess they're too used for Necro to be some sort of insane engine that results in kills, rather than enjoying steady value from it. I would probably cut Graveborn Muse for that.
Another card I'm also considering is Mirage Mirror. That thing is insane. It can turn into Coffers #2 at the least, or a second Sphere of Safety if I think someone's gunning for me. Again, don't know what to axe for it but it seems good man.
I probably should put more tutors in the deck but the lack of tutors is what makes the deck still feel Casual. It has a high power ceiling but that's if you let it get there; meanwhile, Daxos will probably let people play their strategies out and mind his own business until its way too late.
Muse got cut just because it's like for like. With even more addition of cards that gain me life, I think I've struck a solid balance between the two.
I can't think of what to cut for Mirage Mirror, it has so much potential. If only it started as an Enchantment.
I'm thinking of axing the two Cycle Lands. The idea is that if I draw them late, I can cycle to draw a card. The deck is so mana hungry, however, that I rarely actually want to cycle them. They also do screw me if drawn in the early game.
I ripped the cyclers out very quickly from the precon. They just don't gel with what the deck sets out to do, as you're pointing out. Out they go! Basics will be fine instead
The Courtyard comes into play untapped when it matters and doesn't when it shouldn't.
I'm noticing that I should probably make more room for removal, like an Utter End, because yesterday the deck had Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim but couldn't gain life due to being under an opponent's Erebos, God of the Dead while slowly being drained out. I also would like to make room for the Mirage Mirror. But with both instances, I don't really know what to cut, as anything that is marginal probably helps Daxos' Experience gameplan.
I'm surprised you run a deck with 35 enchantments in it and did not include Replenish and Starfield of Nyx. Replenish triggers constellation like it's nobody's business and Starfield is just good recursion in general (Especially with Planar Collapse as long as your enchantments are not creatures yet). Silent Sentinel, Emeria Shepherd and Treasury Thrull can provide additional recursion.
To add some more resilience to your recursion engine, I would trim back a bit on the non-basics that are not plains and play more plains to more reliably trigger Emeria, the Sky ruin. Caves of Koilos, Cascading Cataracts, Rogue's Passagem Scoured Barrens, and Tainted Field could all be replaced this way. You play only two colors so you don't need that much nonbasics and you run Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth + ways to find it which will turn all your plains into scrublands anyway. And you only run one card (Necorpotence) which costs 3 of the same color under 4 cmc anyway.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
The secret to enjoyable Commander games is not winning first, but losing last.
If my post has no tags, then i posted from my phone.
I haven't included Replenish because of its dollar cost. Way too much for me. I don't use Starfield of Nyx because it would turn my Daxos tokens into 0/0s and also make my Enchantments vulnerable to Creature destruction. The other recursion you put forth cost too much mana. I want to get my Experience as high as possible and then keep pooping out Daxos tokens.
Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker is fairly expensive for something that may deter attackers. Aurification doesn't kill the Creature, meaning that their Activated or Triggered abilities still kick in.
Academy Rector is another expensive card. I don't use Overwhelming Splendor because it feels too unfair. This is one of my more Casual decks where I let my opponents play Magic because my goal is to have a 'fair' game, instead of a competitive match.
While the deck leans White, I actually need a lot of Black because of Daxos' 1WB Activated Ability. Furthermore, I would not get that much of a benefit from Emeria, the Sky Ruin with my 10ish Creatures.
Extinguish All Hope's Nonenchantment Creature clause rarely, if ever, came up. A lot of the time, I don't need a Wrath but more spot removal. While I added Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim for fun, I wanted even more spot removal so that's what I brought back Utter End.
While the deck has Pillowfort elements, it's not the main focus. It's hard to justify an Artifact-based one in an Enchantment deck, so I'm trying out Mirage Mirror in Daxos. It has the most access to big mana and durdles well. While many people say that the Mirror is an auto-include, I think you still need to be a Control deck with access to lots of mana and don't mind spending it on random activations.
Right now my conundrum is Painful Quandary. It's part of the Prison Package yet it has been drawing a lot of hate. I don't know if to accept that the hate is part of the prison, as it and Rule of Law have drawn a lot of ire.
