I only sparingly used SoEpityr, but I still use Augury Owl. He is a nice little gem, scrying three deep is pretty sweet every turn to hit key cards.
Oh cool! Glad you run them too. I had issues with Sea Gate Oracle being a tad too expensive for his slot, and I hope these guys make up for it. The biggest challenge this deck finds, besides Brago getting repeatedly removed, is hitting my land/mana rocks.
This is why I added SFMystic, to grab LGreaves/Whispersilk Cloak. Half the battle is just like you stated, hitting land drops/mana rocks and protecting Brago from removal. If you can, I would proxy SFMystic, she is REALLY good just because she is low cmc and repeatable.
I played some Brago this evening. Still pretty awesome lol. I find it to be a little tedious at times, since my meta is become hostile to Staxx/Prison so I am seeing a lot more artifact/enchantment removal overall, but honestly, that is to be expected. One thing, kinda off topic is perhaps another General would be more apt to Staxx. I know Brago is pretty awesome at Syaxx but the continual problem at times is that Brago often gets countered/removed and since he is the hub of the wheel so to speak, it can become insurmountably more difficult knowing he is the centerpiece and driving cog in the Staxx machine. I know Grand Aribiter, but he just has a terrible reputation, and for what it's worth that matters, because being an immediate target makes Cedh very hostile quickly. I thought about perhaps Hanna, ship's navigator as she is a bit more innocuous, and her recursion ability is quite powerful for Staxx for obvious reasons, and she is low cmc. I tried her IN Brago Staxx but I didn't care for the cursed totem dissynergy, as that was quite annoying lol. Plus, perhaps it might be a bit easier to close out games with Hanna as you can use Luminarch Ascension or some token producers to finish.

It's worth a shot if your meta is so hostile. I disassembled my favorite deck, Daretti, for the same reason.
You can, especially if you can go infinite swing for lethal the following turn.
I have some games like that, where I just cant get Brago out to win. That's why Helm/RiP was added to the deck. I tend to cast Brago either with a super aggressive opening hand, or after the first wave of board wipes hits. Let other players make the first move and get punished.
I was wandering what happened to Daretti. I had that deck together on mtgo and it was super mean = awesome
Yep My meta got so hostile to it, I would be targeted just off the bat, with a hand that was severly mana screwed. Was it unfair and bad play on their part? Yeah, but it wasn't fun anymore.
Got to play two games today and I made some changes. First game I never got off the ground, not finding mana rocks. But land tax helped, nearly got there with RIP+helm, but wasnt fast enough.
Game two, I came out the gate with Trinket mage, sol ring, voltaic key, and just went from there. I only had spreading seas for draw, but managed to find an E tutor and Rishadan minion for the win.
Treachery is one of those fun cards I personally get a ton of enjoyment out of, but when I need to make a competitive deck better, I look at two of three things
Does this make my deck faster/more consistent?
Does this help me achieve my wincons?
The card is too above curve for the deck, and clogs my hand.
Since this definitely fits all three, it can be safely removed. Ghost quarter is different. My meta has less Maze of Ith lately, and for now, I'm gonna test sans Maze. I run so many colorless lands it's tough to make cuts, and I wanna hit my colors, so I cut the weakest colorless land. In addition, since Treachery was cut, Pilgrim can only tutor up Spreading Seas, which while it isn't totally useless, it's slow and subpar. So we put in a placeholder for now, a card that is innocuous and draws us cards.
I really love the 2 drop cards that draw. I don't see much maze of ith, but i always have spreading seas, tsabos web etc lying around in case they pop up again. One little gem I added mainboard is pithing needle. Easily tutored up by trinket mage, resettable after a Brago hit if needed, and cmc 1 makes it ideal. The fact it can really stop a niche card is valuable. A more recent thought was to add storm cauldron. The cost may be too high for Cedh though, but I wanna try it out as an additional way to punish mana sources. I keep trying to make it so there is a TON of redundancy, not only to relieve one or two lock pieces from being leaned upon so heavily, but also so it makes less likely a collapse will occur if removal hits too often. Really, I keep thinking about ways to force players to tap down mana sources, but I want it to be all opponents not just one. Like a Turnabout effect but for all my adversaries. Then I can proceed to drop a Stasis/Winter Orb/Hokori etc. I see you removed Lavinia a while ago. I know she is cmc 5, a lot to be sure, but her ability to shut off opposing mana rocks is amazing when winter orb is out or even after a resolved armageddon. I will be adding RIP+Helm as well, I just wanna win immediately after lockpieces are in place even for a turn.

Oooh Needle. Thank you! I've been looking for something like that. Yeah I can easily put that in here, it's definitely what i want over G-Quarter. I know I dont rely as much on Brago anymore, but having a tutorable answer is what I wanna see.
Cauldron is just a weaker stax effect and it allows opponent's to play around it, or they can use it to make infinite mana with Cabal Coffers. I've been bitten by it too much.
Lavinia was too slow. When she hit, it was great, but I needed Brago out to make her good. I definitely recommend keeping her if she works for ya. I've just been burned by most of my cmc 5+ cards too often.
Ok well, I wanna add Sage back in sometime for testing, but Statuary is a priority. It turns all of our artifacts, the boots, stax effects, etc, all into mana rocks.
Pithing Needle enters, thanks to a helpful suggestion by a fellow MTGsalvation member, as a way to deal with Maze of Ith without resorting to subpar choices. Geddon has never come up as a good play, and it may come back to the deck, but as it stands, we rarely brick and feel like "geddon would help here". We usually combo off or lose before it's relevant. It has the added synergy of being able to be reset by Brago, or hitting a multitude of other problematic permanents.
I have the following on hand as potential replacements for other cards Kismet - To slow opponents down. The mana cost is a little too steep for me however Thought-Knot Seer - A way to deal with other control/combo players to keep them off pieces of hate to stop us. Cost could be prohibitive. Detention Sphere - Right now we are fine on dealing with problem permanents. We will see how that pans out, and if we need more, this will be added. Trophy Mage - To fetch lock pieces Sanctum Prelate - Other players run this, and my meta isnt tuned enough and consistent to know what to use this for yet.
I also want to find these in trades to test Stoneforge Mystic - To replace Steelshaper's Gift. Trinisphere - Another stax piece. Not sure how necessary it is, but Inspiring Statuary makes this a whole ton better. Recruiter of the Guard - Probably my #1 pickup, this card fetches us so many powerful creatures. Reality Acid - Similar to Detention sphere Mystic Gate - I'm mad I traded mine away in 2013 and I havent found one since. We could use the filtering. Mana Web - Finally, a way for us to keep other players tapped down.
Wow congrats! You know, I love stoneforge mystic, she never ever disappoints. I have never to this day removed reality acid, mostly because of its versatility and ability to get around hexproof generals, which I see regularly like narset/geist of st. traft. Even those aside, reality acid is super versatile and gets around SO many things, and it is low cmc at 3. I used to play mana web, and it is quite good, much better than armageddon honestly since it is continuous, and fetchable with trophy mage is a plus. Pithing needle isn't going anywhere.
I dunno if you run countermagic, but I choose to. Mostly because of cyclonic rift. So I am still rocking the force, swan song and counterspell.
Sanctum prelate is awesome but I think she is better suited for decks like Cap Sisay, since you have all the other hate bears to accompany her. Her being adjustable with Brago is a plus, but you have to really have a grasp of what you want to turn off with sanctum prelate.
Cool deck and since I'm planning on building similar Brago list myself, I have couple questions:
Is there anything to sink infinite mana during combat step? If not, is there any reasonable mana sink to add?
I personally try to avoid cards which do nothing beside being part of combo, so is there any other combo options beside RIP + Helm you could think of adding?

Infinite mana? No, you kinda just can generate it. I've considered Goblin Cannon but it's awful outside of that scenario and I have plenty of cards that are like that right now. I've got a copy, and if I see the need, you'll see it in here!
Right now, Helm/RIP is a possibility outside of Brago. With Brago, I use Strionic Resonator and the Rishadan creatures to lock opponents out of the game, usually resulting in conceding. My meta isnt huge on Nature's Claim!
I want to test PO as a way to reset our fast mana and draw a bunch of cards. It can also help save our board in a pinch. Jace has been alright in the few games I've landed him. I've never felt he was anything more than a way to help me dig deeper (which I want Ancestral Knowledge in here to do over Jace) or to bounce problem creatures. Plus with how fragile planeswalkers are in general, he typically doesnt generate a ton of value before being picked off. Tezz 1.0 will always be our #1 walker and the baseline for what we expect.
I agree on Jace unfortunately. In this deck once you're able to protect Jace you are already winning. Fate seal loses its value in multiplayer though brainstorm twice a turn is pretty awesome. I'll have to give PO A spin.

Completely agreed. It's all really neat tools but none of which help a more combo/stax build unless we can keep creatures tapped down. We cant always or easily. Tezz i have no issues going -3 tutor, brago swing, blink him, then -3/-4 and get orders of magnitude more value than Jace going 0 twice or -1 and 0.
I wanna test PO, Thought-knot seer, detention sphere, kismet, trophy mage, and ancestral knowledge really badly still.
It's been a while since an update, but I'm slowly adding more descriptions to my primers in a hope to make the primer seem more appealing and more verbose. I've been quite busy this spring and havent had a chance to play much EDH, and when I have, I've been testing my newer, more casual decks.
This thread is so useful!
Thanks for all the effort you've put in.
I'm Curious what you think of a few cards: Prophetic Prism: my brago deck can usually make an abundance of colorless mana, but the colored mana is always the constraint.
Thought-Knot Seer: win con with strionic resonator. Its fun to exile cards from the biggest threat and then give the cards back to someone else. Potentially diplomatic.
Phyrexian Metamorph: doubles as a mana rock or stax piece. Can be converted into something more valuable later on.
Recruiter of the Gaurd: repeated access to most of your creatures. This is definitely better in a more creature heavy build, or a deck with more hate-bears.
