Oh but I look at Sudden Death as more than good vs blue or combo decks. Look at Krenko for example, you would be able to kill it, and he wouldn't be able to pump out new tokens.
Perhaps the outcome of that game woul've been different.
Same with for example Fauna Shaman or Scavenging Ooze targeting your graveyard. It's also good vs Mother of Runes and the like.
Another good creature, in the line of Crypt Rats would be Bane of the Living.
What decks do you play against, perhaps I could make more suggestions based on that ^^.
If I had had any removal for Krenko it would have changed the results. Sure in that case Sudden Death would have done the trick a bit better than other spot removal but that doesnt change the fact that what if I am stairing down a Consecrated Sphinx and my answer is Sudden Death? Its situational in some cases is kind of what I am going with. I could also consider Bile Blight which could likely do a lot of similar things while also having access to removing a token wave. I am just not really huge on split second as a whole because most of the time its sort of niche situations that they solve while costing more / doing less than non split second cards.
Bane of the Living - ehhhhh I am not huge on the amount of mana involved. I honestly do harass people's life totals too with the Crypt Rat effects. It is kind of equivalent to Thrashing Wumpus but at the same time I can give Thrashing Wumpus lifelink which is kind of a big deal. Kagemaro, First to Suffer has the advantage of being significantly cheaper to use and there is the downside that the Bane of the Living cant really be nicely rezed for another use.
I will try to take a run at the more normal decks in my meta:
Kaseto, Orochi Archmage - a ramp voltron tempo control deck. Alesha, Who Smiles at Death - recursion based deck who loves to entomb for Master of Cruelties and see if you can defend yourself on turn 4. Karlov of the Ghost Council - a newer deck with lots of lifegain and spot removal. It taxes lifetotals sometimes but he primarily tries to push up his life total and have spot removal / a big beater. Mina and Denn, Wildborn - lots of ramp big fatties and draw. The deck is sort of like a slightly slower Azusa, Lost but Seeking with some more surprising explosive wincons. Hazezon Tamar - token swarm. Most of the deck is just mashing haste + a big pump which makes it very hard to combat but sort of predictable at the same time. Titania, Protector of Argoth - land deck. It can be incredibly explosive and he loves going all in which makes it kind of terrifying as he wont hesitate to go all in even just to kill a person. Krenko, Mob Boss - normally he doesn't make this go excessively fast as honestly the deck is normally kind of jank and he packs a lot of sub optimal cards. He has kind of a budget deck and its not combo oriented but it sometimes just super gets there. Daxos the Returned - at least 2 of these in the meta right now. Kind of enchantment control with a late game of token swarm. Sidisi, Brood Tyrant - its kind of a self mill based token deck. Its normally not much of an issue you just have to sweep him now and then. I have been taken out a few times by him mostly because he is left alone most games. Rasputin Dreamweaver - ramp to eldrazi. Its concerning because he can fairly easily have like turn 5 eldrazi with this deck. Its a UW control deck through and through but occasionally he just drops Omniscience and chains his whole deck into play. Talrand, Sky Summoner - its an odd polymorph deck with few creatures and he mostly just flips out eldrazi. Purphoros, God of the Forge - just mashes in tokens and sees if you live. Xenagos, God of Revels - big beefy dudes coming in super jacked.
I would say thats what I see most of the time. Tokens is kind of a normal occurance for which I usually have to plan on at least one deck at every game to be.
Ah you also use the rats to damage your opponents, thought it was only used as a wipe ^^.
With all those token decks have you considered running Massacre Wurm? If not for his etb effect, maybe for his triggered effect.
Also keep posting the game logs, love these!
Yea, the Pestilence effects also give me the option of dropping damaged players. I am kind of half still considering the Blood-Chin Fanatic because it could really work with the Pestilence and just random Korlash beats to kill people.
Massacre Wurm - Its kind of hit and miss for me because it doesnt give a continued token hate effect. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite is so good because she gives that continuous effect. The life loss they would take could possibly be worth considering him but I feel that a stronger removal option is stronger than the life loss offhand. I can give it some more thought but it has never been as good as I have hoped it to be in implementation so far.

if you were running more reanimation, then massacre wurm would be definitely worth it. That being said, you dont have a focus on reanimation hah so i agree on keeping it out of this list as is.
My opener looked just kind of ok. I had 4 lands but of them I had Bojuka Bog and Maze of Ith in hand. I had a Mind Stone though for what it was worth.
T1: Sydri started with a Sol Ring + Signet turn one play. Karlov and I both just played lands. T2: Sydri plays a land, Lightning Greaves + his commander and attacks me for 2 damage. I play a Mind Stone + land. Karlov plays his commander. T3: Sydri plays additional mana stones but runs out of land drops. He attacks me again. I play my Withering Wisps mostly because I have 3 mana up I dont really have anything else to cast. Karlov attacks me as well as playing a loxodon warhammer this turn. T4: Sydri plays a Increasing Ambition but again has no land drop (he goes for a Sword of the Animist which I am unaware of right now) he keeps his commander untapped this turn. I play a Gilded Lotus from hand as well as a land. Karlov goes to drop and equip Loxodon Warhammer and attack but I go ahead and kill both of their commanders now as I have two snow swamps so I can still catch both of them with my Withering Wisps which also dies to this effect but I clear the creatures. T5: Sydri plays his Sword of the Animist but has no creatures. I cant exactly track everything from here forward so I will rough outline...
I think I play a Kagemaro, First to Suffer after both of my opponents play their commanders again and I kill them both.
Sydri drops a Sen Triplets and puts a Lightning Greaves on it. I topdeck an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and shoot it off to kill his lightning greaves + a mana stone. Sydri targets me with his triplets and I reveal a land which he cant cast. I just kind of play my hand as it comes to me for a few turns and Karlov plays a Peacekeeper which keeps my attackers at bay. I have Korlash in play + Ulamog at this point but my Maze of Ith is keeping his equipment from being relevant right now.
Sydri pokes at Karlovs hand a few times and casts some small stuff. More annoying is the point where Karlov does not cast his Cauldron of Souls and Sydri gets it. I topdeck a Demonic Tutor and fetch up a Perilous Vault. We kind of juggle with it in play for about a turn before I pop it off as I end up getting a Victim of Night in hand that I want to be able to cast and keep Sen Triplets from.
Recovering from the mass exile I end up recasting Korlash as a huge 13/13 or something sill. I also do a Sign in Blood into a Solemn Simulacrum. Karlov plays a Sun Titan with no target options lol. I cant remember what Sydri plays offhand.
After a few turns of me swinging and hit or miss hitting I set up a Batterskull on Korlash and start gaining some life. Sydri has resorted to using a fog bank + Soul of New Phyrexia with mana up to protect it and Karlov an Avacyn, Angel of Hope with a lifelink aura on it.
It gets back to my turn and I kill Karlov (who is still over 40 life but dies to 2 hits of my commander) and then I Ashes to Ashes the defense of the Sydri player which kind of seals the deal.
Overall, the game went well. The card draw I saw was just enough to be what I needed to do this game and the early ramp was really nice to have had. I made my land drops and had removal while being able to force Korlash through on my opponents in the end. I dont have any changes lined up for right now other than to just report a fairly good game with Korlash.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
I don't know if you have played this deck in awhile, or even still have it, but the new Yahenni, Undying Partisan has me thinking about my old korlash (long gone) deck. I may have to bring it back with the new commander... There are some differences, but I feel like they would play similarly. I know your list is a lot more control oriented, but the sac outlet on a commander seems good. The indestructible is a lot more relevant than regenerate too, however at the cost of needing ramp up time to get big.
He/she/it has sparked my interest, maybe you as well?

Well, there are some differences between the two
The new one starts off smaller and needs to build up. The protection is stronger on the new one but its also more dependent on your board state. Korlash is stronger and needs less assistance but also doesn't really lend himself to a specific build so the new one sort of resembles more of a Grave Pact style of commander to me. There are some similarities but I am not as interested in the new one as it stands right now. Korlash could come back in the future but I shifted my focus to Gonti for now for mono black. I did enjoy both Toshiro and Korlash as commanders I am just sort of testing the waters with a few things though. For some reason my draw never felt good enough in Korlash so I found myself running out of steam far more often than I felt I should have been with this deck.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
I did a rebuild from the ground up for Korlash. Somewhat recently someone was playing a deck that still had a lot of precon cards in it and they were playing Boompile. I sort of scoffed at it when it was first played but I realized it was very interesting and awkward to play around. The first time the player tried setting it off it failed and on the second time it succeed. Its awkward to play around from the perspective that it has some level of unpredictability. I got to thinking about how it would be really cool to play in Korlash where I could just throw up a regen shield and not really care what the result was.
So I am back, when I was trying to build up my list from scratch I decided to also add Nevinyrral's Disk to the build. I cant say for sure either way on that decision right now but ideally with the heavy wrath build it should be possible to drop it in before it is needed and just kind of sit in play.
I realized that Torpor Orb seems like it fits this build as well. I dont really have much for recursion for it but it could help vs some ETB based decks.
The new version wasnt drastically different from my previous version but I was just a little curious as to what the list would look like when rebuilt from scratch with a few new ideas in mind. I probably could have gone through and just implemented some changes but the list looked different enough when I got done plus it had been long enough since I had touched it that I sort of wanted to rebuild over picking up where I was last. I kept the V2 (previous) in a spoiler on the OP. I guess I can link in my new list here as well.
Well, I am back to Korlash again lol. I really do love his simple yet powerful design. The important thing to do when playing a commander like this is to disrupt opponents plans so here I am back with more disruption plans. I recently moved and I am in a new meta so some of these changes are being made after seeing small portions of what I might be up against moving forward. I have seen more moves for haymaker wins and less control in general so I am moving to a little more hand hate with these changes in an attempt to remove threats from hand and in that way keep them from going out of control on me.
CUTS:
Gonti, Lord of Luxury I like Gonti still a lot when facing fair creature based strategy wins. I think he is good value and a good blocker but I saw a LOT less creatures and the creatures I was seeing rarely went for chip damage or
Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet from the standpoint of continuous creature abuse its good. I am less familiar with what I am walking into though so I want my grave hate to be a little more controllable right now.
Noxious Gearhulk I thought more about this and I dont think its what I need right now. Its too expensive for one shot removal and while the lifegain is nice, overall I think what it brings is probably a little weak for the deck.
Word of Command I am moving to more hand hate and in doing so I felt that this was a little weaker with the more direct hand hate.
Crypt Incursion I am shifting some of my grave hate right now and I need access to some non creature grave hate too. I do love this card though so it could make a return as I get more familiar with the meta.
Silence the Believers I didn't see much for indestructible in this new meta so for now I will put it away as its a little spendy.
Ashes to Ashes putting away some of the indestructible hate for the time being.
Maze of Ith I saw less fair and less voltron so for now I will put this away.
Volrath's Stronghold I am cutting back on my creatures and while there are still a few I could see doing this with, I think on average I only have perhaps 3-4 creatures I would really want to recover with this tool.
1 Swamp I am cutting a single basic for Thespian's Stage which can clone a basic so I really shouldn't notice a loss.
ADDS:
Crook of Condemnation I like the power of this grave hate. I think its fairly robust and its fast acting. Its very strong as it stays in play and it kind of demands spot removal by those abusing graves.
Whip of Erebos I wanted to pick up some lifegain and this felt like a reasonable add. I dont really intend to use it for rez really but there are a few I would consider rezing here.
Bubbling Muck I added a few more X cards so this was just me adding some more ramp.
Mind Twist Some solid hate for one player. I am hesitant to go too far on single player hand hate because it feels like a giant middle finger but still, its darn strong.
Torment of Hailfire this is sort of a sweeper, hand hate, life destroyer. I dont know how it will turn out for certain but if you can get to / past the 10 mana mark it starts really getting interesting. Because this deck is so sweeper intensive I could totally see this being a stronger card. What you really dont want when you cast this card is for opponents to have a lot of permanents / tokens. I haven't seen this card in action yet but I think it will probably be strong here.
Unnerve I like that it hits opponents for a few cards. It might not be huge but we will see. My new meta didnt seem like there was a ton of card draw in every deck so I think I can punish them with even a few card hand hate.
Tasigur's Cruelty just like Unnerve but I suspect I can Delve it to be quite cheap for me since I really dont run grave abuse.
Cabal Conditioning with even just my commander I can make this a discard 4 which will be hard to maintain a hand really with.
Scavenger Grounds just adding a little more grave hate. I like that it is similar mana to my commander's regenerate so I could keep either option up fairly affordably.
Thespian's Stage I felt it was a little more reliable as a second access Cabal Coffers. Vesuva is great for decks trying to abuse the hell out of it but given its a lower priority for me here I think the Stage will still give me access to the basic count I want as I can clone it but I can also clone a coffers or some other utility land as needed.
Like I said, I am making some of these changes as I go into a somewhat unknown meta. I have only played a few games there but so far most of the games I lost were due to haymaker cards from hand. Moving to more hand hate should help me against these types of decks. I will keep my eye on the hand hate cards and keep a few others in consideration depending on how they function. I very deliberately am keeping my graveyard hate effects kind of on the high side especially since most of them are multi function or can draw me another card.

Myojin of Night's Reach comes down and eats my opponents hands still before curve thanks to the gilded lotus.
I keep Karlov off of his two equipment thanks to my Maze of Ith as he accumulates both Loxodon Warhammer + Umazawa's Jitte on his commander.
Sydri drops a Sen Triplets and puts a Lightning Greaves on it. I topdeck an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and shoot it off to kill his lightning greaves + a mana stone. Karlov makes the mistake of attacking with Avacyn and I Mystifying Maze him which will return Avacyn to play tapped.
