I'm trying to figure out now. As far as tokens go though, you can still produce plenty between the enchantment producers. The only ones I don't have you do are Master of the Hunt and Mycoloth, but I just dont own a Master and Mycoloth just always has a target one his head in my metas. Either could be added, but Snake Basket was actually why I spoke up because that I know could combo off easily. I'll get the list to you soon, I wanna make sure it's been refined. The deal with the build is it's an engine. It may take a lot of pieces, but they're all synergistic and work on their own. I cut back more on doubling +1/+1 counters because of how easy it is to wipe board through ways where regeneration can't save you. Most games I'd need to swing alpha strike or voltron it was just late game, and doubling the counters would just be overkill. The idea is to let all the cards to work really will with each other, and get mileage if Mazirek is hated out as well as be able to produce gravestorm without Maz around. You also then get the Lieutenant concept more with Glissa, who can help stall the game til you can get better pieces or the mana needed for Mazirek. And then when you lean artifact heavy and can afford Dross Scorpion and Krark-Clan Ironworks extending for the extra mana becomes much easier. Chromatic Star's wording, as well as some others, lets you still cantrip the rock, but get more mana out of it.
Also, I may've mentioned this but an all star in all builds I've tried is Living Plane. No one wants to boardwipe anymore and your dudes get bigger. Makes combo decks sac lands to edicts, bites removal if need be, gives a slight stax effect (lands can't tap w/o haste when played), has a small window where it can lead to an alpha strike, and is easily removed if need be.
Living Plane (or Nature's Revolt if you can't afford the former) are great cards to prevent people from wrathing. However, there are those who like to watch the world burn and may just wrath everything for the ****s and giggles.
You may be right with the +1/+1 counters doublers being a bit winmore. However, when I get them early game, the game is won very quickly. Many a time have I had Corpsejack Menace in play along with Hardened Scales and cast a mere Smallpox. Mazirek became a very big, Tony Montana sized "cacaroch".
I think I could probably let go of some token produces as well. However, I've found that with just a single turn after Mycoloth comes into play and is not dealt with, the amount of saproling tokens produced my next upkeep is staggering. I'll check to see what can be cut and test it. I could probably cut Primal Vigor since it helps out my opponents as well. There're some other cards that I may mull over to cut to test the cards that I think could make it more artifact oriented. Again, the reason I'm so hesitant to go full artifacts eggs is because the easiest way for infinite gravestorm is Mazirek + creature with persist + sac outlet. It's very straightforward. The eggs are just for acceleration. That being said, if that concept of using eggs to accelerate the deck could be further supported by more artifact-driven engines, that may be the key to the success of a very broken, consistent, synergistic, brutal, and fun Mazirek EDH deck.
I'm very anxious to see your polished deck with more artifact drive. When I get around to prime this for primer evaluation, I'll put your notes on the artifact-driven build (with credit to you as well, clearly).

Well, the thing is, with all the mana rocks and altars+Iron works, you'll play through that much easier than everyone else. This was actually the founding idea for my version of the deck, inspired by Doomblade's Ghave Primer. You also can then play Toxic Deluge after a few Maz procs, which is already an effective board wipe.
As for the quick wins, the thing is Maz stuck those games. When he's hated out, those cards can feel dead. Well, I suppose with Mycoloth and co. not so much, but that with maz controlled out may just leave you durdling long enough to let someone else wins. My issue is just I can't really present too much evidence to provide alternative ideas right now, because I think to do it more control is needed and I don't know what or how much. I'll have the list up Tuesday when I can get my physical cards back, I had it all online but I know I have a big pile of stuff I gathered plus I had changed it up. Either way, if you go primer I'll happily make sure to have a list and proper notes to add. To be perfectly honest, no matter how good he is, his art will keep him forever sleeved up.
Been playing a similar deck for about a week. What do you think of the new Kalitas? Works well with grave pact and archfiend of depravity. Exiles problem creatures and creates a lot of tokens for sacrificing. Built in sacrifice is just a bonus.
If it were to just exile creatures that die, I'd run Leyline of the Void instead. Costs the same, harder to remove, and could be free the first turn. Notwithstanding, it's not a bad a card (have you tested it?), yet I feel it's inefficient and may just take up a slot. I removed way better cards simply to add eggs to the deck so I don't think I have anything to remove for it.

I've had in play a few times and it seems pretty nasty. Exiling the creatures is a bonus to getting the tokens to sacrifice for whatever reason. She can get pretty big on her own as well.
Skullbriar, the Walking Grave's OK but particular creatures that don't really add to the synergy of the deck are things I kinda want to avoid. I have enough difficulty as it is finding space for cards that can go bonkers in the deck. That's what my main focus is at the moment.

I've been testing my own version of Mazirek, and one awesome interaction can be achieved with Bloodspore Thrinax and Primus. With Ashnods Altar in play, you will wipe out the board and have mana to play what ever colorless you need
That is quite the interaction indeed. Bloodspore Thrinax acts like a mono-colored Master Biomancer. I am trying to cut down on the cards that merely provide or multiply +1/+1 counters but this creature helps sacrifice engines to go infinite with cards like Cauldron of Souls.

Prob should have quoted this to clarify what I meant. How does devour/persist work? Does persist trigger before the +1/+1 counter goes on or can you choose trigger order? This could actually be insane cause It combos with the Persist creatures as easily as Maz
I meant does the counter get on the thranax before the creature re-enters. I wasn't sure if when persist triggers it's immediate, meaning that it would return before the Thranax's ability resolves. It was just a matter of can I win if I resolve him with a persist creature and Blood Artist on board

Oh you're talking about saccing persist creature(s) to devour, having persist resolve, and then possibly saccing them again to devour? In that case, the sacced creatures' persist would trigger, but would wait until devour's done. You'd need another sac outlet to win.

Exactly. The thrinax just provides an alternate way for the creatures with persist to enter the battlefield with +1/+1 counters (apart from Mazirek). However, you'd still need a sac outlet to potentially go infinite.

No, I meant just can he do what Maz does. Like if you had this in opening hand, blood artist, a 3 cmc persist and a sac outlet you can win, which has been confirmed. He costs 1 less than Maz at his base cost and in my experience playing the precon, he is a pretty good midrange card. I will def be adding him to the test list.
Played a couple of games against pillow fort and lock down decks. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. Since I retired my Oloro creature-less lockdown pillowfort deck some while ago, I forgot how annoying it could be. Fortunately, there exists cards around these nuisances. So I basically added the following to the deck: Viridian Zealot Caustic Caterpillar Wave of Vitriol.
All have built-in sac triggers for Mazirek. Wave of Vitriol is especially broken here. Sure, it destroys my non-basic lands, mana rocks, and enchantments, but I can recover lands in the form of basics and I just wiped a pillow fort opponent's board. Not only that, but all my creatures just got a bunch of +1/+1 counters. The changes really made the difference. So much so, that I want to find space for Seal of Primordium as well. The swaps I made were: Glissa, the Traitor Primal Vigor Pentavus.
Glissa, the Traitor was surprisingly inefficient, Primal Vigor would end up helping others too much as well (especially token decks), and Pentavus is just another infinite combo piece which is pretty useless when pillow fort / lockdown players have total control of the game.
I'm still on the fence about Glissa because she is a way to recur eggs, after all. But the cut I would make for her is Doubling Season. But that card here is too broken. Though Glissa has been officially cut (for the moment), any suggestions on what to take out if I miss Glissa too much?

Palace Siege would be my cut - neither of it's abilities seem to synergize very much with the rest of the deck in it's current Eggs-centric configuration.

With what has been spoiled so far from Shadows Over Innistrad, I've been loving the investigate mechanic for this deck. However, the cards have not been in Mazirek's color identity. That all changed a little less than 1 hour ago. And daddy like...
An egg each upkeep? Don't mind if I do! I can definitely see this as a game changer. On top of that, it has a built-in tutoring capabilities. Definitely some EDH material!

They're tokens too! This looks like a really exciting set, hopefully we'll get another artifact that can produce them, and given Sorin seems big, maybe some black investigate cards? I have a lot of faith in this set

I definitely have a lot of faith in this set. This should've come after the Tarkir block. This block looks to have a lot of graveyard interaction which is what the Sultai were all about. This block thus has me pumped up for my Sidisi, Brood Tyrant EDH deck, which is why I'm waiting for the complete reveal in order to discuss the set in its entirety. It has me completely pumped for Mazirek as well. Especially this one:
When combined with Phyrexian Altar, it's a sacrificed creature that returns to my hand essentially for free. Though, honestly, I see that creature more for a Shattergang Brothers deck more than anything. It's also another card I want to discuss for my Sidisi thread - particularly the Zombie Build.

I am surprised at the lack of Harvester of Souls and Grim Haruspex, which allow the Vicera seer to turn into draw and enables more fun with all the mana generated.
I like the list a lot it resembles a lot of the Golgari decks I have played with a general to properly support the archetype finally.
Although I don't think I would build it because it resembles Vish Kal a great deal and I hate having decks that share archetypes.

I used to run both of them and other cards that let me draw when creatures would die. However, constant testing proved them to be too slow in the deck. Removing them was actually pretty worse because I lost any draw capabilities. That's where the egg concept came in and it made an epic difference. I can consistently recover eggs and sac and draw whenever needed. This with Mazirek out has been insane which is why I want to also try to incorporate cards with investigate in the deck (depending on how the next block is).
EDIT:
Taking a closer look at your deck, I see you have the pox effects in there. Whoops.
Yeah, I also run Myriad Landscape in there too, lol. I have considered Crucible of Worlds but I would have to test it further now that I have more lands that sacrifice.
I think I'm fine with the lands that I have - any more nonbasic lands and the lands that search for them would be pretty useless.

The Gitrog Monster seems like it was tailor made for this deck. Talk about an amazing card.
I was looking through older cards and found Desolation and Contamination. Both of those seem like great ways to further the Stax theme while also growing your creatures.

You might also want a bunch of lands that sacrifice themselves, other than fetchlands. Like Myriad Landscape, Havenwood Battleground, Hickory Woodlot, Mirrorpool, Petrified Field, and Dust Bowl. If you do, it might be good to include Crucible of Worlds and Life from the Loam.
