I don't think so. I just went to LGS and picked up a bunch of cheap blue cards. I had no idea Swan Song was a bulk rare. I'm going to overlook some stuff (again) and come back with another change before Saturday. I have four very competitive deckshere and just been theorizing first four-five turns of games, priotizing the other deck's counters on Mizz unless another can win. I know it obv isnt as good as real games, but all of my decks explode by t4 so theyre good ways to measure Mizz. Right now it feels a turn slower than Sharuum/Doom's Tasigur list just because the leader has to resolve in the middle of the plan as opposed to not or all or as the final nail in the coffin. It can counter the easiest, but ramps slower than sharuum and doesn't have quite as many Plan B options as Doom's list. But we're a new list. And learning.
Played the deck (with a couple changes) last night for the first time and easily got to a storm count of 27 in turn 6 and killed the table. This deck needs a candelabra and a timetiwster. Grapeshot was a letdown, I took it out.
Today I tested the deck in another multiplayers game, we played Two-Headed Giant and 5 players free fight.
In the Two-Headed Giant EDH game, I accompanied with Animar against Marath with Tasigur. I have to say although Animar is nearly a tier 1 deck, we lose the game very quickly and the process is almost choking. With Marath the canon tower on field, my Mizzix has almost no chance to stay on board for one turn, never to say my critical spells are all countered by Tasigur... You could wait, but Marath has so many threads forcing u to use your precious spells so sometimes even I could resolve my commander, there's nothing left in hand to accumulate any experience counters. honestly to say, in the whole game the only card I am dreaming of is Lightning Greaves, Lightning Greaves and more Lightning Greaves. I have to say when facing such aggressive commanders, Mizzix could have big trouble.
In the 5 players free fight. Mizzix can win some games, if she escaped from other players concerns. but she is very fragile against removal spells. Her wincon should have subtle luck included.
Never rely on your commander. There have been storm decks before Mizzix, maybe adjust your card choices if you have trouble to get going without him.
This. That is why I'm trying to change the deck in the ways that I am. Also, Marath is a bit of a niche leader. I built my brother a very powerful Enchantress/stax build but hes changed over to animar. It can hit certain leaders really hard, but can't do much to other powerful ones. Not only that but 2hg is a different game entirely and I doubt I would use Mizzix in 2hg, or at least not this list since its proactive instead of interactive. The path probably wouldve been to protect Animar. Even with booties, there's plenty of time to respond. Unless it's some dual mono green co-op ramp I usually team up with a very counter heavy mono blue or edric list. It's an entirely different world.

Ya, I decided against Grapeshot for now, but that is subject to change because I know I'll be going home to stuff like Animar and Momir Vig. Candelabra and Twister are on my list to buy. I guess I have to take a break from collecting the expeditions. Thank god most of my family understands all I want for holidays is cardboard.
For the untap, Hidden strings? Better than Snap because no creature is needed.
Great after High Tide, great for a Gilded Lotus...
Next, do we have the guts to play Meditate?
What about Cunning Wish? If we copy that, we could play 3 High Tides for example...we could also put all the cards we need in there, Turnabout, Counters, Card Draw and Win Con.
You know I almost got Hidden Strings for that exact reason. Ill have to snag one next time. I currently dont do sideboards, so I dont think it's a viable option. However if it is someday, Ill run it in every deck

I replaced Capsize with Hidden Strings as a placeholder for Candelabra of Tawnos.
So the next cut is fairly easy.
Yeah, it actually also fits into the Reiterate infinite storm idea, which is why I cut Snap, the needing a creature clause was lame. No instant speed isn't that bad. I'll have to look for one when I go home Friday. Let me know if it ever comes up in games.
Thanks for the thread! I've been watching this one closely since I started building Mizzix. I'm missing some of the money cards to make this ideal ( namely Mana Crypt and Candelabra of Tawnos ... though a Volcanic Island would be quite nice, too ).
Given all the artifact synergy/recursion here, is Memory Jar worth looking into? It's another sorta-wheel effect, and a recurring with Academy Ruins? What about bolt for being able to fetch Reiterate/Reset or Reality Spasm/Lightning Bolt and being able to off the table with one search?

I think I have too many 5 drops right now. I'd like to test the new ideas first before that but I will put Memory Jar on the test list. When I change it up and give a new update on list I'll include a list of test cards/whats been cut so people can fill in what they can't afford. It started a lot more budget and fun oriented, but honestly my lists never stay that way for long. the Lightning Bolt idea does sound neat so ill put that aside too.
As for how competitive this deck is, it can win turn 4 but not as reliable as my other lists. I'm hoping more playing can fix that.
I actually cut the MLD from my testing list because often you just win the same turn anyway.
Been loving my playtesting and oddly enough even with all the counters I throw in I've cut things like counterspell and mana drain because having things for 1 blue is so much better than two. I'll probably put mana drain back in once I throw this into my playgroup though
Current VIP's
Mind's Desire
Volcanic vision
Spelltwine
Shattering pulse
Spell burst
Turnabout
Wheels
Tezzeret's Gambit
Tezzeret/Teferi/and Ral Zarek of all people
Mizzix's Mastery
I'm probably going to mod the deck further once I assemble all the cards in real life but working off High tide + untap effects means that I will likely throw candelabra and voltaic key and like all of the copy artifact things. Works well for caged sun too.
EVER CAST 89 SPELLS IN ONE TURN?!!?!
Yes, thanks to Bob the Funny's izzet masterwork.
A lot of the ideas here have been discussed in that thread if you'd like to take a look.
Weigo on a scale of one to ten how competitive is your build? The meta I play in doesn't seem to be worrying about a turn 4-6 kill
To be super competitive you'll have to add black to this build.
I disagree. It might be able to tutor more, but I think this can get up there, it's just a matter of how. I can see myself doing it down the road though.
It's an old thread and hasn't had a lot of updates lately, but it's classic Izzet - and the new Izzet commander is perfect for it.
For reference, I expanded to green for a RUG spellslinger build (posted below). Keep in mind, that an artifact ramp package is perfectly viable and very competitive, so the green isn't necessary (though Rude Awakening and all the return to hand from yard effects + Recycle make it attractive).
Current fun (usually wins on turn 4 - 6, no infinite combos) RUG Spellslinger:
It looks like you guys have different methods for reach storm. I really want to keep the High Tide idea strong which make skew card choices. I'm still scanning it for some ideas though.
Updated list. It was my birthday so I'm a little buzzed. I can't remember exact changes and I think there was more than this but I know the biggest focus was
OUT: Caged Sun never needed to cast it or didnt get it when I want it. Since it didnt pull a lot of weight, I wanna bench it for now just because it doesn't seem too hot right now. However, I think at face value it looks pretty good for when I can't keep mizz on board
Treasonous Ogre same as Caged Sun. Same with how I feel he'd work with Mizz stuck in command zone.
Flow of Ideas cutting the commander specifics for the greater part. Sad because the cool Ravnica art in foil came the other day.
I forget everything else, but what's on the list now is what I have sleeved right now. Testing this Friday still and the group coming is expanding. Should get in some games with a few different leaders.
Hi, ive been following the thread from afar and I like the direction you have taken. I'm building my version to be a little less competitive. My play group is a bunch of good players that are looking to have more fun with the games. I was just curious; do you find your land count to be too low?
Not really, I like low counts like this because of draw. However, I may review some things and allow for a few more cheaper draw spells, as well as the other 0 cmc rocks, but if more than one rock goes in I will probably replace a mountain with one. Sulfur Falls will also be replaced with the UR tango land when it gets released. Only having one mountainIsland to tutor really sucks.
