You want a creature heavy deck. If you do, I would suggest playing another commander.
Or there is the possibility to play him zombie tribal ^^.
You don't like artifact mana ramp.
You see a lot of red decks in your playgroup. Blasphemous Act will devastate you if you don't have a counterspell to protect him.
-
What do the colors offer us?:
Blue: Draw, counters, stealing creatures or cloning them, extra turns
Black: Removal, draw (at a cost), life drain spells
His abilities:
"If damage would be dealt to Dralnu, sacrifice that many permanents instead."
Ok, so the first ability doesn't look very good. If you're playing against a red deck, they can seriously hurt you.
Even though you're a lich, a well aimed Earthquake or Magmaquake will shatter you beyond repair.
It's always good to have a way to protect him: bounce, sacrifice/kill or some form of equipment (eg. Magebane Armor).
Besides this, it's also not very smart to block with him... Because of the previous statement.
" : Target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard has flashback until end of turn.
Its flashback cost becomes equal to its mana cost as you play it."
Use and re-use!
How are you planning to win?
I try to stay away from infinite combo's. I know you can easily produce infinite mana and Exsanguinate the whole table, or Goblin Cannon, or w/e.
But that's not really how I like to win my games. Therefore some other combinations/cards that can win me the game ^^.
The deck has a couple of possible win conditions...
Hey, so I am building a Dralnu, Lich Lord deck as well and want to know how certain cards are holding up:
River Kelpie-Is it good or is it just win more? Foresee-Would Fact or Fiction be better? Barter in Blood-Would the lack of creatures in the deck just result in you sacrificing your general? Eyeblight's Ending-Wouldn't Murder be more efficient, or is the double black casting cost an issue?
How are the delve cards working?
In your play testing, how are the following, since they seem to not synergies with the deck too well:
Well I've taken the deck appart, the play style wasn't really my thing. I think Tasigur might be more fit for me.
But here's what I think...
You make very very valid points!
- River Kelpie will draw you lots of card if you see yourself playing flashback alot. If your commander gets targeted alot, you will need to recast him, and the flashback will be alot less interesting. It might be more useful to play something like Jace's Ingenuity or Fact or Fiction.
River Kelpie is more a long time investment where direct card draw like Jace's Ingenuity will give you instant result.
- I like Foresee because of the scry ability. I dislike that it's on sorcery speed. Fact or Fiction might be the better card, but if you're looking for more card draw and have an available slot, try to run it and see what you think ^^.
In my list I was actually running them both, but it seems that I didn't complete updated my deck on here.
- Barter in Blood is here to deal with those pesky indestructible creatures (eldrazi, gods), you better play it if your general isn't on the board :P. But once again you're right, this depends on your meta if you see alot of indestructible creatures or not. If you're not target removal is alot better.
- I would actually run Hero's Downfall over Eyeblight's Ending or Murder. Double black isn't really an issue for the deck since you're only playing two colors.
Eyeblight is just what I had laying around ;). I like them both to be honest ^^.
The cards you mentioned that don't go well with my strategy are actually win conditions.
The other win condition in the deck is (Doomsday - Hellcarver Demon and Laboratory Maniac)
Aetherling - Geth - (Wrexial) - Corrupted Conscience
Murder of Crows and Stinkweed Imp are here to discard/dredge. It will get spells in your graveyard quicker so you can activate them with Dralnu.
Use your graveyard as a tool!
Pilgrim's Eye is there just for the mana ramp, but if you have a Solemn Simulacrum it would be a solid upgrade.
