Hey Action, love the deck! I decided to build a version for myself in paper, but I'm taking a little bit of a different approach in that I'm using Tymna the Weaver+Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa as my general pair. I decided that having a phyrexian arena in the command zone was really useful and Sidar allows the majority of the bears to get through. They are by no means essential to the deck, but they certainly get the engines rolling.
I'm on a bit of a budget, though I had quite a few of some of the pricey-ish cards, but I certainly can't afford a living plane.
Anyway I wanted to post my list for critiques/criticisms and to offer my perspective. I've only gotten 7-10 games in and still need to acquire some cards, but I'm eager to hear what you, and the rest of the thread think.
Thank you for the kind words, and I love new hatebear builds. Welcome to the community.
You've got Grand Abolisher x2.
Since you're running Linvala, try Nature's Revolt - while it is strictly worse, it's much cheaper.
Not a huge fan of Kataki, War's Wage - unless you've got a heavy artifact deck around.
It makes sense to not run the sword packages, but Sword of Body and Mind isn't the best choice. Mask of Memory doesn't have stats or protection but is pretty good if you're attacking often.
Also, the main deck is going through some slight revision with Hour of Devastation. I launched a new deck and finished most of the new graphics for the primer. I hope to finish the write-up sometime this summer, Thanks for all the help everyone and look forward to the new ideas people come up with
Thanks for the grand abolisher pointer. I must have something missing then.
As for nature's revolt, I like it and I think I'm going to pick up a copy. I even think with sidar in the command zone it can be a wincon off of surprise damage. My only concern is that it's not super tutorable. I don't want to draw the wrong half at the wrong time. Any suggestions there?
As for the sword, it's the only one I own and I'm hurting for cash right now. Do you think it's even worth running or should I just find a new card. I've had it in hand and not cast it with some amount of frequency.
I like beast within because it's able to hit creatures but I'm trying to keep my one-for-one removal as versitle as possible. That being said, nature's claim seems solid. I've loved golgari charm for its versitility so I think it'll stay.
I love the wrath suggestions. I'm going to keep an eye out for those cards.
I definitely don't hate the idea of shriekmaw. But I don't run haruapex as I haven't really seen value with her in the past at 3 mana. Since I've got tymna in the command zone I haven't had much of a problem keeping my hand full unless she's dealt with early.
Enlightened Tutor is fairly inexpensive when I last checked, and the 2/2 lands do have synergy with Sidar. If you do inevitably get Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite they'll be 4/4's and it'll still kill all of their 2/2's.
I don't think you should run equipment if you're not running Stoneforge and the good swords. In my opinion that is the only way to do it correctly, and Stoneforge ability bypasses the taxation and Eidolon of Rhetoric.
Beast Within hits lands and Planeswalkers, it is worth running above almost any other type of removal because of that flexibility.
I would for sure, only you don't get to draw anything. I'd consider Sensei's Divining Top before Mirri's I think. library has the downside of asking you to draw those cards, you take a super beating from Nekusar style decks. And even our own deck can shut off our Library. Top is resilient and it functions similarly to Mirri's.
Ive been playing Anafenza, the Foremost on mtgo and i usually win multiplayer games (with my list, looking for improvements) but 1v1 is a little tougher. Would you use this same list for 1v1 or have any recommended changes?
I'm thinking that Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist might earn a spot in the deck. She lets us attack with impunity and provides defense against aggressive decks in the meantime.

I agree. She fits right into the plan of turning weak things sideways and pillowforting. She wears equipment well also. I dig it.
Have you found a spot for Mirri yet? Also, have Dosan the Falling Leaf or Defense Grod ever been in the 99? There is a new blue control deck that has popped up in my meta and wondered if anyone had any experience with some anti control cards

[tab[Multiplayer control is mostly meta dependent... My meta tends to hate them out when they rear their heads... To the point that we start breaking out infect. IF control is an issue, I would say to break out everything that you can think of (either G 's U hate cards or the stuff that you mentioned already. make it so that the blue control deck knows that they won't have a fun day.
You can run stuff like Choke to hurt them, and you can get some mileage out of Prowling Serpopard in some cases. It depends on the type of deck it is. Dosan the Falling Leaf is extremely dangerous unless you've got a reliable way to sac it, because if someone is going off on their turn no one can answer it.
Mirri and Commander 2017 set review are a work in progress, but I am trying to push them out before Ixalan
I absolutely love this deck. It's fun to may someone pay 4 for a sol ring. Are you going to update a review of the card in commander 2017 and ixalan?
Thank you for the compliments. I secretly updated the list to include Mirri, but I've been dragging my feet on my set reviews. I wanted Commander 2017 before Ixalan, but haven't had the chance yet. I'll get there though.
Any plans for Growing Rites of Itlamaoc? My meta doesn't have a lot of blue so I cut Carpet of Flowers for Mirri, but Sandtum Prelate can probably go as well. I'm a little concerned about casting Rites with tax effects in play, but digging for a creature along with the potential mana it can produce seems worth it.

Tocatli Honor Guard on the other hand is interesting at very least, if not for hurting my nemesis Prossh. And Deadeye Tracker has fallen on my radar, however Scavenging Ooze is practically the only thing protecting my life total, but the card quality is very appealing.
Any updates from Rivals of Ixalan? Love the deck btw
I haven't studied it very elaborately, but my first instinct is "no" there is no new cards from Rivals. I finally did catch up to Ixalan however. It's becoming more and more likely that Dominaria is my last set review for this primer.
I too love this deck but rarely play anymore. And when I do it's not for very long. The Commander landscape has also shifted greatly towards EDHREC and other content, and there hasn't been much traction on this primer. I will continue to update it periodically and answer questions but this is likely the final year

Review of a spoiled Dominaria card =
Undoubted autoinclude
Damping Sphere: We're playing this. No doubt about it. It hurts greedy big mana decks and the newest addition to my meta: a Shu Yun spellslinger deck. It a hate card from top to bottom with a low converted mana cost. Check back when Dominaria is released for the official deck changes.
I think that Shalai, Voice of Plenty is worthy of an include. She protects you and all your creatures, and she helps the go-wide plan by being a Gavony Township as well.

I like it, I'm just having trouble making cuts. I think that single target removal isn't really the most pressing matter, cutting W, running no Planeswalkers and 4 cmc are big deals too. I did get a copy to fool around with, but similar to Aegis of the Gods, Leyline of Sanctity and Sigarda, Heron's Grace were all in the deck at one point.
Sure, but Shalai is all of them in one, plus the Township ability. I'm trying her out in the place of Vryn Wingmire. The tax plan is already somewhat diluted, may as well knock it down even more.
I think you have 19 cards which trigger Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle. I think the weakest part of the deck is running against mass creature removal, so recursion is probably the one of the key ways to actually grind opponents out, which is clearly what this deck plan is.
I'm sure you've had to explain why Sol Ring and Mana Crypt are not in the deck a million times, but it does just seem incorrect when you have your own tax cards. I mean you want to be playing a first turn tax card, and then have the means to navigate around it. In decks where I don't play these cards it's because I also run Stony Silence and Null Rod. Because you have an equipment package, you can't run these, so you might as well have the artifact mana.
Remove
- Solemnity
- Hallowed Moonlight
- Peacekeeper - seems like your way of winning is turning creature sideways, but I get it you can wait to not pay for it. However most competitive decks are not attacking anyway, so this card just seems like it's included against fair decks.
- Athreos, God of Passage - seems a bit unreliable with opponents having 40 life.
- Leonin Arbiter - without the Aether Vial flash trick, and your deck diluted on actual tax, seems below average, especially with your own tutors.
Well too be honest, I'd take out the whole equipment package and run Stony Silence and Null Rod, and put in an Armageddon if I was going for the most competitive build, but you've probably already been down that road and wanting to try some variance.
I like all the effort gone into this primer and your presentation gave me ideas for ways to present my deck lists, so I thought I'd thank you by doing an animated card, which you can use if you wanted. The animation is off the Khans of Tarkir Trailer.
Wow. Thank you for the animated card, I will definitely work it in somewhere soon. Lots of the decks card inclusions are based around other decks I have. For that reason Sol Ring and Mana Crypt are in my Shu Yun Storm deck, and I don't like repeats when Magic has so many good cards and they're better off in that deck. I also do some things for competitive balance (like excluding Academy Rector). I know a lot of the most competitive decks run U and Protean Hulk and are hyper efficient. I often think about dumping the Equipment package as it will free up many spots and there are so many good cards worth playing, it's frustrating. I will ponder your recommendations for sure and look forward to seeing your list.

Not a big fan of Growing Rites of Itlimoc, even though I do like the improved Gaea's Cradle, it would be easier to achieve in a dedicated token deck or any build of Prossh, Skyraider of Kher. It's got too many factors involved in making it flip, and Gift of the Gargantuan doesn't have me excited.
Tocatli Honor Guard on the other hand is interesting at very least, if not for hurting my nemesis Prossh. And Deadeye Tracker has fallen on my radar, however Scavenging Ooze is practically the only thing protecting my life total, but the card quality is very appealing.

I personally would run Captain Sisay in your 99. It just gives you access to whatever you need to control the game at the time. Often just getting lands at first, Gaea's Cradle, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Volrath's Stronghold.
Solemnity and Meren of Clan Nel Toth are a nonbo.
So the changes I would make if I was to build the deck would be:
Add
+ Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle
+ Captain Sisay
+ Sol Ring
+ Mana Crypt
+ Winter Orb
