This deck is super fun. I never thought I would like a Red deck, it's always my least favorite color because of how linear R can be. This deck is different and with the new tuck rules is even more fun than ever! Highly recommend Daretti!
The current build runs a lot of mana rocks to power out Daretti, Scrap Savant and filter through cards in order to put a threat out quickly. Cheap recursion creatures provide utility and protect Daretti, Silent Arbiter is an all-star. Typically I just build up a lot of value and board presence through things like Myr Battlesphere and then slowly edge out the win. The deck can have a little trouble closing games out, however.
Changes 12/27/12:
- Fire Diamond Had enough ramp already. Don't like CITP rocks much.
+ Word of Seizing Was strongly recommended for Split-Second/versatility.
Changes 12/29/12:
- Torpor Orb I don't really want to be the guy who packs preemptive hate... Just not really a card consistent with my thoughts about EDH.
+ Ring of Three Wishes Worried it's too expensive, but I'll give it a try anyway, I think it could be fun!
Changes 3/1/15:
- Mountain
- Reliquary Tower I don't have that much draw in the deck and it's a bit of a nonbo with all my gy shenanigans, I often want to discard to hand size.
- Prototype Portal Sometimes I copied a Sol Ring and made a billion mana. Sometimes I 2 for 1ed myself. Meh.
- Contagion Engine Proliferation just didn't work as well as I wanted. Also expensive.
- Contagion Clasp Ditto above except cheaper.
- The Chain Veil Dead card if I can't protect Daretti.
- Lux Cannon With the proliferation stuff gone this doesn't do much.
- Vedalken Orrery I was surprised how unimportant this was. Never did much at all, actually.
+ Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle 3 repeatable damage is always nice.
+ Thespian's Stage 6 repeatable damage is even nicer!
+ Voltaic Key Ramps sometimes, utility other times. Cheap. Sac fodder in the late game.
+ Scuttling Doom Engine I'm hesitant to add another big beater but I want to try him out.
+ Darksteel Ingot Still feel like I need more ramp. Maybe I need to lower my curve.
+ Silent Arbiter Daretti protection - I really like Ult'ing him!
+ Clock of Omens More untap is good.
+ Mind's Eye Splurged on this because I've really been wanting it for a while. Awesome draw power!
Changes 3/1/15:
- Darksteel Juggernaut I like having things that can actually protect Daretti for most of the game...
- Word of Seizing Wasn't ever impressed with this. It's really expensive too...
- Claws of Gix New tuck rules make this unnecessary. I already have enough sac outlets.
- Blasted Landscape Decided I would rather have the Mountain.
- Liquimetal Coating Too cute, no board impact.
- Deal Broker Coming down for three is a lot worse than for two...
- Impact Resonance Too conditional, often sat in my hand.
+ Goblin Matron I just love Goblin Welder. One of my favorite cards!
+ Soul of New Phyrexia Big beater, added graveyard utility. Trying it out
+ Fire Diamond All the ramp! Getting Daretti up and running early is crucial.
+ Mountain Those R sources...
+ Tormenting Voice Smooths out draws and puts big stuff in the graveyard early.
+ Ugin's Nexus No real abusive extra turns in my meta, but it's cool and I want to try it!
+ Torpor Orb Not sure how I feel about this one. I'm conflicted because it kinda kills a certain deck's fun, on the other hand it abusing ETB effects is something I should guard against. I'll give it a try.
Changes 4/5/15:
- Pentavus I like it but it takes a bit of mana to turn it into Pentavites and then sac/recur.
- Mindless Automaton Just not impactful. Is a discard outlet but Daretti already does that better. Can draw cards but the rate isn't great. Costs 4? I was just never pleased to see him in my hand.
- Stalking Vengeance Really expensive for what he does, never felt worth it.
- Shimmer Myr I'm surprised by how infrequently I want to flash things in. Seems like it should be better than it has turned out.
- Wild Ricochet I really thought this would be better but it's just never done what I want.
+ Liquimetal Coating Used to be in but I felt like it didn't do a whole lot. I'm giving it another try because so often I wish I could turn something into an artifact to sac/recur it.
+ Tormod's Crypt My meta is GY heavy, I think this will be worth it.
+ Hammer of Purphoros Lack of haste makes Goblin Welder more vulnerable than I would like. I'm not positive that this will be good because this is not an aggro build but I want to try it out. Turning lands into artifact golems useful.
- Liquimetal Coating I've gone back and forth, but I'm sure now. No good.
+ All is Dust Thank you MM15 for lowering the price of this one!
Changes 8/16/15:
- Bosh, Iron Golem Decent P/T, trample, sac outlet and can take opponents out from nowhere, but it's really expensive and usually didn't do what I wanted.
+ Karn, Silver Golem Three mana cheaper and an excellent defender for Daretti. Also provides a lot of reach in the late game.
Changes 8/30/15:
- Haunted Fengraf A bit expensive to give me a random dork. Just never seemed like what I wanted to do.
- Dualcaster Mage Good sometimes, not others. I feel like it could really shine in a different deck but this isn't the right place for it.
+ Eye of Ugin Traded for a copy. Expensive, but I have some nice colorless creatures to search up
+ Alhammarret's Archive Traded for one of the cards I was most excited about in Origins - Super sweet with Daretti.
Changes 12/05/15:
- Myr Turbine Slow and clunky. Never tutored so it was basically 5 mana +1 myr/turn.
- Ring of Three Wishes Very expensive and a bit of a win-more card.
- Swiftfoot Boots Equip 1>0
- Tomb of the Spirit Dragon In order to gain life you have to have a board. If you have a board it's pretty rare that you need to gain life.
- Worn Powerstone I'm not a fan of CIPT manarocks because they don't "refund" your investment.
- Fellwar Stone Often only taps for colorless. (Also has an ugly white border!)
+ Duplicant Awesome, recurrable exile removal. Finally traded for one.
+ Scarecrone Yay Pucatrade! Awesome recursion and even "cycles" itself.
+ Lightning Greaves Equip 1<0
+ High Market Sometimes you just need a sac outlet.
+ Hedron Archive "refunds" itself and even draws me two cards when it has outlived its usefulness.
+ Thought Vessel Daretti himself is a great discard outlet, I rarely want to discard to hand size in order to stock my grave.
Changes 2/6/16:
- Eye of Ugin Cashed in on all this Modern Eldrazi hype...
- Caged Sun Expensive, generally I just want to get Daretti out early.
- Mindless Automaton Just not impactful. Is a discard outlet but Daretti already does that better. Can draw cards but the rate isn't great. Costs 4? I was just never pleased to see him in my hand.
Also, just played my Roon of the Hidden Realm against a similar Daretti build and saw how necessary Torpor Orb was; without it I would have crushed Daretti. I'm looking to run some tutors to grab Torpor Orb and probably some GY hate like Tormod's Crypt. Any recommendations that could grab either of them?
so it may be just me, however Goblin Matron does not seem like it has alot of targets and may be a weaker card in the deck. I am not playing the list in your meta however so I could be missing some key point to running it. While being able to search out goblin welder is nice I can't help but feel you could be playing a more useful card possibly another form of removal if you have issues with permanents or more cards that provide long term value with your deck's individual strategy.
Could see cutting Goblin Matron. She's definitely in there mostly for Goblin Welder - he's just so good. Has been a dead draw once when I had both goblins out, but that's pretty rare. I'll keep an eye on her.
I'm really struggling to find a way to tutor for artifacts 2 CMC or less (Torpor Orb, Tormod's Crypt). Gamble is expensive, is that my only option? I dislike tutoring for game-enders in commander but I really like having an out or two for any given strategy.

I notice a distinct lack of Hellkite Tyrant in this list. 20 is not nearly as hard to hit as it sounds. Particularly with Myr Battlesphere and Pentavus.
Most of the expensive cards I have I traded for (Ugin, the Spirit Dragon), much of it was from the precon decklist or I pulled in draft, and then I usually get one new toy every few months to keep it feeling fresh. I probably only spent $5 actual money on this deck over the last three months?
I notice a distinct lack of Hellkite Tyrant in this list. 20 is not nearly as hard to hit as it sounds. Particularly with Myr Battlesphere and Pentavus.
Hadn't really thought about it. I might consider adding it, but I'm not sure that's really how I want to win, it doesn't sound particularly fun. But I'll consider it - thanks for the suggestion!
Go for it! It might stay on my long term list for a while, I typically won't pay more than $5 for a single unless it's amazing. But if I see it in a trade binder sometime I'm always in I love playing Daretti, he deserves some love
I'm not entirely sure you need anything more than Unwinding Clock, but I'll leave that to you. It's the only untap I run.
Draw:
-Skullclamp
-Reforge the Soul
+Memory Jar
+Wheel of Fortune
Wheel is far superior to Reforge in my opinion, even with the Miracle cost. Skullclamp really isn't that great in this build. Memory Jar lets you did further, adds fuel to your graveyard, and is pseudo-mill for your opponents.
Recursion:
-Myr Retriever
-Junk Diver
-Feldon of the Third Path
-Arcbound Reclaimer
-Kuldotha Phoenix
+Scarecrone
+Recoup
You don't need too much recursion, as Welder and Daretti will do it well enough. Scarecrone will get back your artifact creatures, and doubles as card draw. Recoup is amazing. Second and possibly third Wheel/Mastery/Removal/etc.
Tutor:
-Goblin Matron
-Myr Turbine
-Hoarding Dragon
+Gamble
Goblin Matron isn't very good, imo. Only gets you two things, which you can honestly live without if need be. My Turbine is kinda iffy, as it does give you lots of sac fodder and some attack/defense, but never really worked for me. Hoarding Dragon is just terrible. If you search up something you really need, he will most likely be 2-for-1'd. Gamble is far superior.
Big Stuff:
-Bosh, Iron Golem
+Blightsteel Colossus
I just don't like Bosh. And Blightsteel is another win condition.
+Mountain
+Haven of the Spirit Dragon
+Maze of Ith
+Ancient Tomb
+Inkmoth Nexus
That leaves 10 available slots, and here is what I suggest to put in:
1) Squee, Goblin Nabob - Essentially Daretti's +2 is Discard X, Draw X+1
2) Karn, Silver Golem - Good blocker, and an combo with another suggestion down the list.
3) Duplicant - Repeatable creature exile.
4) Thopter Assembly - This thing can become a beast. Flyers with total 10-power? Yes, please!
5) Staff of Domination - This plus basalt/rings or metalworker/3 artifacts lets you go inifinte.
6) Mindslaver - Another win condition if you can slaver lock people.
7) Mycosynth Lattice - Combos with Karn to turn into 1-cost land removal. Also with Daretti's emblem and scrap mastery, is a one-sided board wipe.
8) Vandalblast - This and Lattice usually ends the game.
9) Comet Storm - Another win condition when you can go infinite mana.
10) Blood Moon - Won't hurt you as much as it will others.
Now, these next few I'm not saying are necessary, as they are pricey, but will take the deck to a whole new level.
1) Imperial Recruiter - The best creature tutor you can get for red.
2) Mana Crypt - Best mana rock hands down. Enables possible turn 1 Daretti.
3) Gauntlet of Might - More ramp that is faster to get out than Caged Sun.
4) Karn Liberated - Good removal, and can be a win condition if you an ultimate him after you exile a Blightsteel with him.
5) Strip Mine/Wasteland - Better land destruction.
6) Fetches - These are pretty good to have in general. Can combo with Rings to get two lands.
7) Crucible of Worlds - Only run if you do fetches and/or Strip/Wasteland.
You can take a look at my list in my sig to see what I run. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
The two best card draw cards for daretti don't look like card draw at all: squee, goblin nabob and crucible of worlds. Both let you discard to daretti and bring cards back. Squee is nice with skullclamp too.
I'm not entirely sure you need anything more than Unwinding Clock, but I'll leave that to you. It's the only untap I run.
I could definitely see cutting Clock of Omens, I kind of like Voltaic Key because it's a relatively new addition and I haven't fully seen it in action yet. I like how flexible it is, but I could see cutting it in the future.
Wheel is far superior to Reforge in my opinion, even with the Miracle cost. Skullclamp really isn't that great in this build. Memory Jar lets you did further, adds fuel to your graveyard, and is pseudo-mill for your opponents.
Memory Jar and Wheel of Fortune I would definitely add if I found a copy to trade for! I'm sure I'll see one around eventually.
-Myr Retriever
-Junk Diver
-Feldon of the Third Path
-Arcbound Reclaimer
-Kuldotha Phoenix
+Scarecrone
+Recoup
You don't need too much recursion, as Welder and Daretti will do it well enough. Scarecrone will get back your artifact creatures, and doubles as card draw. Recoup is amazing. Second and possibly third Wheel/Mastery/Removal/etc.
Yeah, I want Scarecrone pretty badly... so good! Definitely looking for him. Recoup is a good suggestion too if I end up with Wheel of Fate, do you think its worth it as is? I only run about two sorceries I would actually care to have back.
You don't really need to much copying, and Rings is far superior to Kurkesh, cuz it can copy Walkers and fetches if you run them.
Rings of Brighthearth would be awesome, I'm sad that I missed picking up one before the spike... Stupid Tiny Leaders. Wild Ricochet is out as soon as my copy of Tormod's Crypt comes - there's a lot of GY abuse in my meta, I think it's worth it. Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient, Sculpting Steel, and Dualcaster Mage have performed pretty well for me but I could definitely see cutting them in the future, especially Mage which is pretty swingy.
+Mountain
+Haven of the Spirit Dragon
+Maze of Ith
+Ancient Tomb
+Inkmoth Nexus]
Not a fan of the cycling lands? Kher Keep is out for Haven of the Spirit Dragon which I just got a copy of. Your other suggestions are on the "to acquire" list!
That leaves 10 available slots, and here is what I suggest to put in:
1) Squee, Goblin Nabob - Essentially Daretti's +2 is Discard X, Draw X+1
2) Karn, Silver Golem - Good blocker, and an combo with another suggestion down the list.

9) Comet Storm - Another win condition when you can go infinite mana.
10) Blood Moon - Won't hurt you as much as it will others.
Mindslaver, Mycosynth Lattice, Vandalblast, Blood Moon are probably not things I'm interested in although they would clearly be good. They just don't really seem fun either for me or my opponents!
1) Imperial Recruiter - The best creature tutor you can get for red.
2) Mana Crypt - Best mana rock hands down. Enables possible turn 1 Daretti.
3) Gauntlet of Might - More ramp that is faster to get out than Caged Sun.

7) Crucible of Worlds - Only run if you do fetches and/or Strip/Wasteland.
Fetches and Crucible of Worlds might make it eventually - they are kindof affordable. Karn Liberated too, just because he's so cool. The others are just super pricey but maybe someday!
You can take a look at my list in my sig to see what I run. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! I can tell you took some time to help me and I really appreciate it! I'll take a look at your list too when I have some time =]

Hadn't really thought about it. I might consider adding it, but I'm not sure that's really how I want to win, it doesn't sound particularly fun. But I'll consider it - thanks for the suggestion!
I hope I am not sounding rude to you.

Ramp:
-Fire Diamond
-Worn Powerstone
-Burnished Hart
-Darksteel Ingot
-Everflowing Chalice
-Blinkmoth Urn
+Mox Opal
+Fellwar Stone
+Grim Monolith
+Basalt Monolith
+Gilded Lotus
+Metalworker
Untap:
Copy:
-Sculpting Steel
-Dualcaster Mage
-Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient
-Wild Ricochet Tormod's Crypt
+Rings of Brighthearth
You don't really need to much copying, and Rings is far superior to Kurkesh, cuz it can copy Walkers and fetches if you run them.
Protection:
-Swiftfoot Boots
Greaves is much better, but neither are needed.
Utility:
-Clone Shell
Kind of like Hoarding Dragon - pretty terrible.
Land:
-Forgotten Cave
-Smoldering Crater
-Haunted Fengraf
-Kher Keep
-Arcane Lighthouse

So in the short term I can definitely afford to add Fellwar Stone and Basalt Monolith, probably for Blinkmoth Urn and Darksteel Ingot. Is Fellwar Stone really worth it? Gilded Lotus should be easy to trade for and Metalworker has been on my want list for a while if I see a copy floating around.
I could definitely see cutting Clock of Omens, I kind of like Voltaic Key because it's a relatively new addition and I haven't fully seen it in action yet. I like how flexible it is, but I could see cutting it in the future.
Memory Jar and Wheel of Fortune I would definitely add if I found a copy to trade for! I'm sure I'll see one around eventually.
Yeah, I want Scarecrone pretty badly... so good! Definitely looking for him. Recoup is a good suggestion too if I end up with Wheel of Fate, do you think its worth it as is? I only run about two sorceries I would actually care to have back.
Gamble is definitely awesome - if I ever come across a copy I'll pick it up Goblin Matron and Myr Turbine have only been okay for me and I could see cutting Hoarding Dragon.
Blightsteel Colossus is great... someday!
I like having a protected Hellkite Igniter and/or hasty Bosh, I think I'll keep it for now but might look for Greaves in the future.
Yep, could see it going away if I pick up something nice in the future.
Not a fan of the cycling lands? Kher Keep is out for Haven of the Spirit Dragon which I just got a copy of. Your other suggestions are on the "to acquire" list!
Squee, Goblin Nabob and Thopter Assembly are great suggestions, I'll pick them up ASAP. Karn, Silver Golem and Duplicant are definitely on my list. Staff of Domination will come in if I acquire the Worker and Rings in which case Comet Storm will come in too.
Mindslaver, Mycosynth Lattice, Vandalblast, Blood Moon are probably not things I'm interested in although they would clearly be good. They just don't really seem fun either for me or my opponents!
Fetches and Crucible of Worlds might make it eventually - they are kindof affordable. Karn Liberated too, just because he's so cool. The others are just super pricey but maybe someday!
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! I can tell you took some time to help me and I really appreciate it! I'll take a look at your list too when I have some time =]
Will take a look at the full list and post changes based on your feedback soon.
+ Fellwar Stone
+ Basalt Monolith
+ Squee, Goblin Nabob
+ Thopter Assembly
+ Haven of the Spirit Dragon
- Darksteel Ingot
- Clock of Omens
- Clone Shell
- Hoarding Dragon
- Kher Keep
Changes 7/12/15:
- Liquimetal Coating I've gone back and forth, but I'm sure now. No good.
+ All is Dust Thank you MM15 for lowering the price of this one!
- Eye of Ugin Cashed in on all this Modern Eldrazi hype...
- Caged Sun Expensive, generally I just want to get Daretti out early.
+ Mountain
+ Doubling Cube Signed at GP Oakland!
