Previous stax experience, a little story
Well, here I am again. Building yet another stax deck.
I've always loved white/black in stax but found red and blue to be underwhelming. Nicol bolas- gave me cards like Land Equilibrium and plenty of token makers but not enough wipes for me to work. Nath of the gilt-leaf- Naturally makes tokens and has plenty of ways to deny opponents but didn't feel like my type of deck. Teysa, Orzhov Scion- I thought for the longest time it was my stax deck. Offered white cards to blow up problems and plenty of stax effects. The issue I had was I didn't feel like I had 99 cards worth playing in stax. Do I add red, green, or blue? Tariel, reckoner of souls- Adding red to Teysa make me able to play some of my favorite cards from my Nicol bolas deck (goblin welder, Wheel of fortune, Devastation). The list can be found here.
Shortly after I went with Oloro, Ageless Ascetic and I loved it. Abusing Necropotence and Bitterblossom went very well with it but I feel like blue was underwhelming, same with red. Oloro can be found here.
So I love White, black, and wanted a third color....why not green?
I can safely say that Junk stax is the best three color combination for stax.
But is it for you?
Why would you want to play this deck?
Land destruction is A-OK in your book
You like locking down the board
You want to big plays early
You like playing enchantress
You Might Not Like This Deck If
You hate destroying lands
You hate making yourself a target
You want to play creatures
Your play group hates stax
Why Ghave and not other Junk?
Heh heh heh...Junk.
Ghave is the best option for stax since he makes tons of tokens to power up your creatures, make blockers, and creature fodder for stax effects.
Anafenza, the Foremost- Makes creatures exiled but doesn't provide tokens and a lot of the time combat damage is irrelevant to us
How to play
Enchantress stax is a very defensive style.
We set up walls of impossible frustration until opponents scoop or die to the same 1/1 hitting over and over for 40 turns.
But getting to that point can be difficult for the unsavvy, so take my dainty hand as I whisk you away to a world of sadness and masochism.
Early game
We run a lot of mana rocks. This insures that we can safely drop an enchantment draw spell early one. Enchantress's Presence, Argothian Enchantress, and Eidolon of Blossoms insure that every enchantment you drop afterwards gets the ball going. You can go with this or just drop Necropotence to REALLY get some value.
Once you set up the draw you can drop some protection. Token makers like Ghave insure that opponents aren't getting through early on while Humility just laughs at aggressive strategy altogether. All else fails, Ghave himself sets up blockers all day uncase anyone gets any ideas.
While you're preventing this you can drop a Humility to really sink in how much we hate creatures, but be sure that Sterling grove come out as well. The fun is about to begin...
Mid game strategy
Alright, so did you land some card draw engine and a way to poop out tokens? No? I'll wait a minute....
Ok, you're back so let's continue. By this point, we should try and get a lock.
Setting up Humility against aggro or Trinsphere against combo is good. Landing any enchantress followed by tons of enchantments means you never run out of gas. If possible landing Necropotence means you will not run out of any gas. If they want to blow it up you can necro for a ton and then discard some enchantments right into Replenish for an easy win.
With the amount of tokens, you're making you likely are the target at this point and people will want to blow up your lovely enchantments.
"Creatures are for wimps"
Late game combo kills
This deck has plenty of locks out kills. These don't kill everyone directly but make it near impossible for them to continue playing and if all else fails. Ghave, guru of spores himself is kinda a combo
Why these cards? General Ghave, Guru of spores
Ghave works for this deck like no other. He acts as both offense and defense.
When you need a wall of tokens, Ghave is there. When you need to sac your creatures, Ghave is there. When you need to pump someone up to 30 power, Ghave is there. He is the right colors and abilities for both a Defense build and offense. Great finisher
CREATURES
This deck runs very few creatures. The ones in here are either for value, card draw, or because they're universally fantastic.
Academy Rector- Instant speed tutor for any enchantment and stick it on board. Mandatory in an enchantress build
Avacyn's Pilgrim- Another dork that will get us to ramp early to be eaten by Ghave, clamps, or something once we stabilize
Aven Mindcensor- Another lockdown piece that can kill lands when it enters and makes tutors more hopeless
Birds of paradise- Will often get eaten by Ghave, mad useless by humility, or die to a wipe however it allows us to exile to 3/4 mana turn 2 so we can start making the big plays ourselves
Bloom Tender- Another mana dork that can easily tap for 3 colors
Dark Confidant- Average curve is lower than 2 so this more or less is a sylvan library on a creature often
Deathrite Shaman- Similar to birds but also puts a clock when boards are stalled, hurts reanimator, and excels our own mana
Elesh Norn, grand cenobite- Combo wins with living plane and overall is super good making a mini board wipe and making our tokens deadly
Elves of deep shadow- Yet another dork that will get us to ramp early to be eaten by Ghave, clamps, or something once we stablize
Llanowar elves- Yet another dork that taps for mana on turn 2
Mindslicer- Drop this after necro, arena, sylvan library, or gitrog to put everyone in top deck mode while you draw tons
Ramunap Excavator- We run lots of great utility lands and playing them out of the yard is great. Espcially with land destruction
Scavening ooze- Grave hate and overall decent stopping interaction
Sun titan- Gets back most powerful enchantments, artifacts, and anything you'd want back. With the amount of destruction packed in here he often has a great target. And if not you can't go wrong with Strip mine
Titania, protector of argoth- She creates powerful tokens for sac and works wonders with land destruction. Her plus any land wipe often means good game.
ARTIFACTS
Artifacts here act as utility and ramp here. Since we are blowing up lands often and making them irrelevant our artifacts are ways to accelerate past your opponents and keep them at bay.
Gilded lotus- Another artifact that sets us ahead 3 mana. Which isn't huge, until you realize how great it is with land destruction.
Mana crypt- Another sol ring effect. Play them if you have them
Mana vault- Allows for insane turn two plays like Smokestack. Since we're stalling out with walls often it's not uncommon for us to untap it later
Mox Diamond- Early ramp that works well with Crucible, Loam, and Excavtor
Sensei's divining top- Works great with tutors and fetch lands. Gets you what you want when you want it
The signets Golgari signet,Orzhov signet, and selesnya signet are all turn one/two plays that can race us ahead and provide mana for later plays that survive land destruction
Skullclamp- Turns any token into a draw two, works great with the general as well since he can both make tokens and can sac our own creatures to trigger skullclamp as well
Smokestack- The finisher of choice. We can often out token anyone and provide enough destruction and army to out sac any opponent
Sol ring- It taps for 2 on turn one. Need I say more?
Cataclysm- Nukes the board, leaving us with a lot of floating mana for us to continue beating face
Crop rotation- Searches for any relevant land. Lots of situations where it's very useful. Also blanks land removal
Death cloud- Kills lands, creatures, hands, and everything in between...except enchantments and artifacts. A resolved death cloud with necro on board is usually just game.
Doomwake giant- Kills lands with Living plane and can also provide one sided board wipes with enough enchantments
Eidolon of Blossoms- Another card that turns every enchantment into a cantrip, this one can be tutored by both enchantment tutors and creature tutors
Frontier siege- Provides 4 green mana every turn. Works great with land destruction effects. Also has another mode, no idea what that does.
Humility- Laughs at creatures. Makes creature based decks sad and doesn't hurt our general at all
Living plane- This is my favorite card in the deck since it combos with everything in the deck for huge benefits
Necropotence- Draws a lot of cards. Always brings us back to 7 cards in hand
Pattern of rebirth- With a ton of sac outlets this gets us any of the best creatures on the field. With Ghave you can easily chain into academy rector into any enchantment as well. Getting eternal witness can get pattern back or with rector you can get a chain of patterns until you get Titania/Knight/Sun titan to destroy opponents.
Starfield of nyx- Revives enchantments every turn. Great with Sterling grove. You can also go with enchantment beat down with this
Sterling grove- Protects all of our enchantments and can tutor up any enchantment as well
Survival of the fittest- Ditch dorks late game to get answers or whatever you're looking for an early lockout
Sylvan Library- Provides extra card draw and can fetch away cards that we don't need.
LANDS
"It's like a 2nd Gaea's cradle but for enchantments"
How can we play spells without lands? I don't know. Lets play lands
DUAL LANDS:Bayou, Scrubland, and Savannah- The best lands. No drawbacks and are very pretty too
SHOCK LANDS:Godless shrine, Overgrown tomb, and Temple garden- Shocks are pretty much duals. Losing two life is so irrelevant with fetch lands getting them end of turn.
BASICS: Forest, Plains, Swamp- One of each basic so Blood moon and stax effects aren't terrible.
Ancient tomb-Excels our manabase so we can get threats our a turn earlier.
Bojuka Bog- Works well with Knight, Crop rotaiton, and all the land interaction here. Stopping opponents graveyards outright
The cards I use above are for a specific meta. These cards below are amazing enchantments but do not serve the purpose they need in my group so I have them omitted until they're needed.
Karmic justice
Great card but really need opponents who destroy permanents more than my meta. If you have lots of destruction rather than exile or bounce you should run this
Rest in peace
My group has two reanimator decks, one of which is mine so I don't think I need it personally but can see it working well
Rule of law
Narset or Wanderer a problem? Storm too strong? Throw this in and keep it protected with grove or sun titan
City of solitude
Blue mage a problem? Just slam this down and laugh your way to counter free city. With protection or replenish/star field, you can land this pretty easily if blue mages are a problem in your group.
Privileged position
Targeted removal can be a problem, this will pretty much negate every piece of that
Solitary confinement
Allows aggro decks to lay in the dust and not do anything while you continue with lock down
Contamination
In a group that runs very few mana rocks this can easily lock out tables with just another token maker
Eladrami's call
Manglehorn
Beast Within
Eldritch Evolution
Razaketh, the foulblooded
Fellwar Stone
Castic Catipillar

Still, you can get a lot of mileage out of one land if you need to once you cataclysm. You still run a lot of fetch and crucible, Sun Titan and LftL and could get tutor or return them pretty easily. Or maybe try adding another since your ramp is colorless already and the mana base is tight. I just immediately thought of it when you moved to this for stax and saw Enchantress's Presence (I've been following your stax posts across the tri colors). You've got the enchantress theme and I think you're onto something with that and would really like to see you at least play test the idea. Just recently I helped convert my little brother's full on token themed Marath deck to an enchantress deck and watching it cantrip every great card it played was pretty devastating. Just food for thought.
Fair enough. I'm gonna add it for future testing. I also think adding more of the enchantress cantrips would benefit as well but they're all creatures so they may be less of a priority.

I think Death Cloud and/or Pox could replace 1 or 2 sweepers. They will win you the game on the spot especially Death Cloud.
Added Death cloud to testing list.
Not so sure about Pox though. Seems not quite as good as the others.

Thanks, I love the archtype but just didn't have optimized (hopefully now I do)
I have the four creature draw enchantment cards on my test list. Still want to try out the other cards on the list first to see what's not impressive. Humilty is a monster against most decks but somewhat hurts us, but not enough to take it out. It completely wrecks aggro decks.

Dominated edh night with this deck tonight. Lost 0 games all night and here are some things I've noticed
Creakwood liege and Azusa, lost but seeking were under preforming. One makes tokens that don't die to skullclamp and one doesn't work so well with only 35 lands in the deck. Sure it's sweet with crucible but any good player will kill either on the spot and without blue it's more difficult to protect them. Also they are useless once Humility hits and don't think they add enough value to keep them regardless of the negative effects of humility. Titania and Sun titan were still amazing, even if humility is in the deck. Other two just don't seem worth it.
Enchantress's Presence was a house today. Drawing 6 or 7 cards early on, usually into other enchantments that either draw or protect enchantments as well. Very much enjoyed it and wish there were more effects like this that wasn't on creatures.
Looking to add Nether void and something else soon

Looking to add Frontier seige once it comes out.
Tabernacle and nether void once I can trade for them as well.
I also want to add Argothian Enchantress and Eidolon of Blossoms since the enchantment theme has been great so far. Idolyic tutor seems strong with that as well
Edited my test list as many of them were merely too weak compared to the others.
Is survival of the fittest not good when I'm lowering my creature count so much? I like Eldrami's call but not sure about survival

Ya it's kind of a meh card outside of creature heavy decks/reanimator and you don't really ever gain a creature you just trade it off, so it in reality has a draw back you probably wanna go around since getting as much value as possible seems important. Looking to make this as my next deck!
Very true. I can use call to get mindcensor or sun titan if need be as a one time thing but I'm leaning on removing more creatures in the future so survival will probably be meh and I don't really want to trade for yet another one anyway.
This deck is a lot of fun. It "interacts" with everyone and brings smile to all

I'd say try to take out similar cards because it's really tight now. I LOVE crop rotation now that im running a lot of utility in my BUG deck and it really does work, esp with stuff like Bog and dust bowl. You just cut the only two cards I thought it could do without. Maybe also try to lower curve a bit? I'd say playtest with what you have it looks really great with new additions
Yeah that makes sense. Only way to know what to cut is by testing but I keep "redundant" cards to make sure I draw something of similar effect rather than something I may not need

Not really any update but got to play with the new toys yesterday.
Those are Elspeth tokens btw
Tabernacle + Living plane + Linvala = Hilarious
Thinking about cutting: Sorin, lord of innistrad (Decent token maker but not much else) Reassembling skeleton (Worse than bloodghast but has some perks with Ghave, humility, aura shards) Garruk, primal hunter (Great with general but not with much else, tokens are sweet though, and works insane with Doubling season)
Thoughts?
I also added to test list: Winter orb- Works very well with Tabernacle and stax Karn liberated - Planeswalker finisher but fraglie Gaea's cradle - Makes insane mana with how many tokens I can make but sometimes taps for nothing
Thoughts?

I'd say cutting those three are ideal, but I'd try and get a midrange walker back in there or an enchantress/stax enchantment just to really maximize your ability to draw while carrying out your plans. That's why the enchantress theme is so underrated. They dont get much hate and provide draw that doesnt over extend mana. Even the three mana ones followed by an enchantment makes them somewhat useful. Have you return all enchantments from GY having Eidilion hit first?
Garruk is really great for the draw and token aspect but only worth the draw often with the general, not sure otherwise.
I also had someone cast Bane of progress on a full board. I sac Academy rector to find Karmic justice. Guess who doesn't have a manabase?!
I've yet to put Eidilion in the deck since he's also a creature but he definitely has a slot here. No idea what to cut though. All the ones I mentioned still have awesome benefits

Ya, the four drop Sorin is a super worthwhile card. I'd honestly vote against cutting walkers for non walker cards. Also, Ugin may be better over Karn with DOubling Season in deck.
My concern with Ugin is his second ability can wipe all my enchantments. Seems just too risky to include. I also am debating cutting parallel lives since it's so meh by itself and doubling season is way better.
I liked Sorin more in my lastest Stax builds but here he seems not as important as the others

So over the last few weeks I've been DECIMATING tables. Kaalia, Arcum, and grixis storm get wrecked consistently in 5 matches in a row and I've been loving this deck.
It may be even my favorite deck now...that's just weird to say

Ya, it's an awesome deck and seems a whole lot more fun than Mimeoplasm. I loved the deck but it was very one note, or at least mine was and sharuum really holds out as my favorite combo leader. White really shines in abzan and I think you have something here. Stax is probably more taboo than combo
Well, here I am again. Building yet another stax deck.
I've always loved white/black in stax but found red and blue to be underwhelming.
Nicol bolas- gave me cards like Land Equilibrium and plenty of token makers but not enough wipes for me to work.

Shortly after I went with Oloro, Ageless Ascetic and I loved it. Abusing Necropotence and Bitterblossom went very well with it but I feel like blue was underwhelming, same with red. Oloro can be found here.
So I love White, black, and wanted a third color....why not green?

Doran, the Siege Tower- Is about aggro and taking out people with damage, not for stax
karador, ghost chieftain - Is sweet for reanimator but not really good for decks that lack creatures. Not for here
Teneb, the harvester- Is like Karador but worse. So....no
Daghatar the Adamant - He's dumb.

This deck offers a lot of tutors and cards that are better in some situations than others.
Vampiric tutor and Demonic tutor can search for anything.
Need to protect your board? Sterling grove with Sun titan is hard to stop
Austere Command coming around? Replenish work well here
Landed Doomwake giant? Find living plane
Are you way ahead on board state? Find Armageddon or Ravages of war
Crop rotation is universally useful
Serra's Sanctum for when you have lots enchantments, Gaea's cradle for when you have lots of creatures, The tabernacle at pendrell vale for when it's time to start nuking creatures, or Strip mine for when lands need to die.
Why these cards?
General
Ghave, Guru of spores
Ghave works for this deck like no other. He acts as both offense and defense.
When you need a wall of tokens, Ghave is there. When you need to sac your creatures, Ghave is there. When you need to pump someone up to 30 power, Ghave is there. He is the right colors and abilities for both a Defense build and offense. Great finisher
CREATURES
This deck runs very few creatures. The ones in here are either for value, card draw, or because they're universally fantastic.
ARTIFACTS
Artifacts here act as utility and ramp here. Since we are blowing up lands often and making them irrelevant our artifacts are ways to accelerate past your opponents and keep them at bay.
INSTANTS AND SORCERIES
Lots of these cards are for providing us with the answers when we need it. Others are for answering threats that may come up.
ENCHANTMENTS
Now the best part. The finishers, the headaches, and the threats for opponents. I love these guys
LANDS

Turn two Academy rector and High market
End of opponents turn sac to get Living plane
Turn three Linvala, keeper of silence
Amazing hand. The lawls that were had.
Added Death cloud to testing list.
Not so sure about Pox though. Seems not quite as good as the others.

PS this is by far the coolest stax variation you've made with what I think is the best deck variation(so far) to keep the stax going.

URGWKynaios and Tiro's Multiplayer MenagerieWGRU
I have the four creature draw enchantment cards on my test list. Still want to try out the other cards on the list first to see what's not impressive.
Humilty is a monster against most decks but somewhat hurts us, but not enough to take it out. It completely wrecks aggro decks.

Edit:
-Azusa, lost but seeking
-Creakwood liege
+Erebos, god of the dead
+freyalise, llanowar fury

Tabernacle and nether void once I can trade for them as well.
I also want to add Argothian Enchantress and Eidolon of Blossoms since the enchantment theme has been great so far.
Idolyic tutor seems strong with that as well
Edited my test list as many of them were merely too weak compared to the others.
Is survival of the fittest not good when I'm lowering my creature count so much? I like Eldrami's call but not sure about survival

Those are Elspeth tokens btw
Tabernacle + Living plane + Linvala = Hilarious
Thinking about cutting:
Sorin, lord of innistrad (Decent token maker but not much else)
Reassembling skeleton (Worse than bloodghast but has some perks with Ghave, humility, aura shards)
Garruk, primal hunter (Great with general but not with much else, tokens are sweet though, and works insane with Doubling season)
Thoughts?
I also added to test list:
Winter orb- Works very well with Tabernacle and stax
Karn liberated - Planeswalker finisher but fraglie
Gaea's cradle - Makes insane mana with how many tokens I can make but sometimes taps for nothing
Thoughts?

I also had someone cast Bane of progress on a full board. I sac Academy rector to find Karmic justice. Guess who doesn't have a manabase?!
I've yet to put Eidilion in the deck since he's also a creature but he definitely has a slot here. No idea what to cut though. All the ones I mentioned still have awesome benefits

-Sorin, lord of innistrad
-Return to dust
Took out Return because of how much destruction I already have, took out sorin since he was easily the worst of the token makers

It may be even my favorite deck now...that's just weird to say
Anyway I'm thinking of adding privileged position or Greater auramancy to make even more lockout with Sterling grove but no idea what to really cut for it. Looking forward for more fun soon
