This is my first EDH deck. I've been doing research for months now about which deck I should build, but I just haven't found a commander that I think I can stick to in the long term. I don't want to pick a commander that's gimmicky because I think I'll get bored of it too quickly. I want the deck itself to be interesting and fun to play regardless of whether or not the commander is present. As a result, I've decided to avoid commanders that win games through commander damage and decks that rely on their commander to win games due to special synergies. This led me to Zegana, because in my deck, she's just a solid, recurring card draw engine that happen to fall in the two strongest colors in commander. She's can be extremely advantageous when put into play, but you can win with her not in play.
Another decision I've made is to avoid insta kill comboing. I want to win by beating my opponent down. If I had to label the deck I'm looking to play it would be a "Controlly Beat Down Deck". So this is where I'm currently at:
I wouldn't play cards that have no purpose other than being fat, like Chameleon Colossus or Thrun. Those are pretty bad. You should be running Deadeye Navigator.
Thanks Razz. I'll switch out the Colossus for Deadeye. I like having Thrun in there because he's very hard to kill which increases the odds that I'll have something to give counters to Zegana when she comes in. Nothing worse when needing to cast Zegana but having no creatures left.
Anyone have some good suggestions on what I could replace?
I was thinking about maybe Garruk Wildspeaker in place of Teferi. Or Steel Hellkite in place of Tanglewurm? Any other ideas? Am I missing any green or blue game ending creatures?
i never tried the new paragons, i shifted to a more combo oriented build because it holds up better in my meta, but they're solid inclusions too!
you could also run empyrial plate and psychosis crawler or maro if you tend to have a lot of cards in hand, or just need to plow through with something huge after resolving zegana.
but thats all if you really wanna explore beating face.
You shouldn't cut Mystic Snake. The Snake and Draining Whelk are nuts when paired with Deadeye (just like every other ETB card ever printed).
More win conditions never hurt anyone. Cut Bellowing Tanglewurm for Psychosis Crawler (when Psychosis Crawler is in play, pair Zegana with DEN and blink Zegana a few times to kill everyone at once). Craterhoof Behemoth should also be in here, if he isn't house-banned by your playgroup; cut pretty much any one of your 7-8 CMC creatures and it'll be worthwhile (except Avenger of Zendikar, as he and Craterhoof are besties for life).
EDIT: I'd also recommend Master Biomancer. He automatically adds 2 extra counters to Zegana when she enters play, and he has great interaction with some powerful Persist creatures. If you add him, you may want to consider Glen Elendra Archmage and Woodfall Primus as well.
Finally, since you're already running Rite of Replication, why not toss in Biovisionary as a silly alternative win condition?

i did it for a long time and it was fantastic... until they wipe the board.
but anyway not only are they going to make each other fat, they'll also make her fat.
lord of atlantis
master of the pearl trident
merrow reejerey
coralhelm commander
merfolk sovereign
then throw in things like wolfir silverheart murkfiend liege master biomancer and sage of fables
thassa god of the sea was nuts here too.
for clones:
phantasmal image cackling counterpart sakashima the impostor clever impersonator phyrexian metamorph progenitor mimic
sakashima keeps his name so, yay fatties and cards!
need some things that get fat fast for cheap? manaplasm wake thrasher

It can be difficult for U/G to remove creatures, and this creature is an effective means for avoiding combat damage.
