I'm just getting back into mtg after a few years hiatus and I'm just thrilled to see this! I loved building with Mishra because he's so unconventional and nobody was really doing it. I'm really glad someone has taken up the mantle and is still refining decks with him. People have the most wonderfully quizzical looks when you put him down
Of course man! I remember looking at your list when I first started playing Mishra. I'd love to see what your build looks like today if you are rebuilding that bad boy!
Quicksmith Rebel seems interesting, but idk if i will slot him.
Scrap Trawler seems INSANE. I cannot wait to sleeve up one.
Scrap Trawler is indeed the nuts, especially with a sac outlet and something like Ornithopter. Infinite etb triggers, infinite mana with Ashnod's Altar, insta-death with Impact Tremors, infinite life with a soul sister, infinite energy with Decoction Module....I need to stick this in my deck.
I am frustrated that this "Primer" is written for a weaker build. Is there a primer for a stronger competitive build?
I cover 4 builds, 2 of which are competitive. Check the 'other mishra builds' section. The stax is quite oppressive in multiplayer, and Mishra flies under the radar early, which makes establishing our lock easier; and the storm variant is very dangerous in 1v1, though is not legal by 1v1 french ban list rules.

I just don't feel like a competitive list is getting the proper attention. the best list should be the primer and the 75% or whatever should be an alternative list. I don't even think your better lists are up to par.
As a member of the primer committee, I can tell you that the 'best' list isn't always what people want nor what you are required to focus on. The primer's focus is up to the author's choice and if you don't enjoy it, well you can submit your own primer to us.

But on another note: Im excited for Aether revolt. The fact we get another tezzy is making me excited

I would like to point you towards Arcum. I believe he is probably more the speed of commander you are looking for. By picking Mishra as your general, you are basically locking yourself into a subpar strategy. Not to say Mishra won't win games, but I dont think you will find what you are looking for here. My storm list wins regularly by turn 5, and thats about the most competitive my local game circles will tolerate before complaining about it. Another artifact commander you may enjoy is Sharuum.

Aether revolt looks great. Kaladesh is a much needed Mishra block, so much goodness! Also, I havent finished him yet, but checked my current work in progress alter for mishra! Still need to finish his hand and tidy up my lines, but i love how he turned out (also, takes a lot longer to do than i anticipated).
So it looks like you are running a combo / stax build, looks pretty solid. A few cards stick out to me at a glance:
Staff of Nin - 6 mana is incredibly steep a price for this card, and i feel that with all your wheel effects the 1 extra card per turn will be underwhelming for the price
Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir - An insanely powerful card, especially combined with Possibility Storm. You may want to consider slotting Knowledge Pool as another way to abuse teferi. Just remember that your friends might not appreciate that
Nullstone Gargoyle - you run a very tight list. a 9 drop might be hard for you to find use for very frequently.
Memnarch - Really strong card, but i am not sure it forwards your goals for comboing out or submitting your opponents with stax. I kinda see memnarch as a 'win more' card, if it's useful, then youve likely already won. I would consider this a card to cut.
Planar Portal - Similar to Memnarch, this is really pricey for its effect, might be better suited as a different tutor, such as Transmute Artifact
Some noteable cards you may want to slot, since you are going towards cutthroat style include:
Pithing Needle - Lock out any threatening commanders / cards
Trinisphere - your deck is already skewed to the 3cc or more cost, with only 13/100 cards costing less than 3 mana. This can really choke out opponents on turn 1 if you get it plus workshop in hand (basically an instant win).
Trading Post - Supremely versatile, never a bad card to draw into, i would recommend play testing it.
Transmute Artifact - A legal tinker that puts a tutored artifact straight into play. Sure you pay the difference, but you are running high tier mana rocks, i doubt you will have much issue there.
Eventually I'll finish the deck - I haven''t had a lot of cash these last couple years. Mostly I need some of the more costly colour fixing lands, but even needing several-plus $10-$20 artifacts is not always easy. I do have about 2/3 of the deck ready, including some high end stuff like Transmute Artifact, Nether Void, Chalice, Antiquities Recall, Mox Opal, and both Sol lands. I'd like to run Workshop, Candelabra, and Mana Drain, but they might be out of my range.
Seriously though, people are completely entitled to their opoinions, and if people dont present opposing opinions, things like primers can get stale or stagnant. I welcome folks like Peyton to stir things up...though currently I stand by my statements and lists. All i ask is that we keep it civil and remember that we all share the same goal - Mishra kicking ass
@Peyton - did you happen to see my suggestions / have any thoughts regarding them?
+1 Create an artifact with T: sacrifice for 1 of any color of mana
-2 Target creature gets +x/-x until end of turn where x is number of artifacts you control
-7 you get an emblem with at beginning of combat target artifact becomes 5/5 creature
But I think I might like Master of Metal better. Drawing a card is usually worth more than one mana. The removal is nice on Conspirator, but I think the ultimate is better on Master of Metal. I'm not too worried about the extra two cmc. What do you guys think?
So for constructed play, I am happy to see a balanced walker that isnt OP in the 4 mana slot.
For edh, I am very unimpressed with this Tezz.
+1: Lotus Petal is pretty weak when we pay 4 mana. Not bad, but pretty meh.
His -2 looks like solid removal, but I much prefer Daretti, Ingenious Iconoclast if I am looking for a removal walker.
Finally, and i am a believer you should never judge a walker by their ult since it never really happens, his ultimate ability has very little impact on our game plan, and can actually be a hindrance by forcing us to make artifacts into creatures, which are probably the easiest permanent type to remove.
Conclusion: I prefer the new Daretti to this newest Tezz. He is 1 mana cheaper, produces more useful artifacts on his +1, has better removal on his -2, and his ultimate has game impact. I also prefer Master of Metal to this tezz, though a 6+ drop walker has to be utterly amazing for me to slot, and I dont think i will sleeve up master of metal either. While i like his +1 to draw the next artifact, I will rarely use his -3, and without generating a way to protect himself, I don't think i will be able to protect him long enough to abuse his ult with lattice.
Old Tezzerets can get an ultimate off with a lot less trouble.
Truth. Though, does it ever really happen? By that I mean, do you actually choose to activate their ultimate when you have the chance, instead of another ability? I almost always use Seeker as a tutor into play card. I actually don't own a copy of Agent of Bolas, so I cannot speak to him much. I have always seen his strength as his +1 being a really powerful card advantage effect - do you use his ult as a kill move or do you draw more? I feel 9 times out of 10 i'd lean towards his +1 over his ultimate. The exception would be if i really badly needed the life boost, or if I could kill an opponent that turn with it.
I don't own a Seeker yet! My experiences with Agent of Bolas have been in Legacy Affinity, where if you can ultimate you win. Obviously it's less powerful in EDH!
The exception would be if i really badly needed the life boost, or if I could kill an opponent that turn with it.
Is it that rare that you can kill an opponent? With, say, ten artifacts on board you can kill anybody with twenty life or less. And Seeker could ultimate to alpha-strike for fifty damage. Do these things not ever really happen for you?
I agree that walkers generally need to be evaluated under the assumption that you generally won't have the opportunity to ultimate. But with Tezzerets in the mix, we need to compare prospective walkers to these guys who's ultimates are actually relevant (or at least they seem that way to me).

Fair point, I don't use TAoB enough to know how scary he is from an Ult perspective, i was just speculating. More often than not, i'd rather draw cards and work towards my ultimate doomsday machine instead of kill a single player.
Currently Experimenting with dropping Reliquary Tower for Inkmoth Nexus. My thoughts are, massive hand size is nice, but rarely does the deck have such a fat hand that i require Reliquary Tower, whereas inkmoth gives us a kill clock as well as a flying blocker.
I like transmute artifact, even if you cant pay for the target, easy way to put it in the grave for welder-like effects to cheat it out. Plus the rings+basalt+sensei's combo is super low on the curve so paying for those, which are already useful cards, is easy to do.
oh man, Transmute Artifact is such a gem. I used to abuse it in my Arcum deck (before i scrapped that project, my playgroup wasnt too keen on the artifact abuse that deck brought). As mentioned by Chacobos above, it fetches combo pieces super easily, especially low curve cards.
Be on the look out for the Aether Revolt set review in the coming few days. I am super excited about this block, and this set certainly didnt disappoint!!
DAYUM! So jealous about that signed beast! congrats! seriously green with envy over here!
my apologies to anyone who actually has been waiting on my set review, been a very busy papa this month, haven't had much time to type it up, i promise its almost done.
