Any chance you have looked at the aetherflux reservoir for the list? I cut one of the last 3 'replacement cards' (missing seal, grim tutor and candelabra) for it and while i respect that any of those three cards are strictly better, resolving this t1/2 tends to lead to a solid t3/4 kill even in 3-4 player games. Assuming you are sensible enough to hold priority on instants so that the triggers see all spells in one big pile you can see off 5-10 spells storm easily with most gaining you 5-7 life per instance. I have found it to be very impressive so far and wondered how you felt about it. Too slow/expensive?
At 4 cost it might be too expensive for your purposes, but how does the Storm Trooper crowd feel about Paradoxical Outcome? It can act as a Hurkyl's Recall, albeit for two more mana. Is the card draw worth the 2, or is the card a complete bust for this type of deck?
Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder
UBRG
Trample
Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, as you cast spells from your hand this turn, they gain cascade
5/4
I'm not sure that green adds a whole lot to the deck but this guy might be an option as a general. My paper meta isn't extremely competitive so this might be a more fun option for me.
I don't think Yidris or green add enough to the deck to warrant cutting Jeleva. She doesn't need more ramp, and none of the green cards are strong enough to stretch the manabase during a game.
I also think Yidris the card is worse than Jeleva. She casts cards for you without having to jump through hoops. Yidris requires you to damage a player, and then also have mana and cards available to cast more spells. When you're winning he makes it easier to storm off... but you were winning there anyways. Jeleva has a much better power curve, in addition to being easier to cast early game because of the Colorless cost.

I dunno, both Yidris and Jeleva have the same drawback, you have to attack, granted Yidris has to do damage, but vs. 3 players there is a pretty good chance you can find someone who will take damage to 5/4 trampler. The problem is, I too do not think green really gives us much for a storm list. The green elements we would use tend to be a bit slower than the Jelava list we have now. I am hoping Moxnix will chime in on this too, he tends to have a unique perspective on things.
There is something to be said about having a hand full of garbage, but hitting gas off your cascades. In that sense kind of the same as jeleva, but overall not sure what green adds or if he is actually better
The thing I like about Yidris is your cantrips now also grab your 0 cost mana rocks. Only downside would be hitting pact if you still have it in your list. Otherwise you're hitting Mox Opal, Mox Diamond, Chrome Mox, or Mana Crypt off a High Tide or a Dark Ritual. It seems like it would really fuel you going off. I haven't tested it at all but I'm willing to adjust my mana base a little and swap Jeleva out for a little while just to see how it fits.
The downside to getting rid of Jeleva is you lose the chance to just eat your opponents deck with her ETB. This may end up being the reason to keep her. Having the backup backup contingency plan if someone strips your deck of wincons is potentially better than random cascades.
I do agree that green really does add nothing to the deck though. The list is already so tight there's really no room for anything green has to offer.
Hi Moxnix, I've lurked on here for quite a long time and Jeleva storm (thank you) is my deck of choice to take to competitive EDH tables. For reference, I also play with 5c hermit druid, Derevi Locks, Aracanis Control, and original Kozilek as well as a number of less cutthroat decks.
I want to ask how you feel about cutting FoF for Paradoxical Outcome. It isn't quite as good for setting up but it's such a powerful enabler on or before the winning turn that I can't ignore it. Fof is obviously fantastic but at 4 mana it's probably the most underwhelming and high-variance card in the deck while outcome can be straight busted. Let me know what you think!
Paradoxical outcome is a great card an I have had alot of success with the card in vintage and as somethign that lets me play FOWs in a storm shell its quite awesome. Here however its not quite as good as I do not run a high enough % of cards that make it great. Becuase of that while its true it has more potential on the combo turn it will be very dead at all other phases of the game with quite a few of the hands I would get. FoF is consistent and the card quailty of this deck is pretty damn high it sees 5 cards and you get all of them as far as YW is concerned. While its not one of the strongest cards in the deck I have never felt it was underwhelming. Turn 1 ring into T2 FoF is not so much worse than t1 ring into t2 wheel. I would play somethign like gifts over it in a heartbeat but the bottom line is while Outcome is very powerful in the right deck I simply dont play enough to support it here. I have put it in my teferi deck though and I found it to be quite good thier where I have more artifacts and often spare mana and also in need of more good hit cards without acess to the tutors you get from black. I will say I do Main phase FoF here more foten than any other deck I play it in which can seems odd but its never felt like a weak card.
Hey, I am building a Jeleva deck right now. Posting the cards I bought yesterday soon. As my playgroup allows proxys I will sleeve part of your deck up and proxy the rest. Its gonna be a mix of proxy and budget. Can you give me advice when I post a list what should go in and what not since I am fairly new to storm and edh?
Thanks for your thoughts, I've been testing with Paradoxical and while it's pretty fun when it works I found the same thing; the synergy of outcome isn't there all of the time while FoF is always powerful, when it's good I'm probably winning anyway even if the line isn't as obvious. Do you have your current Teferi listed somewhere?
My playgroup allows for Proxies and is semi-competitive. I know it's kind of a stretch to bring this deck to them, but I really wanna play it. So my plan is to tone it down a little bit. I can play some expensive cards, but I need to cut the original duals and stuff like Candelabra from the proxies. It would be a huge thing if you can comment on my list. I am gonna build it over time to get better and better, but as it is now I only have the cards bought listed in the spoiler.
I saw a list on mtggoldfish, which looks appealing and could be used in my plagroup. I think it's power level is relatively high for its cost. List can be seen here. Suggestions for me for what to work on or if it really would be better to switch to Mizzix or Jace, the Vryn Prodigy are really appreciated (Please don't break my heart by suggesting this )

Hey Mox, did you ever complete the budget section/options for grixis storm? I really want to get into the chaos of grixis storm but at the moment I can't afford to buy the cards over $50+

Its on my short list of things im going to make videos for considering how long I have put it off and how often I get that question you will see something from me soon and i think your going to like it XD. Hint people have been asking me to do something else and im going to kill 2 birds with one stone
I finally bit the bullet and built Jeleva storm ever since I got her a week ago. I must say I have been very impressed. There was one game which I cast jeleva because I didn't have much and got a Fact or fiction as one of the many off of her. I swung and played FoF and got Ad nauseum as part of the pile. I proceeded to win from there. She can really get you out of sticky situations and she is very powerful. I am a new fan.
P.s. I've played many other cEDH decks such as Karador Boonweaver Combo, Zur doomsday, Yisan, Tasigur, Captain Sisay Stax, Teferi stax, Breya Dragon Combo, OmniRector, Food chain Tazri/Prossh. I love this one the most thus far. The doomsday puzzle is what really intrigues me.
Can anyone enlighten me on the 50/50 doomsday pile? I would love to learn more about these more advanced piles. Thanks!
I have been putting in the hours with this list on both paper and mtgo. I love it.
I have an odd request. I just finished playing in an EDH league where we all started with one of the C16 precon decks and then over six weeks switched out five cards per week. I chose Yidris and ended up winning the league.
But there is a bonus round! The only criteria being you must use the commander from your precon (You could use the partners too).
I could play the Jeleva list as is using Yidris but I was wondering of there are any green cards that would add strength to the deck.
in my testing the only cards worth using in green were carpet of flowers and libary but if your using yidris you should probably play ancestral visions too.

Also recollect/regrowth/noxious revival seem good. Attacking with Yidris with bear umbra also doesn't seem too bad, and I'm also considering abundant growth for a cantrip/fixer.

Jeleva exiles cards out of libraries on ETB, then casts those cards when she attacks. You do not need to cast spells out of your hand to get value.
After Yidris deals combat damage to a player, spells cast out of your hand get cascade. You still have to cast spells out of your hand to get value.
There is a *huge* difference there. Jeleva actually makes value. Yidris just enhances the things you already have.
