It seems that the RC chose to appeal to those in favor of including silver-bordered cards than those against it. From December 1st, 2017 to January 15th, 2018 silver-bordered cards (with a few exceptions) will be legal in commander. This has caused quite the stir in the community and I won't touch upon that topic since I already discuss it quite a bit in the pertinent threads. I will however provide an analysis of a conservative list of cards that would be good for Mazirek. The cards are conservative in the sense that they could pass for black-bordered cards but should also be good for the deck. They shouldn't be included for the sake of being included. Even then, I'd probably only include Urza's Contact Lenses. Then again I'd have to test them. Considering my situation hasn't improved much in the past months (I've been 87 straight days without electricity; I have to go to certain places on the island to use electricity and internet because I haven't had any power in my apt for almost a quarter of a year) I haven't even been able to analyze any possible changes thanks to the release of Ixalan and some cards that I'd really like to test for the deck. In any case, that gives me a bigger selection than usual of cards to test. Hopefully I can get some of that done in the weekend in Cockatrice. Hopefully the environment hasn't become too toxic or apocalyptic due to the RC. In any case, it's the kind of drama I'd prefer over the whole Cristine vs. Jeremy one that has been going on recently. Maybe that's the real reason the RC dropped this bombshell today? If it is, kudos. Anyways, on to the un-sets analysis:
Johnny, Combo Player - Although not as broken as Razaketh, the Foulblooded (the legendary demon nets you a tutored card for no mana; just at the cost of 2 life and a creature, which is nothing in this deck thanks to the tokens), it's still along the same vein as him, Rune-Scarred Demon, and Sidisi, Undead Vizier. Basically, a tutor on a body. Although not entirely banned by the RC, they have warned against breaking him. However, with a cost of 2UU, an ability that costs 4, and a toughness of 1, Razaketh, the Foulblooded costs the same net amount of mana, it's an 8/8 flyer with trample, and it's activated ability is also at instant speed with a cost of 0. So, again, there are better cards than Johnny. But, the deck wants bodies that have great abilities and Johnny fits into that. So he's definitely worth testing.
Uktabi Kong - It destroys all artifacts when entering the battlefield which is great against artifact heavy decks or decks that run a lot of mana rocks. The deck doesn't run many artifacts and although it's not easy to recur them, casting Uktabi Kong or reanimating it doesn't set me back quite as much as it could the rest of the board. I would rather prefer this over Bane of Progress since Bane of Progress also destroys enchantments and that's even harder to recur in this deck than artifacts. And I would rather lose Sol Ring than Doubling Season or Doubling SeasonandSol Ring. Uktabi Kong is harder to cast and costs more than Bane of Progress but at least Uktabi Kong can make ape tokens. With Doubling Season in play, I could potentially make infinitely many ape tokens.
At best, this card goes infinite with Mesmeric Orb for the simple cost of clapping my hands twice. That may seem silly but if you really wanna get down to brass tacks, it's pretty much just an activated ability that reads "0: Tap or untap Urza's Contact Lenses."
But if I must clap my hands twice to tap or untap it then I'm gonna be clapping like the Gipsy Kings when I get that in play along with Mesmeric Orb.

These changes have a difference in average CMC of 0, which is a good thing. However, it's a difference of -1 in the amount of creatures in the deck. Although the ratio is 1:3 (33 creatures out of 99 cards), I really do my best to not swap out more creatures over noncreatures. I made these changes because after a bit of testing, I found that Champion of Stray Souls - although amazing when going off - would stay in my hand or graveyard until I had a solid mana foundation. By then, most of the times I would be doing other things with my mana instead of casting, reanimating, or topdecking it. The Scarab God has been top notch in my Zombie Build and the Main Build creates its fair share of zombies so the swap was eminent. I liked Champion of Stray Souls so much I had to swap it out for something leagues better. Swapping Genesis for Liliana, Death's Majesty was a bit harder. However, all of Liliana's abilities are relevant and she can reanimate a creature, whereas Genesis can only send a creature from graveyard to hand only during my upkeep and only if I pay 2G (1G if Embalmer's Tools is in play). Although I prefer to not make these kind of swaps of creature for noncreature, I feel that this change is for the best. Finally, another creature to noncreature change is Seeker of Skybreak for Growing Rites of Itlimoc. Seeker of Skybreak is great with cards like Krosan Restorer, Hell's Caretaker, etc. but then again so is Aphetto Alchemist, the latter being able to also untap itself as well an artifact. Aphetto Alchemist is much better in that regard. I don't really need two creatures doing the same thing because only one of them is needed when Mesmeric Orb comes into play. Growing Rites of Itlimoc easily transforms into Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun, which is strictly better than Gaea's Cradle.

Rise of the Dark Realms would be cool but it's overcosted to a point where it would have to win the game when cast. Craterhoof Behemoth does a better job of winning games after being cast or cheated onto the battlefield. On top of that, I don't want to just reanimate my entire graveyard. Filth being in there is key to one of the deck's wincons.

Ah I see, it's card for card, lol. Alright, lemme see what can be taken out for your meta choice.
Since I'm considering Champion of Stray Souls for the next cut, you could test out that swap (for the Leyline of the Void). I don't usually swap out creatures for noncreatures, but you'd still be at 33 creatures which is a good ratio for Sidisi.

As far as it being an auto-include I don't think it's that impressive. I do see it as an auto-include in decks like Child of Alara lands.dec but for this deck, it'd be great to test. The problem is the same as before though: what do I cut to test? Also, it's not a creature, which is a downer, as well.
Path to Discovery seems like an auto-include. Exploring whenever a creature enters the battlefield is a great way to not mill a land from the top of the deck. Also, if the card is a creature, I can put it into the graveyard. This is how it would work with Sidisi, Brood Tyrant in play:
1) Any creature enters the battlefield, triggering Path to Discovery.
2) The creature explores, revealing the top card of my library.
3) If it's a land, it goes to my hand (great). If it's a non-creature, I will not mill it (these are the hardest to recover). If it is a creature, I mill it, triggering Sidisi, Brood Tyrant.
4) If Sidisi, Brood Tyrant is triggered, repeat from step 1.
The +1/+1 counter is just a sweet bonus.

If we're talking auto includes, we just got a mini Sidisi with Splendid Reclamation attached to it.
Oooh! Definitely an autoinclude! I'll probably swap out Splendid Reclamation for it! Boy do I love swapping out noncreature spells for creatures in this deck! Heyo!
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Nezahal, Primal Tide - Not too difficult to hardcast when producing a lot of mana. Easy to reanimate (which is probably how it'll end up in play). It allows draw and it can protect itself via a free discard outlet - which in and of itself is useful to get fatties into the graveyard for later reanimation. This creatures seems all over the place with its abilities but it could possibly fit in a toolbox.
Tomb Robber - Good way to filter the top for lands as well as providing a cheap sac outlet in the process. If the card is a noncreature I'll leave it on the top and if not, I'll selfmill it.
Twilight Prophet - Most of the deck is permanent cards and the deck produces tons of tokens so I'm bound to ascend. The ability is great in that I draw a card and can drain opponents. Most of the reanimation targets are bulky so it's a nice way to recover life lost in a game.
Path of Discovery - This enchantment is quite interesting if I'm getting creatures into play or producing many zombie tokens. Being able to reveal the top card of my library while getting lands in hand, noncreature cards topdecked, or milling a creature. Although a noncreature spell, it's definitely worth testing
Pitiless Plunderer - Definitely worth considering. It turns all our death triggers into treasure tokens.
Played a 3DH game a couple of weeks ago against an Obzedat, Ghost Council creatureless control and Damia, Sage of Stone good stuff. The game lasted for almost 2 hours since both opponents' decks were also competitive. Control doesn't usually pose much of a problem for the Main Build (the deck I used) since I can usually reanimate things fairly easily. The board was also wrathed frequently, so that also added to the overall length of the match. The Obzedat player was locked out of using his commander when the Damia player cast Trickbind in response to Obzedat returning from exile. So Obzedat stayed in exile. Without ever changing zones, it couldn't return to the command zone. Once that happened, I knew my threat was going to be Damia.
The Damia player used a lot of clone and copy effects as well. So it was more like a copycat deck. During most of the match the Obzedat player was a problem so I would cast creatures that would also benefit Damia in order to be a bit political. For example, the Damia player had multiple copies of Rune-Scarred Demon in play thanks to mine. Most of the time I made it look like I was making mistakes all the time in order for the Obzedat player to not think I was helping out Damia. Most of Damia's attacks were against the Obzedat player.
I was able to triumph against the Damia player thanks to abusing Grimgrin, Corpse-Born's abilities. I would sacrifice Rune-Scarred Demon to untap it, then I would attack to kill off its creatures one at a time. Having Filth in the graveyard gave my creatures swampwalk. I would then reanimate Rune-Scarred Demon in order to keep tutoring for responses. Once I had that going the game was pretty much over.
It took me awhile to deal with these players because the Damia player copied my The Scarab God with Vesuvan Doppelganger and was exiling my creatures from my graveyard. However, once I dealt with that I was slowly but surely securing the victory with Filth. Luckily, I never needed Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth since both of my opponents has swamps in play.
I don't usually win this way, but it is possible to win the match thanks to the main combo of Filth + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. The deck does have things to more or less hinder other players. Since these opponents were light on creatures, being able to consistently kill them off one by one was the key to my victory. To date, it has been the win I had fought for the most to obtain.
Sorry for the lack of greater detail but the game was quite some time ago. Luckily, I just recently got internet back in my apartment, after 4 straight months. Hopefully I can now go about my hobbies as before.

Pretty sure Obzedat is like Norin where when you exile him you can instead send him to the command zone and his trigger will put him back in play as long as he doesn't change zones again.

I updated the deck lists and the pertinent card discussions to reflect the latest changes to the decks. These were the changes I've been discussing recently throughout the last couple of pages of the thread. Once Gatherer updates with Rivals of Ixalan I'll test the cards that I'm interested in from that set. Once I'm done with that, I'll post my findings. The upcoming update to the primer would be the Rivals of Ixalan card discussion.
Victimize is a great spell but it's a one use kind of thing. Journey to Eternity can protect a creature by automatically reanimating it. It then returns as Atzal, Cave of Eternity which can give me mana of any color or reanimate a creature. Since this swap is noncreature for noncreature I don't worry too much about it.
I'm still a bit leery as to making the Splendid Reclamation into World Shaper swap because the land effect on World Shaper requires it to die. I only have 6 cards in the deck to which I can sacrifice World Shaper to. So if I want to recover lands with it an opponent would have to kill it. Either way, I'm going to constantly be attacking with it so many an opponent will block it. Or it may just sit on the battlefield waiting to become a chump blocker. These are the things I want to test. The good thing about these swaps is that the net change in average CMC is 0.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
What would you cut for Path of Discovery? I got my hands on World Shaper and Journey to Eternity (and I guess I will follow your route on which cards to cut for them) and also the Path but I don't know what to cut for that. It was pretty strong in the prerelease and I feel like it will be even stronger in Sidisi. Embalmer's Tools maybe?
Path of Discovery seems to have a lot of promise. I have no doubt this card will perform amazingly well here. And I want to add it in but I don't know what to swap out for testing. As for cutting it out for Embalmer's Tools, I'm not too sure. Here's why:
- Embalmer's Tools costs only 2 which is easy to cast than 3G for Path of Discovery.
- It's ability is easier to activate since I can tap a zombie to potentially get another one. This gives my zombies that couldn't attack that turn something to do at the end of the turn before mine.
- It's easier to recur and tutor for Embalmer's Tools.
- With enough zombies, it's a viable wincon to mill an opponent instead of yourself.
The only thing that Embalmer's Tools is lacking when compared to Path of Discovery is that Path of Discovery could potentially "filter" that selfmill in the sense that lands would go to your hand, creatures would be milled, and anything else could remain on the top of the deck. The +1/+1 counter from exploring is unimportant to me. As far as the swap goes, I feel that Embalmer's Tools brings more to the table than Path of Discovery does. But it's such a great card and space is so tight as it is that I'm really finding a hard time looking for something to cut for it!
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Then the only other option I see for a swap is Sudden Reclamation.
It has the same cost but Path of Discovery stays on the board while Sudden Reclamation only mills once. Sure, it brings back a land and a creature, but Path of Discovery prevents nonland, noncreature cards from being milled. And it is noncreature for noncreature.
So this is my version I will test on friday:
I'm really liking that list! Does your playgroup have equally competitive decks?
You do have a good suggestion on a potential cut for Path of Discovery. I might just try that myself. I'm very interested to know how it goes for you when you test your updated list.

2 Seeker of Skybreak

Welcome to MTGSalvation!
Mox Diamond requires discarding a land and most of them are utility lands, which is why I run Expedition Map. Expedition Map isn't to fetch a land that can produce mana of any color; it's to get a land that does more than that. It's to get lands like Gaea's Cradle, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Volrath's Stronghold, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Cabal Coffers, etc.

What do we think of the newly spoiled Journey to Eternity and its transformed side? I think it's an auto-include.
It looks great because it becomes a very useful land. Although the ability's cost is a bit high, it's not difficult to pull off with Cabal Coffers + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Gaea's Cradle, and Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun giving you lots of mana. Also, with cards that untap lands, it makes it easier to reanimate more creatures per turn with it.
As far as it being an auto-include I don't think it's that impressive. I do see it as an auto-include in decks like Child of Alara lands.dec but for this deck, it'd be great to test. The problem is the same as before though: what do I cut to test? Also, it's not a creature, which is a downer, as well.

Howdy!
2 Seeker of Skybreak
6 Champion of Stray Souls
5 Genesis
7 Protean Hulk
3 Growing Rites of Itlimoc
5 The Scarab God
5 Liliana, Death's Majesty
5 Taigam, Sidisi's Hand
7 Protean Hulk
5 Conspiracy
3 Lord of the Accursed
3 Arcane Adaptation
These are the changes I want to test in the Main Build:
3 Victimize
4 Splendid Reclamation
3 Journey to Eternity
4 World Shaper
I'm still a bit leery as to making the Splendid Reclamation into World Shaper swap because the land effect on World Shaper requires it to die. I only have 6 cards in the deck to which I can sacrifice World Shaper to. So if I want to recover lands with it an opponent would have to kill it. Either way, I'm going to constantly be attacking with it so many an opponent will block it. Or it may just sit on the battlefield waiting to become a chump blocker. These are the things I want to test. The good thing about these swaps is that the net change in average CMC is 0.

It has the same cost but Path of Discovery stays on the board while Sudden Reclamation only mills once. Sure, it brings back a land and a creature, but Path of Discovery prevents nonland, noncreature cards from being milled. And it is noncreature for noncreature.

You do have a good suggestion on a potential cut for Path of Discovery. I might just try that myself. I'm very interested to know how it goes for you when you test your updated list.
