Ya, I just slotted in a rift just because it honestly seemed foolish not to play. Profaner of the Dead made it clear wiping the board usually spells out game over. Probably going to take Shadowborn Demon's slot just because he hasn't been doing much for me lately.
I like Replica. At its worst you can throw it under the bus to chump and draw a couple cards. Can't say I'm ever sad to see it.
Riders are a new addition to my deck, and I've yet to draw them. I don't want to run a Strip Mine or Wasteland but sometimes there's a Maze of Ith, or a Coffers, or Cradle that needs to be answered. I'd much rather have Riders over Mage. 1) It's 4 CMC, so you can transmute/transfigure for it (besides the other tutoring options). 2) It has haste, so immediate counter potential (and if you're able to take advantage, then the echo can be a benefit). 3) Costs a lot less $$$. 4) Being able to hit a basic sometimes means you can cut an opponent off a color. The other option to me would be Goblin Settler.
I like Crystal Ball. I originally started using it because I was only running "on color" fetches in my decks and fewer tutors. If you can't shuffle away bad cards, then I think Crystal Ball is better than SDT. I now find myself w/ more ways to shuffle my deck, so possibly Top should find a place here, but I've come to like Crystal Ball. Not being able to draw a card off it doesn't really matter when you aren't running many instants (especially counterspells).
How does Moriok Replica work for you? It was the most interesting card on your list I haven't tested. I ran Avalanche Riders for a while but it bought me too much hate cause there were never really any good utility lands to hit so he'd always just get a basic. Now I face a lot more troublesome lands like Shrine of Nyxos in mono green. Think its a worthy replacement for Fuliminator Mage til i get it? I remember getting him to really stick was rough.
Crystal Ball is really interesting too..I like my Grenzo, Dungeon Warden and used to run it for him. Maybe ill test it out again because honestly its more functional than top in this deck.
I don't have a Fulminator Mage yet (c'mon MM2!) so I've been subbing in what I consider subpar replacements for now. The two I've been oscillating between are Ravenous Baboons and Avalanche Riders. Currently I'm running baboons because a) he's not a human for mikaeus and b) I don't like forced upkeep sacrifice since it is the worst time for me to sacrifice and at some point riders is going to force me to make a choice between paying another 4 to keep him around or letting him go for good. There is no argument from me that either is anywhere near as good as Fulminator but until I get it which do you guys prefer? Did you consider both of them when deciding?
Also Moriok Replica is interesting, never saw him before. Little card draw on a stick that you can activate immediately isn't bad at all.
What do you guys think of Youthful Scholar. With all the sac outlets in the deck should not be a problem to kill him. Compared to Moriok Replica it cost one more and is a human but with your sac outlets not wasting mana for the cost and the life (granted the life loss may be a pro for the Replica).

Huh. I did not know Ravenous Baboons even existed. I might need to get me one. The 1 CMC difference between Mage & the alternatives doesn't really convince me that Mage is significantly better though.
I picked up a Youthful Scholar thinking about putting it in, but Replica wasn't something I really considered cutting for it. Mostly it seemed like a Mulldrifter replacement, but I think Mulldrifter is better. Sure, it costs 1 more, but you get the cards ASAP and it can be evoked cheaply if you need it. The synergy w/ Sage of Fables is nice though.
For fulminator - its not really the 1 cmc difference, in fact that's not totally a benefit. Yes he's cheaper but at the coat of being less tutorable.
Its more the fact that you get to choose when to shoot. You can shoot on etb if you want but you dont have to. And everytime you do shoot you get to do it again. Its the best of both worlds, you get the lasting creature like baboons and the retrigger benefit of the riders and all on your schedule.
Its also horribly broken with sage of fables and pretty bad with unspeakable symbol as well.
I too am really hoping to see Fulminator Mage in MM2. I preordered a box at my LGS and the chance of pulling a Fulminator will go a long way towards determining whether I'll crack the box or resell it sealed.

Seeing Fulminator Mage as a mythic as a Tron player pleases me. I do like these spoilers so far though. Considering buying a box for 220 euros..
where did we get confirmation of fulminator mage as a mythic?
the source just said it was in but it wasn't in his list of mythics\
I'm hoping it gets bumped down to uncommon, because there's no reason why it should be a $40 card
We don't have confirmation that it's a mythic, but we also don't have all the mythics. The mockup is just a quick and dirty thing with what I had in the Rumor Mill PSD template, which is going to need a LOT of work for this set before I get the rest of the mockups ready.
So were safe so far. All those unconfirmed are coming from this one post on the same thread. I'm not sure what confidence we have in this guy since there doesn't appear to be any photo proof but supposedly he had a good leak for mm1
Teferi is ok, but honestly Im with welgo, three of any color is a bit much unless we are trying for mikeaus, which has a drastically high impact in comparison. I dont think Teferi has as much impact as the deck requires.

Or Necropotence, which absolutely stole a game for me recently (although we're still talking BBB here, so my point is moot). Either way, I think the deck is better positioned to put triple black together than triple blue, and we need to be accumulating mass amounts of red for Sneak Attack to boot. Adding any UUU requirements short of "UUU: Win the game" could get messy.

I recently got together enough cards to assemble a Marchesa deck and yesterday I had the opportunity to get in another 2 games. One with 5 the other with 4 players total, managed to win both. After a total of 5 or 6 games I can say the Deck is fun and feels powerful, but not overpowered. But I still have to played it more often, I still haven't got around to use a lot of the cards in the deck.
First game with 5 players was long and grindy. At one point late in the game the control player who had drawn a crapload of cards over the course of the game through his Rhystic Studies kicked a Rite of Replication onto a Terastodon. The 5 elephants destroyed the board of another player completely (except for one thing...) and a few other things too. Control guy wanted to get rid of the elephant tokens through his Steel Hellkite, but somehow missed Dragonloard Ojutai! In a fierce battle both dragons died.
Over the next two turns or so elephants stomped the control player down to 1 life and it seemed that he had stabelized cause nobody could attack him without all their guys just dying. But then I topdecked the best and most satisfying Tuktuk Scrapper ever! Other guy who had no board besides 5 elephant tokens scooped after that and with only me and two other guys remaining I drew Thalakos Deceiver the next turn to steal the biggest baddy from the mono-green ramp guy each turn. Game ended shortly after that.
In the second game with 3 players besides me I was beaten down to 11 life after 6 rounds, but a Buried Alive followed by Living Death the next turn helped me get back in through Gray Merchant and Urabrask (also had Marchesa put in my graveyard scheming this). What totally sealed the game was another guy playing my Living Death via Diluvian Primordial, while I had a Carrion Feeder wich he overlooked. I drew 17 cards that turn through River Kelpie and Mulldrifter and the next turn Martón came down and ended it.
Best cards that evening were Carrion Feeder, Urabrask and River Kelpie for me. Oh, and Hall of the Bandit Lord was really good as well, haste is just so good to have and it's fixing my life total too.
Managed to trade for a Baleful Strix too, wich now replaces Pain Seer.
Has anyone tried / had success with Murderous Redcap? I was considering including him but couldn't find any discussion on him here and thought that was odd.
Has anyone tried / had success with Murderous Redcap? I was considering including him but couldn't find any discussion on him here and thought that was odd.
I'd say its a Meta call, If there are a lot of utility creatures that you play against it should be pretty good, but saying that you could just find a card that destroys something when ETB.
Any ideas on how to deal with graveyard hate? My playgroup with 4-5 people on it has tons of it, mostly because my deck. There are leyline of the voids and relic of progenitus, with some rest in peace added to the mix. A large part of my deck has to be dedicated to removal of this stuff but I have trouble finding effective ways to do it and in half of the games my deck is effectively shut down for the whole end game.
My deck is not even clearly over powered compared to them. It is just so easy to add a cheap graveyard hate to the deck and a clear counter to marchesa trickery.
Yea I see a lot of this too now. It's definitely annoying. To me there are tiers:
Relic of Progenitus, Tormod's Crypt, Bojuka Bog - These are the easiest to deal with. They are annoying but they are all basically single use (unless you let the relic player get your graveyard down too far, then that can be bad). Generally as long as you don't overcommit to your graveyard on any one turn you should be fine. This is why it is a little risky to sac-cycle your guys on an opponents turn. Do it but avoid cycling your team. If there's a wrath then oh well, they got you, it happens sometimes.
Leyline of the Void, Containment Priest, Grafdigger's Cage, Scavenging Ooze, Withered Wretch - These are bad. They can really shut you out with any of these. Fortunately we have ways to deal with all of them. Creatures we have lots of solutions for steal-sac or just outright kill. Cage we have the Scrapper for. And if a leyline of the void hits go get Aura Thief right away. This is why we run a complete toolkit. And sometimes you won't be able to get to the right tool, it sucks but it happens. In that case just play around with it as best you can, they may have turned off marchesa but you still can get a solid team of creatures.
Rest in Peace - This card. God I hate this card. First of all if you took it out put Chaos Warp back in. Venser, Shaper Savant can give you a temporary reprieve that can become permanent if in response to a wheel, same with Clutch of the Undercity. Dualcaster Mage and Goblin Flectomancer can get lucky at times. Cyclonic Rift is never a bad call either if you want to slot it in, great utility for situations like these and game-ending bomb later. In all honesty though, this card really really sucks and it can unfortunately spell game-over a lot. Your going to have to focus on it to survive, get creative. Also remember, killing a player's face is the easiest way to exile everything they have. Sometimes that can be more important than dethrone.
I dunno about you guys, but if my group started metagaming specifically against me by playing absurd amounts of GY-hate, I'd probably tweak the deck to be all-in, lightning-fast, resilient combo. It'd probably be less fun that way, but I'd be willing to deal with the fallout.

I'm thinking about giving Flesh Carver a whirl in my deck. Being a Wizard, a sacrifice outlet (albeit one you have to pay for) that can put counters on itself, replacing itself when it dies, and having a bit of evasion attached makes it seem like it could be a good fit for the deck.
