I'd like to solicit a little feedback on my Sigarda deck. It's a decent performer, meant to be moderately competitive but fairly themely - almost everything is enchantments, even the removal, very little instant/sorcery stuff. I made a few concessions to effectiveness (krosan grip, nature's lore), but I'm not willing to go full spike on the deck. My style is generally low tutors (eladamri's call, sterling grove and Academy rector is it here; not loading up on idyllic, enlightened, etc). My general budget is 50-60 bucks a card max.
What I'd like is some general thoughts on stuff that doesn't seem to you like it would work, or anything strictly better that I'm missing, or any ideas on moving it in a slightly different direction.
1) Conviction - durdly, slower than broken fall which is way cool.
2) Karmic Justice - durdly, but does often provide a serious disincentive to sweep (since if you sweep my enchantments, I blow up all your lands like a jerk)
3) Creeping Renaissance - it's awesome, it flashes back which goes with my recursion subtheme, but it's a spell. Thinking of replacing with Sigil of the New Dawn or something similar.
4) Ghostblade eidolon - too slow, not as good as battle mastery even though I wanted it to be.
5) Life from the Loam - at one point I ran crucible as my only other artifact beside sol ring, and it never disappointed, but loaming has often proved too slow a way to set up for a replenish.
6) Mana bloom - durdly as hell, if I start doing it with enchantresses out people get annoyed at me
7) Ordeal of Nylea - as cool as it is to go off with Gavony Township and stuff, it just is usually slow. People blow it up in rage for the same reason Khalni Heart expedition generates more rage than Farseek.
8) Terramorphic/Evolving - they have been very nice with khalni-heart expedition, life from the loam, etc. These were more there for when I had a crucible in the deck which was pretty sweet. They might be better off as other duals, or even basics. I could consider springing for a couple off-color fetches I guess.
9) Eidolon of Countless Battles - I swapped him in because he was neat, but i actually don't have that many auras, and I think the Ancestral Mask he replaced might be just better (I've had Sigarda in the 30/30 range before:P).
Some cards on my consideration list from Jou and others
Banishing light
Skybind
Font of Fertility
Market Festival
Utopia Sprawl
Ajani, Mentor of Heroes
Reviving Melody (hey, it's card advantage most of the time)
Moldervine Cloak (dredgey enchantment and makes sigarda closer to lethal)
Oath of Druids - fills up my graveyard, fishes out my creatures since I always have the fewest, and generally makes open the vaults shenanigans happen
Sigil of the New Dawn - another non-aura way to protect Sigarda (and my other dorky enchantresses)
Spirit Loop - rancor lifelink for cheap, seems potentially good if I can find a slot
Porphyry Nodes - combos very nicely with Heliod which I can tutor out, but otherwise is lame
Suppression Field - I have almost no activated abilities, it's basically going to fill people with rage however
Eidolon of blossoms - a cantripping enchantress that lets me draw my deck if I land a replenish is awesome.
Dictate of Karametra - flashing it in at the end of someone's turn before going off seems good. Less negative tempo than mana reflection, but probably not worth it.
Stony Silence - it's just really, really good and rarely hurts me.
Nature's Will - I picked up a playset of these because they're kamigawa rares and I needed one for Edric, might be good. That said if I'm swinging with Sigarda it's usually close to game, but I could swing at undefended people with my dorks for value too.
Sigil of the Empty Throne -When I ran this I could never get it to go off, but I lent my deck to someone and he promptly made like 30 angels and drew his deck with Rancor and Thaumatog. I think it might be better than luminarch ascension which for some reason I can never get to go off either. Not having instant speed removal makes it really hard to trigger.
Needs more artifact hate since you aren't running artifacts (stony silence, null rod, damping matrix)
Consider looking st the sigarda enchantress primer for ideas of what you could run for more of a hate oriented build to make sure that sigarda hits the field
Yeah, I've been through the primer pretty extensively and tried to get to the amount of hate that is right for my playgroup. Since I don't run enlightened tutor, the artifact artifact hate doesn't work but stony silence might be OK. People tend to get really grouchy about it though, which is why I went with Titania's song instead--people get a laugh out of swinging with their 9/9 darksteel forge. I might start running stony again I guess though
I had auratog in there and he might be better than faith healer, but I'm not sure. Thaumatog is nice because he lets me sac lands as well if needed (e.g. Riftstone portal). I like that faith healer provides some lifegain and has much nicer art.
So as far as I can tell from comments online Karmic Justice does in fact wreck one's face in the event of an enchantment sweep, but how exactly rules-wise does that work? Why do I get to blow stuff up if someone Tranquilities with a Karmic Justice online but I can't draw a bunch of cards when someone Wraths with Harvester of Souls on board?
They both work the same; if someone wraths and you have harvester out, you draw a ton of cards. At least as near as I can tell from reading it. Things all die and see each other die.
Similar to Grave Betrayal; if you akroma's vengeance with a grave betrayal out, you are getting a ton of other people's dudes.
If a bunch of things happen simultaneously in MTG, triggered abilities all trigger. Like genesis wave triggering a bunch of ETBs or whatever. The triggers go on the stack in a particular order but they "see" everything that would trigger simultaneously.
603.6d: Normally, objects that exist immediately after an event are checked to see if the event matched any trigger conditions. Continuous effects that exist at that time are used to determine what the trigger conditions are and what the objects involved in the event look like. However, some triggered abilities must be treated specially. Leaves-the-battlefield abilities, abilities that trigger when a permanent phases out, abilities that trigger when an object that all players can see is put into a hand or library, abilities that trigger specifically when an object becomes unattached, abilities that trigger when a player loses control of an object, and abilities that trigger when a player planeswalks away from a plane will trigger based on their existence, and the appearance of objects, prior to the event rather than afterward. The game has to "look back in time" to determine if these abilities trigger.
Example: Two creatures are on the battlefield along with an artifact that has the ability "Whenever a creature dies, you gain 1 life." Someone plays a spell that destroys all artifacts, creatures, and enchantments. The artifact's ability triggers twice, even though the artifact goes to its owner's graveyard at the same time as the creatures.
So in fact I should have been drawing cards from Wrath with Harvester of Souls in play, making rats from an Ogre Slumlord, etc. And we can add "blowing up dude's lands" to that list as I'm certainly now adding Karmic Justice to my Sigarda deck
Well, I agree that replenish is better, but without any way of tutoring sorceries it's important to run both -- and why I run retether too, even though it's not as good (retether onto kor spiritdancer has won me games :)).
