Gisa and Geralf should best be thought of as a zombie tribal version of Karador. The effects are quite similar, and GG ends up costing roughly what Karador normally would.

I might switch out Ghoulcaller Gisa for Gisa and Geralf as it is the only card I can see cutting at the moment. I will have to test things when I get a copy.

Haven't been playing much Grimgrin as of late as I have been trying to finish getting most of the cards I need for three new(er) decks while scrapping the pieces of 2 older decks I don't have fun with anymore. The two main ones being Marath, Will of the Wild and Atarka, World Render and one secret one I haven't posted a list for yet.

What's your guys' opinions if the new Liliana for Grimgrin?

Quick question for Mr. Grimgrin, AKA MaelstromX.

I recently built a Grimgrin deck because one of my friends started playing Honor-Worn Shaku in a Norin the Wary deck and I realized that Grimgrin can do STUPID things with it. The original combo I had in mind was Grimgrin, Corpse-Born + Honor-Worn Shaku + Geralf's Messenger + Novijen Sages = Draw your deck + That Many ETB's for Geralf's Messenger. Later on, I came to notice that Geralf's Messenger + Sage of Fables + Ashnod's Altar does essentially the same thing.

Long story short, have you considered Geralf's Messenger? It seems like it would fit really nicely into the rooftop storm/curio combo since it becomes infinite damage as well.

I haven't had much of a chance to play magic in a while.... yada yada... Anyways long story short the secret deck that i have been working on is another zombie deck. It is no where near ready to be posted yet (i haven't chosen colour(s) yet) but the reason for a second zombie deck is to have a less competitive deck and there is a ton of stuff i want to play but they wouldn't make the cut for Grimgrin. So there are six cards that i like and only three of them i will be eventually testing for Grimgrin. Here are the six and what decks they are going/testing for.

@Aatucus: I like her a lot but I don't think she is good in Grimgrin.

@GummiBurz: Geralf's Messenger was in the original inception of the deck but i replaced him with Gary. The triple black and its only a single player targeted made me chose Gary over the messenger.

I hope i have time to play/test soon i have been getting the itch since the end of June.

I have decided to test Gisa and Geralf and Graf Harvest for this deck but as to when that will happen i am not sure.

Have taken the last almost year off from playing as i have been traveling throughout Canada and USA. Just enjoying the sights and such. Anyways I am back home and decided to give an update and make a change to the deck.

So here you go.

-1 Siren of the Silent Song +1 Plague Belcher.

Siren of the Silent Song has been on my to cut list since last year but there hasn't been a suitable replacement until now.
Plague Belcher acts as a second Vengeful Dead.

After playing/testing over the past few weeks I feel some more changes are in order so here we go...

-1 Liliana, Heretical Healer +1 Lord of the Accursed
-1 Eldrai Monument +1 Leyline of the Void
-1 Sensei's Divining Top +1 Counterspell
-1 Frozen Aether +1 Living Death

Just adding a few more control elements while removing some of the cards that haven't worked as well as I have been hoped.

Also Lord of the Accursed may become Graf Harvest depending how things go.

The main attraction that I have for Graf Harvest is it's casting cost and it just gives you menace, I generally wouldn't want to use the second ability of Graf Harvest. Lord of the Accursed can give menace but at a cost (albeit a minor one). I will be testing both to see how things go.

I have looked at Liliana's Mastery but it is not something that I will be adding considering for 1 more mana I can cast Grave Titan which to me is so much better.

I will be adding The Scarab God to the deck and there is a slim chance that Accursed Horde may be added.


I will be testing the new cards as soon as i can get a hold of them.

Done quite a bit of play testing so here we go.

The only card I'm iffy about is Fatesticher but it didn't make the final cut.

Leyline of the Void nerfs a lot of my decks recursion/hate that targets my opponents (including the newly added The Scarab God). Plus Throne is freaking nuts with tokens and Faces of the Past.

As one of my primary ways to win is through lifeloss/drain I figured Undermine would be a suitable upgrade as the three life loss has helped a lot during play testing.

As for Darkwater Catacombs I plain just forgot about it until recently when I was looking through my Commander 2016 stuff.

Are most of the ETB zombies just there for loopable combos? Cackling Fiend, Gravedigger, Grave Defiler and so on. They seem just a little weird to me as you have probably already won the game if you are looping these.

Also is Pull from Tomorrow not just a better draw spell all around than Read the Runes? I also wonder if Forbidden Alchemy is just a better card for whats going on.

The ETB Zombies are there for their utility, the ability to go infinite is not the reason I added them.

Pull from Tomorrow is a better card. I just completely missed it.

Also I have tried Forbidden Alchemy but i never liked it.

I have decide to take out the combo section temporarily so i can fix it in my spare time (which is lacking these days).

I have a few updates for the deck so here we go.

-1 Shizo, Death's Storehouse +1 Torment of Hailfire

Gisa - I needed a bit of fixing and Gisa is not as prominent as she use to be
Shizo - Always been wanting to draw something else when i see it. Torment is another element of control that makes my opponents think harder :D.

I am on the fence on whether i like Akroma's Memorial or Eldrazi Monument more, either way one of them with stay in the deck just haven't decide on which.

Really like this concept. I built this deck inspired from this post. Bit more on the tribal side and a bit cheaper as well. Just curious, why no cavern of souls, path of ancestry, or unclaimed territory?

Cavern of Souls is not in because how much it costs.

Path of Ancestry wasn't added as I tend to have a strong dislike to tapped lands.

As for Unclaimed Territory, I decided against it as it doesn't work well enough with the non-creature spells in the deck.

I really like Grimgrin as my commander chief of flavour/play stile.

I was wondering if you might be able to share some of the recent combos that you find to be essential for the deck, other than those listen in the original primer and that might perhaps be newer additions to the deck
