MTG Salvation

So long time lurker my brother got me into commander in a big way and it fit the assortment of cards I was randomly collecting.

We came across Vorel and a Lux Cannon centric casual multi-player was already kinda in the works so I asked him and he said sure take the stuff and make a Simic Commander out of Vorel.

The thing we wanted to avoid however was just spawning a bunch of tokens and overrunning people with damage so it became about finding all the weird counters out there and building the machine of doom.



There are things I am still looking to get for it.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Gilder Bairn

Clock Spinning Has been an all-star for me in decks that aren't counter focused. The mana cost is a bit too prohibitive to stave off a Luminarch Ascension for more than a turn or two, but it randomly kills opposing planeswalkers, strengthens yours, helps anything else that likes counters, and often interacts favorably in some way for you with whatever your opponent brings.

Oooo I like that one.

Either Rings of Brighthearth or Illusionist's Bracers tend to go well with Vorel/Gilder Bairn shenanigans.

I've got a Vorel deck as well and I've a few suggestions for ya, if you're willing.

First, add a few things and remove one. I'd cut the Mystic Genesis and replace it with Plasm Capture and Draining Whelk. I ran Mystic Genesis for awhile and always found it both really expensive and not very good. The token doesn't do anything that I wanted it to do (it wasn't double-able via Vorel). On the other hand, the Whelk goes from big to HUGE with Vorel around and is a nice "surprise!" card. The Capture on the other hand turns their spells into your mana, which is something I've always found Vorel to badly need. The deck really wants mana. Like, a lot of mana.

Second, if you want some funny counters, try out the Chimera cycle from Visions. Additionally, give the Mana Batteries a try. Both are surprisingly fun to play with.

Third, a few random bombs: Awakening, Kazandu Tuskcaller, Doubling Season, and City of Shadows all have been all-stars for me. The City is the worst of these four and takes some effort to get running, but I really do love it.

Hope you have fun with the Vorel machine. He's an awesome general and makes a fun deck!

Those are some interesting suggestions, the Chimera's don't really work because I wanted to deliberately avoid just pumping creatures to swing with (although when in a pinch it is fun).

Still looking for some of the cards and sadly haven't found that Gilder Bairn yet.

Deck has went through some pretty massive changes and now I think I have gotten it to a very nice place. The only thing I would look to improve is the mana base / individual cards now.
