Has anyone discussed using Yavimaya Hollow? It seems like a fantastic land choice since board wipes are always a threat to keeping Animar on the field (or another more valuable creature).
Fyndhorn, Llanowar, and Mystic don't accelerate turn 2 Animar consistently enough to warrant their inclusion over a more relevant two or three drop. Think about it. You have to draw a land that taps for green and another colour in your first 8 cards (7 if you're going first) plus one of the mana dorks. Couple that with the fact that mana dorks that don't tap for blue are a bad play after turn 1 and I think you seriously need to reconsider the one drop suit. Birds is an all-star, primarily because it's always a live play (since it can tap for U). Plus it has flying, which is more relevant than not since the primary way to win with Animar is combat damage.
Yavimaya Hollow seems very mediocre for a land that doesn't tap for U or have Forest in its type line. Most of the good removal gets around Regeneration somehow, and I really don't like a lands that just tap for colorless. Zoetic Cavern is playable because it enables an infinite combo (with a land slot!). Winding Canyon is in because it basically says "2: Target player skips their turn".
That's really sweet Jonas! I am going to have to buy the large card and copy you
The Hanna player in my playgroup has decided he's tired of my animar shenanigans, so he now plays Overburden, when he finds plenty of way to put onto the board on turn 2. This basically shuts me down, and I either wait to draw ench destruction creature or try to sequence around it.... Pretty annoying.
I'm glad never having faced Overburden. Yikes.
Success with your copying, Purp! I only wish now I made it so that his elbow stuck out of the box a bit.
Did someone of you ever try the Renegade Krasis?
It seems interesting because it pumps Animar as it evolves, but due to the two specific mana cost (and the 3/2 starting stats) it may be too slow...
Renegade Krasis isn't fast or efficient enough. You don't really want things that put extra counters on Animar after turn 3 or 4. By that point Animar should be generating enough counters by himself that you don't need to do anything other than generate cards and mana, and obviously protect Animar.
@ Marquisd: What intriguing possibilities? There's only three playable cards spoiled and they're all garbage in Animar.
It depends on what happens with Bolster but I can see it being interesting, If nothing else it can help rebuild animar after he's been removed you wouldn't want a lot, but there may be something that might be useful. Ugin yeah the minus is no good for standard Animar (even though we probably will have a lot of our creatures still standing if we do a minute 4 or less) but potentially in a more artifact creature build but that ultimate is fun. (you don't have to play creatures you can play all the lands you draw then cast the rest. It probably doesn't work but if I crack one I might try it)
With all the permanents you run, I've seen Nykthos be very effective in these decks. Tempt with Discovery is a ramp spell that can really get there on combo-turn, especially if you grab Cradle or under the right circumstances Nykthos.

nykthos is awful in this deck. we run 3 colors and dont really use colorless mana. i cannot see nykthos netting anymana that i would want those other two lands tap for
Spoiler season for Fate Reforged is coming out! I found some good potentials for my own Animar deck so far:
Torrential Spirit 4U
Creature - Elemental [Mythic Rare]
Flying
When Torrential Spirit attacks, tap each creature defending player controls.
[3][G/B][G/B]: Put Torrential Spirit onto the battlefield tapped from exile. Activate this ability only when you could activate a sorcery.
3/5
Sorcerer of the Hunt 3R
Creature - Orc Shaman [Mythic Rare]
Haste
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
Ferocious - [2][G/U][G/U]: Draw a card for each creature with power 4 or greater you control.
Frontier Siege 3G
Enchantment - [Rare]
As Frontier Siege enters the the battlefield choose Khans or Dragons.
Khans: At the beginning of each of your main phases, add GG to your mana pool.
Dragons: Whenever a creature with flying enters the battlefield under your control, you may have it fight target creature you don't control.
What do you guys think? Of course these are not auto-in cards, but just potential Happy New Years!
Sorcerer of the hunt could be good, but I don't normally win by attacking. Torrential spirirt cant be played in the deck unfortunatly because of the B in the ability.
Does everyone still play Equilibrium and Words? I find most of the time, I never want to cast them, and I win without them...
Sorcerer of the Hunt is not bad but I don't think I'd have free mana for the activated ability, outside of an infinite mana combo.
I don't play Equilibrium or Words of Wind. My decklist is closer to the Imperial Animar 1v1 decklist with some changes to make it better in multiplayer.
Why not run beguiler of wills to control your opponents boards. Especially with kamahl fist of krosa and an untap engine you could steal all their lands
Equilibrium is Cloudstone Curio which can hit artifacts. It's a necessary enabler in some builds but generally Cloudstone is enough.
On spoilers:
Shaman of the Hunt looks amazing, worth considering as a Fathom Mage-esque mid-curve draw engine. Attacking is easy with Animar (thanks to double protection) and one of the best ways to win. The card draw is exactly what you want once you have an infinite engine going, reducing the need for other cantrippers. Shaman is #1 on my list of cards from this set, and I have no doubt it will win me several games over the coming months.
Frontier Siege isn't even worth looking at.
Whisperwood Elementel looks interesting, primarily for the second ability blanking every board wipe in your opponents' hands. Manifest isn't bad for us (although it's no Morph), as most of our permanents are creatures which we'll be able to flip.

I think Whisperwood Elemental depends on just how big your curve is and how many of your creatures have ETB effects. As for Shaman yeah he's pretty awesome. Having him in might just be worth looking at if Psychosis Crawler should go back in the deck.
Flamerush Rider looks interesting would be really fun with a malignus, he's probably too small, that being said Dash seems like a mechanic that could work really well with Animar, shame it's only in red.
Why Psychosis Crawler? Dash seems very meh in Animar, but not everything has been spoiled so there could be spmething worthwhile.
I think that the Dash mechanic in a vacuum could potentially good. After all, we want to constantly have creatures enter the battlefield, and the mana reduction means we really only care about the colored mana symbols. If they made a creature with either flash (unlikely since it is supposed to be an attacking mechanic) or a card drawing ability that would work out great for us. However, I think that in reality, the card draw would be tied to combat damage, so this wouldn't work out well. Without a decent ETB effect dash will not be a useful mechanic.
Can someone give me any reason not to auto include Temur Sabertooth? It can do so much for us, infinite mana with Palinchron/Great Whale/Peregrin Drake. Survive a board boardwipe while potentially saving several others. Saves any of our creatures from spot removal. Save Animar from a tuck effect.
SonofaBith - Wizards was so excited about making the packaging for Modern Masters 2 recyclable, they decided to make most of the rares and all but 1 of the UC's recycle-bin ready too. Convenient!
It's not bad, but I think if you really want a bounce creature, Man o' war or invasive species is better as you can cast it a little earlier if you need to. A bounce creature is usually used to help put counters on Animar so you usually want to end up bouncing your 2 or 3 drops
No, bounce creatures are there to enable combos or to reactivate ETB effects. Putting an extra counter on Animar is largely trivial. Temur Sabretooth initially looks interesting until you consider the costs involved. 1GGG is the minimum cost to get a single activation (assuming you want to activate it the turn you play it), which is four times the cost of most of our other bounce effects. Not to mention the triple G probably exhausting all our green mana for the turn. Cloudstone Curio does the same thing for free, and Equilibrium does it for just 1 (plus triggering off artifact creatures). I could see the Sabretooth competing in that slot, but the high demand for green and the activation cost of 2 really put me off. Its most interesting application will no doubt come in all-creature Animar builds, which previously had a hard time going infinite.
