I've been playing this deck weekly again at my local card shop. usually 8-16 players. wizards B&R and i've done fantastic. winning two events and top fouring in every one. tishana, voice of thunder is seriously the best draw spell ever.there is no reason to play prime speaker zegana over this and it takes soooo much pressure off of skullclamp and further reduces the need to include artisan of kozilek. it makes summoner's pact an auto include and gives players in my meta(no prime time) a good mid combo fierce empath target. It usually draws for 7 and if you hit a bounce/clone its pretty much over. it does make you want more access to large mid combo ramp like craddle, earthcraft and peregrine drake. rishkar, peema renegade has done well here. costing G it usually produces me GG but has produced GGG mid combo. I'm surprised there isn't more discussion over prosperous pirates. it seems to net excess mana like a rattleclaw mystic or cloud of fairies its just a tad higher up the curve. and did anyone ever mention Mausoleum wanderer here? goes great with chord of calling, bond beetle, artic merfolk, pendlehaven and lots of other Animar utility.

URGANIMARURG In the folklore of its plane, the Animar is the ultimate source of all life—the seed from which all creation grows. In the presence of Animar, crops blossom and herds thrive, and the wake of its wanderings determines the course of the seasons.

Would you mind to share your list? I´m starting to build my own list and I´d love to see your ideas. Thank you in advance.
What are the thoughts on Riverwise Augur? It fills the same role as Sea Gate Oracle/Raven Familiar, and is even arguably more powerful. I run all the typical bounce effects for Animar, so in the right circumstances I could see him generating tons of card advantage, but 4 for a Brainstorm on a stick seems overcosted, even if we can typically rely on Animar's cost reduction.
I guess the question is, will he generate enough reliable CA to warrant a slot over similar proven alternatives?

In my experience you won't be recasting him much but if you do actually do it two or three times it won't be for the full 3U. Might be worthy, I would playtest it.
If you can reliably shuffle, Riverwise Augur will provide excellent card selection and advantage. Without the shuffle, it's more akin to drawing a single card, as it doesn't dig deeper into the deck, unlike Sea Gate Oracle and Raven Familiar.
I wouldn't be inclined to replace either the Oracle or Familiar with this, since it has a higher CMC so is more reliant on Animar to be efficient, but if you can fit it in addition to those, then it's worth testing.
Its a good card and seems a shoe in for budget versions of animar but I honestly dont know what i would cut for it.

SonofaBith - Wizards was so excited about making the packaging for Modern Masters 2 recyclable, they decided to make most of the rares and all but 1 of the UC's recycle-bin ready too. Convenient!
But is it's cumulative value better than Forgotten Ancient or Xengod triggers?
I don't run Xenagos but it does warrant discussion over Forgotten Ancient. Guess it might be meta-specific. Is it easier or harder to remove an enchantment vs. a creature?

Probably harder to remove an enchantment, given the colour scheme.
Do like that Hadana's Climb, when flipped, gives Animar evasion and a buff. Could be good commander death. I just really struggle to include non creatures in Animar.
Wanted to make a case for the inclusion of Etali, Primal Storm. So it triggers on attack, not on connecting any damage which I think is important (and one of the reasons I don't include in my Animar build cards like Trygon Predator).
In a multiplayer commander game it can potentially net you several free cards from your opponent's decks. This can disrupt top deck manipulation (you get your opponent's Sensei's Divining Top!) in addition to some free creatures and non creatures. But notice that Etali says "cast," so if you cast your opponent's creatures for free, Animar is still getting counters.
Etali also casts from YOUR top deck. So the chance of casting a big fat fatty of your own is high. And, of course, it's a "may" trigger. Thoughts?

I agree, it's a non-creature and it's a slow way of getting +1/+1 counters. It's easy to flip, but then you're paying 3 mana for a land and potentially ramp. Once Animar gets going having enough power to kill with Commander damage is easy, so the buff is going to be win-more quite often. Kessig Wolf Run is probably comparable, and probably better.

I personally avoid combat triggers, since usually you don't get many combat steps before you win. Etali offers card advantage, but it's random based on what your opponents have, and remember you will a lot of the time you will simply hit lands. I imagine it will be quite fun, but less effective than a card which lets you do exactly what you need it to do.
Just wanted to thank you Gelf for this primer. I know it's older, but, still, it really helps us noobs step up our decks. I play against more expereience players, so, to have a nice explanation of the deck sure helps me build the deck, but, play it as well.
I put Growing Rites of Itlimoc in for Gaes cradle, as Gaes cradles is incredibly expensive.
How about Kederekt Leviathan? It's a creature, and a board wipe that bounces creatures ..
And Sakashima??
Also, I know the deck protects Animar, but, what Cloudstone Curio. Seems kinda essential that the artifact stays protected..

Kederekt Leviathan also bounces Animar, which sets back your virtual mana considerably, but I do play it in other decks. It has the advantage of being usable from the graveyard as well in a pinch, so well worth considering if highly situational. Usually targeted bounce ends up repeatable enough that the mass bounce offered by Leviathan is only worthwhile if you're trying to disable hexproof or shroud locks.
Sakashima the Impostor is pretty much a fancy clone, and while clones aren't bad, they are only ever as good as what is already on the board. I tend to avoid clones for this reason. That said, Sakashima at least can bounce itself, which can be handy.
Well as much as im lovin dominaria I sadly dont see anything for this deck in it.

I dont know about you guys but Generous Patron seems to be a pretty solid card for this deck. It draws you cards and puts up to two counters on animar. I could see some issues depending on meta about there being issues with putting counters on opponents creatures but that shouldn't be that much of a problem.

Fixed that for you.
I'm more interested in stadium vendors. Potential for infinite mana if you can find a way to bounce it. Too bad Tidespout Tyrant is a cast trigger and not etb.
It has support 2 so it can put a counter on animar and something else. That would draw you a card and put get two counters on animar. You can also take the option of drawing 2 supposing there are other creatures out.

Bit risky to rely on this as card draw, as it requires an opponent to have a creature or two out to support. I think the problem here is that it is quite situational, sometimes it will be great, other times it won't really do anything. I'd prefer reliable card draw.
May be situationally better than Duplicant since it hits anything.
BUT, more importantly, GORECLAW, Terror of Qal Sisma. Holy crap this is cool but probably still not worth a slot in the deck:
Goreclaw (G3)
Legendary Bear 4/3
Creature spells I cast with power 4 or greater cost (2) less to cast
Whenever Goreclaw attacks, each creature I control with power 4 or greater gets +1/+1 and gains trample until end of turn.
So, it hits itself with the buff. The cost reduction and buff hit things like Temur Sabertooth, Combat Celebrant, Urabrask, Maelstrom Wanderer, Purphoros, and Xenagos. The buff also hits Animar itself when its power is 4 or greater, and things like Forgotten Ancient, Champion of Lamb, (whatever else increases in size).

half the creatures is morph tricks (yes paying for their morph cost)
the other half is the usuall stuff you see in animar decks (a whole lot of fattys and ramp)
